Watched 2 that I consider classics (have watched them SO many times) on Saturday:
Shawshank (which wasnt on TV/edited version....It is on TV so often that I usually see the edited version so it was nice to watch the real thing)
    &
    O Brother Where Art Thou?
Fuck, I love almost everything about these two movies.

Love Actually. The girlfriend's choice. I had no expectations and it wasn't that bad. Plus, I always like a good ensemble cast. Hans Gruber, Rick from The Walking Dead, the kid from Game of Thrones, smoking hot Kiera Knightly, cameos from Elisha Cuthbert, January Jones, Denise Richards, Billy Bob Thornton, Shannon Elizabeth and Claudia Schaeffer, plus Liam FUCKING Neeson. Yeah, I enjoyed it.

    very good.

So I loved the originals, loved the newer one from a few years ago, was super excited about 'dawn', saw it last night...Yep, 'very good' movie :), Not quite perfect, and some scenes were just very average, but overall quite solid.

can't wait for the 3rd one!!!

    **(((SPOILER (kinda))))**

koba screaming out "HUMAN LIES!!!", brilliant! And Caesar telling Koba that he (koba) is the 'weaker' one (cause he's the one with the gun...what??? Loved that!!)
But seriously? Video Camera works after 10 years? Talk about a great battery!

Tried that on Amazon Prime a few weeks ago and couldn't get through it. Gave up after about 30 minutes. Too bad because I like the cast a lot.

yeah the cast wasn't too bad, actually The Rock and the dude from Monk were probably the best. Oh well, saw it on netflix.

Earlier today saw Earth To Echo

It was pretty good. Kinda predictable, some cool parts though. Most of the characters were likeable except one i didn't care for, Munch. One part i didn't care is for that hand held camera shakiness. Didn't bother me at first but towards the end felt nauseous and sweaty.

Saw Earth to Echo during the July 4th monsoon, it was my kid's choice. And as soon as it started and I saw the stupid Blair Witch/Cloverfield hand held camera technique was used I wanted to leave. Movie wasn't bad, but I hate that method of filming. Distracting and annoying.

Just saw "Life Itself", the Roger Ebert documentary. It's pretty good but Steve James' editing style meandered a bit and kept taking the viewer back to the same spots too often. Really good stuff with Gene Siskel though.

Great, weirdly hopeful movie, but I also found it really depressing. I'm glad I watched it, but felt kind of shitty after, lol.

Holy childhood flashback batman! What's next? The cat from outer space?

On my long flight home I watched 3 movies in their entirety.

    image
Which was a lot better than I expected.

    image
Which was funny but a much darker comedy than I expected. Visually very good, as I expected.

    and finally
    image
Which I'd never heard of yet which was my favorite of the three. Very very funny. Gleeson plays a great anti-hero type of character. Loved it.

'Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark' - yep really!

Even worse than you would expect, although it was mildly entertaining watching them run around trying to evacuate Sydney with most of the footage clearly shot in the US (left-hand drive cars, US plates, signs and landmarks etc). I'll never take a 2 hour flight to Auckland again - I'll just jump in a mini shark submarine and be there in 3 minutes!
