On the Road
I thought it was a pretty damn good adaptation of the book. They really squeezed a lot into 2 hours without drawing any parts out too long. Really strong acting all around I thought.

Beasts of the Southern Wild
And I finally understood the Academy Award nomination for Quvenzhané Wallis (9 years old).
And having been completely underwhelmed by Silver Linings Playbook, yet another example (IMO) of an actress getting overlooked/jobbed at the Academy Awards.
Super flick.
Across the Universe. Forgot how much I enjoyed that movie.

Ace Ventura Pet Detective - it's a classic that will never get old
Same here. They were showing it all weekend on Comedy Central. One day they had Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, followed by the first film, and then the second one again. I got on the internet because I thought maybe Jim Carrey had died or something the way Comedy Central was wearing out Ace Ventura.
I saw both movies in the theater. The second one I actually "saw" on my first date.

Just saw The Butler. Really enjoyed it, amazing acting, very poignant.

Agreed about Gary Oldman, but you can't go wrong with a western written by Nick Cave Guy Pierce was amazing, and so creepy/disturbing. I considered writing him a fan letter.

The Hobbit. I'm a big LOTR fan, but I did not enjoy this flick.
I rented it a few months back. For some reason I wasn't in a big rush to try to see in at the theater. I didn't like The Hobbit either. I fell asleep the first time I tried watching it and just wasn't that interested the second time. The last 30 minutes or so were good though. Not really excited for the next two.

I was disappointed by it too but I expected that when you try and turn a 300 page book into 3 three hour films. I'll probably give the next one a miss.

OK, I'm feeling better about missing it. I'm also a huge LOTR fan but I couldn't see turning the story into 3 films. Nothing I read about it convinced me to see it.

I agree with all this...it was a really good movie I thought. Guy Pierce was super creepy.
There's a cool cover of a Grandaddy song in the middle of the movie too. I've been meaning to find that soundtrack.

toss between those two but the guy who tops this list by a landslide is jim carrey ...

BYO was a pretty faithful adaptation of the book, so it was pretty enjoyable, if a little short.
Super ... Holy crap. That was hysterical ... And a bit scary. That flick certainly took a crazy turn there at the end!
