ha ha yea. i just got some pizza and it took me 1 hour to eat 2 slices. Lately food is really unappealing. I wish you could just take a pill and move on.

    Boooooooo for food pills!
  • I think I figured out why it doesn't excite me. 2 reasons: 1) food is so abundant in our culture that you can pretty much get whatever you want whenever you want and 2) it's very fleeting. you spend all this time anticipating this great meal, and then it's only on your lips for a few moments and it's over (except for you know, any fat you may accumulate from it :)). in that respect it's kind of depressing.

no yay for food pills. id drink my food if i could. thats always easier. :)

well do you take a shower first before the bath so at least you're clean to begin with?

definitely. and it's a sensual thing too in the true definition of the word...going to a great restaurant is an experience for all the senses. to me the visuals plays into it as much as the taste.

one of my all time fave places that i reserve for special occasions is this morrocan joint in SF. looks like a tent inside, big pillows on the floor, gorgeous fabrics, brass tables and they have belly dancers on saturday nights when not just playing cool middle eastern music. love it! :)

even something as simple as a fixing a pot of soup or cooking a piece
of chicken can be very satisfying. i guess i'm weird.

and yeah...you definitely eat with your eyes first and foremost.

and i don't care if you order a grilled cheese sandwich in a restaurant,
its just tastes better if someone else fixes it.

    damn....i'm hungry haha
    Nice shirt.

im sort of in the middle i guess. i love the whole dining out experience and i do have restaurants i adore.. but on a regular night if left up to my own devices i would probably throw popcorn in the microwave around 10. before i moved in with my boyfriend i pretty much never ate dinner... it wouldnt even occur to me.. and it was because i didnt crave anything.. i would walk by 12 different restaurants and whole foods and come out wtih nothing cause i didnt like any of it.

but i could drown in a vat of dumplings too..

It is something I really cannot live without. Me without cooking, going out, sharing a meal with someone...it's like a fish out of water, Laurel without Hardy..pointless to me.
This past week I made the most AWESOME chicken enchiladas, butternut squash risotto and homemade mac and chees (with homemade white sauce)
    It is heaven to me.
And so is parking myself at the sushi bar. :)

haha no kidding, and i just had lunch!

and that's true, just having someone else doing it is cool...especially if it's some elaborate thing i can't be arsed to do at home lol

the social aspect is nice as well, sharing with others, part of one's culture too. there are certain dishes that trigger memories from my childhood, or ones that send me back to a place/time.

there's this corn soup my mom makes that i adore, now that she was diagnosed with the heart problem, i'm gonna figure out a way to make a low sodium nonfat version for her :)

Maybe he just had high metabolism....

Maybe Albert wouldn't have been so fat had he had a dislike of eating. :p

  • I could stand to get a little less excited about it. ;)

Really, though...to me, food is one of the pleasures of life. To not get excited about it is a very foreign concept to me!

True. But it wouldn't have been much of a show if it was called Average Albert, not to mention how pathetic his "Hey Hey Hey" would sound! :D

heaven to me is having someone compliment my cooking.
    it makes it all worthwhile.

i do get tired of my own cooking though,
i'm always up for something new and different.

yeah....i simply can't imagine not cooking. its just a necessary part of
life that you can chose to be mediocre at or, like anything else, get good at.

    i enjoy the challenge.

    i'm making homemade noodles tomorrow....and i can't wait.
    Nice shirt.

now that sounds awesome (although im not a huge risotto fan)
I trust that enchilada sauce was made from scratch?

Um, yeah, it was from scratch...:o
It never occured to me. I should try that.

Oh risotto, how I love you.
And this one was particularly delicious. I prefer to make it myself to ordering it in a restaraunt as you never know if the waiter will let it sit around. Ick. Remember on Top Chef when that dude insisted he put cream into his risotto all the time???? Ick x 2

I love cooking...I make dinner for me and the girlfriend a few times a week....my latest creation was chicken curry stew.

I have also perfected turkey chili, as well as different types of pasta sauce. During Channukah, I made potato pankcakes.

In terms of dining out, it is pretty much the backbone of socializing around the world......good food, some wine, gossiping, then cheating everyone else when I figure out who owes what (since I am a CPA, people always expect me to do the math!)
