Bastardo certainly looked good last night, you can tell he was amped up. His fastball was 3 or 4mph higher than it was in AAA. Although, I'm not sure why the Padres put Peavy out there last night if he is coming off a leg injury and has an upper respiratory infection. Glad we were able to take advantage.

Ibanez is an absolute beast. No other way to describe it. I hope he gets the starting position on the All-Star team that he deserves.

JC is back tonight!!! Goodbye Trashner!!

Hopefully Bastardo is the real deal, however, I don't like having 4 lefties in our rotation. Still think we need to make a move.

I believe that the Phils ran a trip to Petco Park for this series with hotel, airfare, and tickets all included plus some lunch or dinner opportunities. So the large amount of Phils fans in attendance hasn't been a surprise to me... especially as WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!

Overall the pitching has really stabilized...but Lidge is still scary

Should have been out of the inning last night but Feliz booted a routine grounder

I got lost when the pit was deleted. but I made my way home! :)

he definitely is holding them back. if Rollins was playing half decent, this team would be on another planet. I heard some crazy stat on ESPN last night... like the Phils are 22-? when Rollins scores a run, and 8-? when he doesn't. I don't think that's overstated, he really does jump start the offense.

it's hard to come down on Feliz for an error... dudes a vacum at third.

Best game of Citi Field's short history. You have to admit, it was a great game..after Rollins hit that homer I had absolutely no confidence that my sorry team would battle back, but battle back they sure did....could be a quick game tonight as Pelfrey has been awful lately and Hamels terrific..Let's go Mets!

You guys want to talk about fucking frustration? 16 runners on base, bases loaded basically every fucking inning, Beltran dropping a ball that hit his fucking glove, Wright making an error which led to the tie and ultimately gave you the game. Instead of looking for a sweep tomorrow, I'll be on suicide watch ;) ..

Hypothetical :?: Madson goes 6/6 on saves and looks great...what do we do with Lidge ?

1,2,3 inning for him...haven't seen a save like that in awhile !

If Madson goes 6/6 with saves, I really think you got to keep him as your closer. Easier said than done, but I think its the right move. Use Lidge in the 8th?

And, I must say that avatar is creepy, but at least its not Andy Musser or Kent Tekulve :D

Lidge is the closer when he comes back no matter what Madson does... now if Lidge falters you can move him and replace with Madson but you have to give Lidge the opportunity with all the money you are paying.... also heard an interesting tidbit about Madson possibly being trade bait if he performs well in the closer role... but I wouldn't want to mess with the 7th, 8th, 9th setup the Phils have when Lidge is on.

Well, it wouldn't be that surprising if Madson continues his hot streak. He's only giving up runs once in his last 24 appearances and that one time was a game he shouldn't have even appeared in. (Why Manuel brought him in to pitch in an 8-2 game in Game 1 of a doubleheader is beyond me, but that's for discussion another day.)

The thing is Lidge is not very tough mentally. The reason the Phils got him so cheap from the Astros is not that Wade is an idiot though that is debatable. It's that he was basically jerked around by the Houston manager in and out of the closer role and the fans turned on him and ran him out of town. Now if Houston fans can get to Lidge, I can only imagine how he would react to coming back to the closer role in Philly and blowing a couple of games at home after Madson does well. For his sake, I hope he gets healthy and pitches well the rest of the year. If not, the Phils would have 2 years and 24.5 million guaranteed to him the next couple years and would have trouble finding someone to take that much salary off their hands.

Hey, I just wanna know what would be a safe enough distance to keep my future children away from him.

And you put Lidge right back in for the 9th. He'll be fine. But I'll tell you this much - LOCK UP Madson. When Lidge's contracts up - or look to maybe make a deal next year - Mad Dog becomes your go-to.

ALSO, who's with me on coming up with a t-shirt for Madson that incorporates the MD 20/20 bottle? That would be sweet.

Madson's locked up for the next two years through 2011 for $4.5 mil a season. It will be harder to lock him up long term without becoming a free agent as his agent is Boras.

Like I said before, not a lot of teams would trade for Lidge as he is owed $23.5 mil the next two seasons through 2011.

Hypothetical :?: Madson goes 6/6 on saves and looks great...what do we do with Lidge ?

1,2,3 inning for him...haven't seen a save like that in awhile !

Don't be jealous just because Wheels hasn't asked for your underwear yet :P :o :x

Oh, I thought they only got a deal done for one year for Madson. That's cool then. And I thought Lidge's 3 years extension was retroactive and that next year would have been his final year. Either way, this isn't a bad predicament to be in.
