Any one else develop asthma after quitting?
I never had problems with it before, and before I quit I went to the Dr. and he gave me a preventative med for it, but it seems that I keep having problems breathing anyway :(

Not asthma, but I the level of intake I thought I would get has not come back.
Maybe it is just the season.. But by this time in the fall I usually have a bronchitis attack (2x a year for 20 + years) and I have not had it (I hope that is permanent).

How long have you been quit for now? The first couple of weeks is hard because your body is detoxing and getting rid of all the chemicals... so you cough up a lot more shit. could it be this? Or, have you changed anything else since you quit - that it could be conincidental.?

It's been about a month and a half now.
I'm not even coughing, my throat just closes up and my chest gets tight...just can't breathe.
But I finally got to see the Dr. and he gave me a puffer thing, so it should be all good now.

That is great!!! I want to wish you luck and don't give up on yourself:), because no one here will..how long were you on the patch before, and when did you pick up, if you don't mind me asking that??
Just try and check in when you can...and that's really good that you posted that, because that just shows yourself and all of us that you truly want to quit..
lol
((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))
I had gone about a month without cigs and without the patch. Picked up like three weeks ago, been smoking about a pack a day since. I've been on the patch before and had a little more success.
Please don't start:( You came on this thread for a reason..what did you use to stop smoking? Call you doctor, maybe you can get something for calming down.. just please don't start again...sometimes just going out for a walk can take the edge off..
Do it as a favor to me...you've been kind and supportive of me, so just do me this big favor:)
I quit by not buying them in 1991 and when I smoked again in the late nineties while I was planning my second wedding, I was told my clothes smelled (fiance told me!!!) That did it.
I cannot tolerate second hand smoke. It seems like the smokers outside of my building at work are happier, they get all those breaks with their friends. Oh yes, they gossip up a storm.

It has been since 11:00 pm on Thanksgiving day, so two full days and then some. Have been chewing nicorette when I get cravings, and drinking lots of water. Still don't feel well, so that has helped with the cravings, too. I didn't even want one when we got in the car to take my mom to the bus station, which is amazing, because my car is my biggest smoke spot! Lots of days, I wouldn't have my first cigarette till I was in my car on the way to work...I always smoked in my car. Now I'm gonna have to Febreeze the heck out of it to get the smell out.
Hubby bought some smoker's candles, and those things are amazing! I can't smell the smoke in the house at all.
"I was born, and I know that I'll die...the in-between is mine."
Wow I should get some of those candles;) I usually buy the vanilla or cinnamon ones...
Yeah the car and after eating were the toughest times not smoking:eek: I would try to have as much as possible went I was out driving, especially to and from work:rolleyes:. That is when I was working..
I think your in really good hands, seems like your hubby is a really great support system for you, and that helps alot:)
((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))
Yeah, the candles are awesome. They are smoke-odor eliminator candles, and you get them in smoke shops. We got the clothesline fresh, and it is a wonderful, clean scent. Hubby is awesome...he is doing everything he can to help and support me in this, as he has in everything I've attempted since we've been together. I am blessed in many ways
"I was born, and I know that I'll die...the in-between is mine."
Your both very lucky to have each other:) He is an awesome person;):)
What are you taking for your cough. You should make sure you don't have some kind of infection or viral sickness:o
lol
The doctor gave me prescription cough medicine, and told me what to take over the counter to work with it. It's just gonna have to work its way through my system.
"I was born, and I know that I'll die...the in-between is mine."
Did they take a throat culture?? Thank God your not smoking right now;):)
Yes. The quickie one said no strep, will know for sure on Monday. That's one of the reasons I decided to go ahead and quit, because it hurt so bad to swallow, I couldn't imagine smoking.
"I was born, and I know that I'll die...the in-between is mine."
Good for you Pinot - well done...and good luck with the finals
Thanks! The bad thing about finals is that there really is no way to study for them except to know EVERYTHING - yikes!! But I am just a few hours away from finishing day 3 smoke-free - woo hoo!!

Sound like you are gonna achieve two positive things in life at the same time. Gonna be tough not smoking while studying but if you can do that.....Id bet your a strong case to stay off them permanently.
Ive had 1 month off study and dont go back till March - love it.

What are you studying? I get a month out of class after finals, but am sure we will have cases to read and casebooks to study for first assignments next semester. We had 180 pages of reading assigned before we ever had our first day of class As for not smoking while studying, I think it will help me focus more on the task at hand if I'm not thinking about that next cigarette - at least that's my hope.

Im doing both my CPA and attempting CFP
The CPA is a post graduate business, finance and accounting course. Only 6 subjects but a lot tougher than university ( or college you call it?!?!?!).
The CFP is taking a little longer and will make me a certified financial planner also but accounting is my base really.

You doing law???
Yes, first year law student. I did the paralegal program before I completely lost my mind and decided I wanted to be an attorney. I will be doing some pro bono tax work this spring - could use some of those CPA courses myself!
"I was born, and I know that I'll die...the in-between is mine."
WOW time flies!! Although I'm sure for you it might not have flown by. But congrats to all of you!
IT IS CRAZY!!!!
Thanks to all of you for making this possible!!!!
Thanks to all the tryers and all the well wishers. I have had a crazy day and wanted to smoke but have not as I fear coming back here and having to tell all of you I have failed. It will always be a struggle, but everyday is a little less.
So thanks for the world wide support. It has not gone unnoticed.

bro, you're doing awesome! Very proud of ya
Aah, fuck it, I’m just gonna go home, turn on the fuckin’ TV...
Watch the nightly news and drink a beer...
Like I could even change the world, yeah right...

So I made it six days before the stress of finals and finances got to me...but I will keep trying!
Ya gotta keep trying. 6 days is a huge accomplishment. I am a guy who went 27 years with the attitiude of I can always try again. You can, you are young and you got support. Don't wait as long as me. My dad died of lung cancer at 47 because he did not care enough. I am 42 and finally woke up. I will never have the lungs of a 20 something and may have pushed it but I finally got it together. Don't let this kind of opportunity pass u by.
I'm a non smoker, but in the In the spirit of quitting...
I'm attempting to give up gambling. I've been spending waaaay too much time and money at the casino lately. The problem is, i really enjoy it. But i'm finding myself ditching uni so I can go. And when i'm at uni i'm thinking about going and playing black jack. And once I get the thought, that's it, i just gotta do it. It's progressed from a healthy once in a time hobby, to an addiction.
So even though this is a non smoking thread, i'm hoping i can try and beat my addiction here too
So, here is to 3 hours on non gambling..
it's ok when i'm winning... hahaha ... oddly enough
