wtf was up with that? I remember Spurrier throwing his visor and yanking guys like Danny Wuerffel and Rex Grossman if they threw one pick and the Gators were up by 30. He's definitely mellowed a lot since his humbling NFL experience, plus he's got limited talent up here I suppose.

Chris Smelley ran things really well, although the Wolfpack D was probably exhausted by then. Hopefully he gets the start against Vandy.

Being a Gator fan at heart, though graduated from USC...

Tim Tebow's 2nd straight Heisman campaign starts tomorrow against Hawaii...
It's not so much that he's mellowed (maybe he has, maybe he hasn't), I think it's more that he feels we're really limited at qb. And, I think he's right that we are limited there. He wanted to leave Beecher in the game to avoid any controversies because that's happened the past two years and he's tired of it. When Beecher got that hard hit to his head though, Beecher had to come out of the game. If he didn't get hurt I think he would have played the whole game. Going into the season I thought Smelley should have been the starter, and after Thursday there's no doubt in my mind about that.

Sad to say though that the best qb is probably third stringer Steven Garcia. Physically, athletically, and talent-wise Garcia is superior to Beecher and Smelley. Garcia's just not there mentally, and it's becoming a question if he will ever be ready.

Yeah but there's a difference in creating controversies and doing what's right for the game situation. NC State wasn't a real threat all night, but the game could still be considered "close" by the time he took the shot to the head. Don't you think if its a close game against somebody like UGA, he makes the change before the 4th INT happens? It is a question of being limited at QB but also this is definitely not the Spurrier of old.

Totally agree with you about Garcia. As highly touted as Smelley was, Garcia is probably the superior athlete at the position. Hopefully the bullshit is behind him, we'll see him get a few snaps this year. I think if he's ever able to "get there mentally" the future looks pretty bright for USC

Utah is a better team. I'm not surprised about that at all really.

I was at the WVU game yesterday and everytime the Michigan-Utah score was shown (with Utah ahead), the crowd cheered.

In MichRod's defense, he had 11 starting positions still open going into this week, and has no one to run the type of offense that he runs. It's a totally different gig for Michigan now. Their run of bowl games is likely to end this year.

In a bigger game or a game where the outcome is in doubt, sure he'd yank Beecher out after the 2nd pick. He wanted (and stated as much) that because of Beecher's lack of experience that he wanted to give him every chance to succeed and get rid of the opening game jitters. This was Beecher's first ever start and only the 2nd game where he got any meaningful playing time, so he was letting him play through it. Personally, I'm a Chris Smelley fan so I was glad when he got in the game, but with the way the defense was playing I wouldn't have had an issue with Beecher playing out the rest of the game. While Smelley may start this week, I think that we haven't seen the last of Beecher -- he'll get another chance and I bet he'll be ready after last Thursday's disappointing performance.

I'm not so sure about that. Utah is one of the best non-BCS conference teams out there, better than some Big 10 schools. I agree that it's gonna be a season long struggle for them, but they'll get better with the system as the season goes on. All they need is 6 wins for a bowl game.

I honestly think it goes back to the O-line, which has been Spurrier's #1 problem since he got to USC. Smelley did look great but go back and look at the films and you'll see he had a lot more time to scan the defense and make the throw. I attribute that to the defense of NC State probably being exhausted by then. Plus Mike Davis had a lot of room to run through and that will open up the passing game every time. Tommy didn't really have that kinda time, but when he did it still wasn't productive. He missed wide open guys, and underthrew a few balls that got picked. Moe Brown needs to learn to get in there and play defense though when its obvious the DB has a better shot at it. I think 3 of Beecher's INTs were when he was throwing in his direction, and Brown didn't do much to break it up. Maybe we can attribute it to first start jitters. Its just a good thing NC State couldn't do shit offensively all night.

As much as I would love to see Tebow get another Heisman, I don't see the Heisman voters giving it to him, unless of course Florida seems poised to win the national title. Don't get me wrong, I bleed orange and blue, but I get the feeling there will be some Tebow hating this year.... just jealousy, I guess

Did you hear that Superman wears Tim Tebow pajamas?

i dunno, im a huge buckeye fan and if anyone has a hate on for florida, it's the buckeyes. but even with that said, i dont know about much tebow backlash. the guy's a beast. and he's been turning heads for 2 seasons now (even when he was leak's backup). if he puts up the kind of numbers he did last season, i dont know who can contest him getting it.

my hope was for a chris wells heisman, but god only knows if and when he'll play again. i wanted to puke when i saw him go down. teddy ginn goes out on the first play in the national championship while celebrating, this season wells bites it for no apparent reason against a shit team and has to leave the game. if he's not 100% by usc in 2 weeks, my beloved buckeyes are going to have their asses handed to them. pryor looked good, but he's nowhere near ready to carry the team on the road in pasadena :(

rich rodriguez is a douchebag and watching michigan drop their second straight home opener made me feel a little better about wells going down.
    and like that... he's gone.

Apart from any possible Tebow hating, I think Urban Meyer might take it easy on Tebow this year. For Tebow to only go 9 for 13 against Hawaii and they still got routed is proof that UF's offense is more than just Tebow this year, which will affect Tebow's stats greatly compared to last year.

And if Tebow can stay healthy for the UGa game, the Bull(shit)dogs are in for a hurtin. The only reason they lost last year is because Tebow hurt his throwing shoulder the previous week against Kentucky. That game may be the best game of the year (a close 2nd to USC - OSU)

that georgia-florida game is going to be pretty sweet. florida put a hurt on hawaii.

if beanie wells can't play, usc-osu is going to be pretty one-sided i think. he's the heart of the buckeye offense. i have no faith in boeckman.
