doesnt get much better than this!

    Congrats UCLA fans.

Your QB looks to have grown up real quick today. Neuheisel never should've been fired for betting in an NCAA bracket pool.

EDIT: I hate short kickoffs, dumbest play in football.

Why the fuck are coaches afraid of kickoffs being run back. They'd rather give teams an extra 35 yards?

It's like not fouling a guy in basketball when you're only ahead by 3.

  • Great game. UCLA really fought hard. Can't believe the contrast of their QB from the 1st and 2nd half. I agree about that pooch kick, sooo dumb. Might as well kick it out of bounds, Tenn. would've had worse field position. Looks like slick Rick will be a good fit in LA.

Tressel is no saint either, pal. I feel terrible for Beanie Wells, sucks working that hard and being poised to have a break-out year and have this happen. Foot injuries seem to have a lingering effect and can take a while to fully heal, so even if he can play, he might not be 100%. But as for O-State, I have no sympathy for that program. If anything, you should want other Big 10 teams to win non-conference games so the conference looks better b/c we all know your BCS showings haven't helped.

i wont argue that the big ten isnt weak. it is. that isn't ohio state's fault. there's plenty of good discussion about their bcs showings lately in this very thread. last year they shouldn't have been there, period. it was a rebuilding year and they only slid in because the bcs is fucked, the big ten sucked, and nobody else was winning consistently. it was a joke. the year before they did deserve to be there. anyone who saw them play that season knows that the team that showed up against florida was not the team that had played all season. nonetheless, it's embarrassing how they fare against the sec. that day florida came hungry, and ohio state came like they shouldn't even have to play. they paid for it in a big way.

as to tressel, he doesn't compare to rich rodriguez. that guy's scum. he bends wvu backwards to get them to give him a huge big money contract. then he bails a month later to jump to another team and doesn't want to pay the penalty. he's a douchebag of the highest order. tressel doesn't compare. i've only heard one guy complain about tressel and he had no evidence other than his brother's friend's cousin's uncle's nephew who knew a guy that saw tressel mayb do something shady. the guy's done a good job of trying to clean up a program with some checkered characters. rodriguez blows. much as it hurts to compliment lsu after last january, at least les miles walked his talk when he said he was keeping his promise and wouldn't go to michigan... and that was his dream job!
    and like that... he's gone.

Apart from any possible Tebow hating, I think Urban Meyer might take it easy on Tebow this year. For Tebow to only go 9 for 13 against Hawaii and they still got routed is proof that UF's offense is more than just Tebow this year, which will affect Tebow's stats greatly compared to last year.

And if Tebow can stay healthy for the UGa game, the Bull(shit)dogs are in for a hurtin. The only reason they lost last year is because Tebow hurt his throwing shoulder the previous week against Kentucky. That game may be the best game of the year (a close 2nd to USC - OSU)

Non throwing shoulder. It effected his running more than his throwing and he's by far best on the run at this point. He's just not very good coming from behind and the weakest point of his game is throwing accurately deep. (see Michigan loss) They lost because thier defense was young and overmatched and they got blown off the ball on offense and defense. Tebow was contained and they kept Percy Harvin relatively contained. This year they have Chris Rainey so perhaps they will have a running game not coming from just the QB and WR's.

Georgia just loss Jeff Owens, so at this point Florida and Georgia are seeing how many people they can lose for the season.

Tennessee could easily steal the East. I'd say South Carolina but I just have a feeling thier QB will get arrested for some reason... There are a lot of loseable games to play for both teams before November.

I completely agree with your first paragraph. But because of the fact the Big Ten is so weak, I feel that any fan of a Big Ten team should root for the conference in these early, non-conf. games. Maybe not root, but atleast not want them to lose. I mean, it seems likely that the BCS title game will involve 1-loss teams again with the way the top 6 teams schedules play out, and if O-State loses to USC in 2 weeks(something I desperately don't want to happen), the only win they'll have to hang their hat on is at Wisconsin. Maybe Illinois, but I don't think that is too impressive.

For the record, I'm not some Michigan blowhard. I went to school and played football outside the Big Ten, but from where I live and the people I know, I follow and support this conference greatly. So with that said, I wasn't comparing Tressel to Rodriguez in any way. Their recent success is incomparable. I wouldn't say his record is completely spotless though. Between Clarett and Troy Smith, there was some shady shit going down. I'll give him credit for keeping his name clear though. As for Rodriguez, I just feel this guy gets a worse rap than he should. How do you know he bent wvu backwards? From your brother's friends cousins uncle or some Mountaineer blog? That state acted as classless as I've ever seen. As if they're the only school to ever lose a coach. They tried to completely take the guy down. It was as if their first high school girlfriend dumped them before sophomore year so they spent the summer trying to spread rumors about it. If you were offered a larger salary to do the same job at a more prestigious place, you wouldn't take it? The whole refusing-to-pay-the-buy-out was lame. Don't feel that warrants him the title of a douchebag, especially just b/c he coaches at your rival school. Look, major college coaching has gotten completely out of hand, with these guys making millions to coach amateur athletes in the most competitive spectrum. Everybody seems exposed, but nobody really knows what goes on behind the scenes except for those actually behind it.

If it's the qb that has had problems with getting in trouble in the past then it will be ok as he's our third-stringer ;)

once they dumped Beecher they looked Scary. Smelly should be #1.

You have to be happy with Ellis Johnson right now too.

Yeah, Smelley's been named the starter. He hasn't had any disciplinary problems and he's a fairly smart kid, so I think he'll stay out of trouble. With Beecher a little banged up Garcia's been named the backup, so he might be down at the bars looking for trouble with that announcement......

So far I'm very happy with Ellis Johnson. It seems that he's made the defense man up and get tough. It will be interesting to see how they fare against a complete offensive team though.

you can't pull troy smith as an example of tressel being sketchy. if anything, it's a credit to how classy he is that troy smith WAS headed for trouble and tressel managed to turn him around into a truly classy college player and heisman winner. clarrett... that guy was a train wreck and would have been no matter where he played. tressel could have looked the other way and just taken his shit because he was good. but he benched someone who had the potential to be one of the best running backs in school history because of his stunts. that would not happen at a lot of other schools.

i'm not rooting against michigan, just rich rodriguez. his contract negotiation with wvu were publicly documented. they finally ponied up to offer the package he wanted, and they put in a clause to ensure that he didn't bail on them after he signed the deal. he did exactly that, and then bitched about them wanting him to honor the contract he'd dragged them over coals to get. les miles was a michigan man through and through, but he still had the class to say "i'm not bailing on lsu" and stick to it. rodriguez paid that lip service but didn't deliver. sure, he's entitled to take the better job, but he acted like a child in doing it. what was his contract at michigan? he can't handle compensating wvu for wasting their time in negotiations that they could have better spent looking for someone else? it's about rich rodriguez, not about hating on michigan. the only big ten team i truly hate and root against is purdue and that's because my whore of an ex goes there ;)

USC leaps over Georgia, Ohio State into No. 1 spot

NEW YORK -- Southern California has jumped two spots to No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll, rewarded by voters for opening the season with a dominant performance on the road against a BCS conference opponent.

Georgia and Ohio State, the preseason Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, started their seasons with glorified scrimmages at home against FCS (formerly I-AA) teams.

USC's 52-7 victory Saturday at Virginia helped the Trojans vault past the Bulldogs and Buckeyes from No. 3 in the preseason. Georgia fell to No. 2 and Ohio State to No. 3.

The voting was close. USC received 21 first-place votes and 1,539 points from the 65-member media panel. Georgia had 20 first-place votes and 1,506 points. Ohio State got 15 first-place votes and 1,497 points.

Haha, yea that is probably the best reason to root against a school.

I definitely see your point and completely agree he handled it all poorly. I guess I just feel he gets shit on a lot more than other coaches that have pulled the same shit, like Petrino and Saban. I mean, Petrino inked a 10-year deal and bolted after the first year. And Louisville, a program that at the time had just won a BCS bowl game and was comparable to WVU, didn't call for his head the same way that people have with Rodriguez. Rich Rod's 10-year old niece received death threats at school, I mean, that's fuckin insane. And again, there's obviously shit we don't know about that went down between Rodriguez and WVU. There were signs he wanted out before last December, like when he almost went to Alabama or the story of his agent threatening to take his client to Florida St. or Texas A&m b/c WVU promised renovations and changes within the athletic department, both of which never occurred. And Rodriguez is paying $1.5 million of the that buyout clause on his own, usually the school takes care of the whole thing. $4 million is the highest buyout clause I have ever seen. If you hate Rodriguez for his actions, then there are plenty of other coaches you must hate as well.

And in the Les Miles case, I have close ties to Michigan's athletic department and was told that he had accepted the offer to be the next head coach. He was going to announce it after the SEC championship game. He and his wife were seen around Ann Arbor house shopping. But word got out, thanks to Herbstreit(hmmmm...), and Miles was forced to call a news conference to deny the report to keep his team focused. A combination of his team winning the game, Mizzou and WVU losing (to vault LSU into the title game) and LSU AD's offering up a huge contract extension within the following days kept Miles in Baton Rouge. The man stuck to his public words and looks like he made the right choice after all.

i wasn't as familiar with petrino and saban. guess i followed rodriguez more closely because he's going to our biggest rival. just seemed kind of sketchy. given this information, i wish les miles had taken the michigan job. maybe if word hadn't gotten out, no press conference was called, and there was nothing but rumors and uncertainty to distract the hell out of lsu, ohio state might have fared better ;)

in any case, i think rodriguez is going to have some tough years ahead. michigan was not recruiting for a spread offense, and no matter how much athletic talent they've got, it's going to be a switch that takes time.

now, back to me hating on the worthless boilermakers. i cannot wait to see them humiliated in the horseshoe.
