Ok, I've never really tried dieting or anything like that... but the only time I find I lose weight is by keeping myself busy. Usually when I'm not trying but my lifestyle is just pretty quickThe Astoria??? Orgazmic!

absolutely, a food diary IS an excellent tool! the one and only time i ever followed a traditional diet, i kept a food diary. i didn't keep track of calories, but carbs...but more importantyl, just keeping track of the food you consume, how much, what exactly, etc...is truly helpful/illuminating. and it worked wonderfully well! if only i didn't go back to my wicked ways.....:p
anyhoo, i don't do the diary thing anymore...but it DID, and still does, influence me, in that i am sooo much more aware of what and how much i eat, much more mindful of what i intake. sure some days, or just some meals...i say fuck it....but more often than not it helps me stay focused on eating healthfully. nowadays, i record my weight and gain/loss fluctuations daily, and once a week tally em up. it's enought to keep me focused on my eating/general health...and my goals. the food diary eventually just got to be too 'much' but recording my weight has been good, perhaps not as disciplined, but i think more livable long-term. and yea, down 5.5 pounds thus far this month.
Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...

I don't count calories. This is a "food anthropologist" log. It is more about behavior and hunger rather than losing weight, etc. The nutritionist I went to had me fill them out. Basically you log the time, what you ate, what you were doing while you ate it, and why you ate it. Then the most important part is that you rate your hunger on a scale of 0 to 10 before and after each eating. 0 is like you are so hungry you will die. 10 is so full you will explode and die. The goal is to be around 5, which is neutral. So before you eat you should be a 3-4 and after you should be a 6-7. And if it's been 4 hours and you haven't eaten you should. The "doing" part is important to make sure you are eating mindfully- i.e. not watching TV or working but rather concentrating on eating.0 -
wow... honestly I can't imagine how I could lose weight unless it was somehow fun. I'm completely disorganised so to have to note all that stuff, I wouldn't even last a day.The Astoria??? Orgazmic!

This is very good and specific advice, thank you (and your nutritionist)... and the will to show I will always be better than before.0 -

Saturnal wrote:Yea that is also very helpful I'm sure. Everyone will find something different to work for them. For me, I basically eat the same set of meals for each type of day I go through (lifting day, non-lifting day, and refeed day). It's extremely mechanical, but in my case, it works. Of course, I have an occasional day where I go out and eat different stuff, but that's not planned or anything.
right it's like you eat a certain way unless there's some reason not to. I've always been like that. problem was that I got a bit away from it in school- no schedule, late nights working, and a boyfriend who was used to always eating out.0 -

no that's cool... it's good that you think it's fun. Like I said I'm completely disorganised so anything that involves being organised just really isn't enjoyable for me
so I've different ways of going about things... but definitely if it's fun for you that makes it all the better

I didn't read this whole thread, but I think you really really need some help. Counseling, psychiatry, something. I'm going on my second semester in Psych and you def. need some help. It's not a bad thing, but get it and get it now.Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one.

Thats a little harsh. A lot of women have body issues. GTD, is very smart, I think she was venting to us, sometimes this can be an outlet..0 -

eh, I've known for a long time that you have needed help. Sure, come and vent here to a certain point, but there has got to be a time where a message board just isn't enough for you to get the help you need. My taking psych classes just opens my eyes to a LOT of different things.
Also, last time I checked, I'm not a "kid". Unless 28 is the new 18.Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one.
