Alright people....I am joining you all. I ran out of cigarettes on Friday night and haven't picked up one since. I've been to the store numerous times since then and passed on the chance to purchase them. The hardest part for me has been getting through work without smoking. I still go on my breaks and stuff, I just don't have the urge to light one up. I usually only smoked on my way to and from work, then my breaks/lunch at work, then Friday's at my bowling league and hanging out shooting pool afterwards. I think when I go back there, that will be my biggest test. After I leave work, I didn't smoke unless I was over my girlfriends. I wouldn't smoke in my house, but she smokes and smokes in her place. She has been good, not like asking me if I want one or like giving me one.... I do seem to notice the smell more now than usual, kinda makes me nauseous and wonder why the heck I smoked in the first place. I started smoking back like senior year of high school, through college then quit for about a year or so, then started back up and have been smoking since I was like 23-24ish....I'm 36 now. Hopefully this time it's for good.

Wow I am glad I came over here.
NO time like the present!!! Yeah, the smell is nauseating! I had to cut out a few things to get me going but I was able to get my life back to normal once I was full committed for like a month. As a matter of fact, tonight I am going to a cigar bar and I am not worried at all.
Congratulations to you and I hope you can keep it up
BTW 107 DAYS!!!! How did I not comment on my 100th day :(
I really hope alot of people will be here to continue posting updates on your quitting those Cancer Sticks... Well now that the board business is over with, we can continue with the real buisness at hand...That would be saving your lives...
I know that everyone quit at different times and that's fine...I'd just like to know how everyone is feeling and how your all dealing with everything... It's those first few weeks that are probably the hardest, your just so used to having that cigarette in your hand
I'm gonna check in everyday and I'll be here for support. If for some reason I'm not here, just pm me I just want to wish you all luck, and keep strong because this is for you and your future.
Hope everyone else is doing well! Let's hear some updates!
To everyone who is still quit - keep it up! we can do this!
To those who haven't quit yet - there's no better time than now to start quitting!
Hell YEAH!!! Rhino Music Man, good job!! How do you feel? Do you feelk great
Onto my 3rd week of not smoking, and feeling like ive been reborn...healthier attitude to everything, I think im sleeping better...and I reckon I look better too
I know my hubby had about a week of bad sleep at the start, he kept waking up at night and I reckon it was from the cravings...anyone else had this trouble?
Anyway, hows we all going?
Congrats to all! We rock!

I'm a non smoker, but in the In the spirit of quitting...
I'm attempting to give up gambling. I've been spending waaaay too much time and money at the casino lately. The problem is, i really enjoy it. But i'm finding myself ditching uni so I can go. And when i'm at uni i'm thinking about going and playing black jack. And once I get the thought, that's it, i just gotta do it. It's progressed from a healthy once in a time hobby, to an addiction.
So even though this is a non smoking thread, i'm hoping i can try and beat my addiction here too
So, here is to 3 hours on non gambling..
it's ok when i'm winning... hahaha ... oddly enough
Hey hun!!!! So glad to see you here! Well, thats okay, this can kinda be a 'quit anything' thread We are all here to make positive changes to our lives and to better our health, so I think we can do this cant we? You'll be well looked after in here!
Well, I havent read all of this thead, but most of it since ive started posting, and I reckon you can apply alot of the advice here to your gambling addiction
The biggest, biggest step to take is acknowledging you have an unhealthy addiction to whatever it is youre trying to quit, so in your case its gambling.
It seems similar to smoking, whereas it pops up into your head and once you have the thought it wont be supressed until you satisfy the urge, so you need to find ways of getting over that hurdle...
So maybe it might be worth your while to read back on this thread and apply some of the strategies to your addiction? And just pretend when someone says "smoking" imagine it as theyre talking about gambling?

This actually should be the all addiction thread I've noticed alot of you have also given up more than cigs. for addiction..Now that's a really hard thing to do..Yay!!!!!!! for that
I could not bring myself to admit it as I started this thread. I did it last week (if you have been wondering why I have not been positing) and could not admit it. Back to a pack a day. I am dispondent.

I know how much this meant to you. 4 1/2 months is amazing and you did it without a slip until now. You must have learnt so much about quitting that when you are ready to do this again you will go into it knowing what you CAN DO!
When you are ready to stop again you know we will all be here cheering from the wings!

Aw mate, you have done such a MASSIVE thing by quitting for so long, you should be proud of yourself to have made it so far...dont beat yourself up about this, we all know how friggen hard it is and theres no way we would not understand...look at me, I quit about three times on this place, and every time I started smoking again, I would feel such dissapointment that i would stay away from this thread...so I kinda know how you feel...
What does your wife think? Was it at the cigar club?
Atleast you know you can do it, and you will be more prepared next time...
Keep your chin up mate

BUT you've shown its possible and the >100 days off would have done the body a lot of good.

If I only smoke during finals and when writing papers (a pack every 2 months or so), does that mean I'm "quitting" in the in between times or that I'm just a non-smoker that has a few on special occasions?

I would say that it means you're an occasional smoker.
I would also say that if you can smoke that infrequently, then you should just not smoke at all.

Justifying harmful behavior? You know better than that.

It's the only outlet I get since I don't drink or do any drugs.

If occasionally smoking was considered against the rules, there would be no more AA.
