relax bro. if it werent for us, this thread would be dead already. nobody in the North East cares about college football because all of our teams suck.
besides, like all pit discussions, someone gets bored, or the work day ends, and our "takeover" of your thread dies.
I cannot wait for college football season to start. I'm a Gator fan, and I'll be in Gainesville to see Tim Tebow and company completely destroy the Miami Hurricanes. And as long as UF beats Auburn and Georgia this year, Ill be happy..
ps.... Ohio State sucks ... play some decent out of conference games and maybe winning the Big 10 title will mean something. Or maybe the Buckeyes just like having their ass handed to them by a far superior SEC team. I can't wait to see USC beat you guys.

it appears to me that Ohio State has had a tougher OOC schedule than Florida has had every year since 2000- with the only exception being 2007. So, would it suit you that Ohio State leaves the Big Ten to make you, and the rest of the SEC happy? I guess I'm for that- forget their history, and forget the geography of where the conferences sit- let's put Ohio State in the SEC.
Or no wait, better idea- how about Ohio State starts recruiting for the other Big Ten schools so SEC fans can be happy Ohio State plays someone. That's a great idea, let's send our people in and spend time building up their programs with money and 4-5 star recruits. This way, we can actually play someone the SEC fans will approve of.
Also, if the Big 10 sucks so bad, like you say, how can you explain out #4 team beating your beloved Gators who were the SEC #3 last year.
Let's Take a Look Deeper...
The Capitol One Bowl has been won by the Big 10 the last 5 years- even though they were faced against a better SEC team. That is, within the conference standings, the Big 10 team was the Big 10 #3, facing the SEC #2.
2004 January 1, 2005 Iowa 30 LSU 25
2005 January 2, 2006 Wisconsin 24 Auburn 10
2006 January 1, 2007 Wisconsin 17 Arkansas 14
2007 January 1, 2008 Michigan 41 Florida 35
How about the Outback Bowl, where the same phenomenon happens- in this case, the Big Ten #4 faces the SEC #3
2002 January 1, 2003 Michigan 38 Florida 30
2003 January 1, 2004 Iowa 37 Florida 17
2004 January 1, 2005 Georgia 24 Wisconsin 21
2005 January 2, 2006 Florida 31 Iowa 24
2006 January 1, 2007 Penn State 20 Tennessee 10
2007 January 1, 2008 Tennessee 21 Wisconsin 17
If the SEC were so powerful, wouldn't they dominate these games against lesser (and I mean that in terms of conference standings) Big 10 opponents.
The fact is, yes Ohio St. has lost 4 games against the SEC the last decade- 2 of them being for National titles, but SEC fans are too busy beating their chests to figure out that the SEC isn't so great like they think. If their talking were truth, they would kill the Big 10 in every bowl game- but they don't. SEC fans just need to justify why their teams all lose one or 2 games each year; that upsets them, so they have to knock every other conference for not being as good. I think the SEC is the better conference RIGHT NOW, but if I'm a SEC fan, I don't need to justify why my team is better than a team they don't even play. I would realize that the SEC could just as well go in the crapper in a few years.
Hell, if you want to complain about OOC schedules, have you looked at Oklahoma's schedule the last couple years? Shit, atleast Ohio State plays schools like Texas, USC, Virginia Tech, Cal and Tennessee
Let's all take some time to review and analyze college football before we start running our mouths and look like idiots.
(I'll wait for the:Florida killed Ohio State, argument because I know it's all you got, nobody in SEC country likes to give evidence, they just like to point to the same one thing as truth)
i'm just hoping SU can pull out 4 wins this season.
hoping to be at the penn state game. really want to see joe pa coach in person.
the loud house needs to be a real home field advantage this year in order for that to happen. i hope they do well, but looks like a competitive conference this year. we were picked to be 6th last year and ended up tied for first (and then got thrashed by wvu).
I appreciate the astute response regarding the SEC vs Big10 debate. I might have been a bit hasty in my post, but I (like many, many others) get pretty psyched about the impending college football season, and sometimes team or conference pride gets in the way of logic.
Yes, Florida lost to Michigan in their last bowl game. The only excuse I can come up (which isn't really an excuse, because it is true) is that Florida had a paper thin secondary last season (which may continue this season).

I won't be using the Florida killed Ohio State argument. I'll just say that I think the SEC is way tougher than the Big 10, and I'd like to think that most sportswriters and college football fans share that opinion.

decent out of conference? they play usc the next 2 years. before they, they played texas back to back years. what do you want them to do?
that said, the big 10 is weak these days, no doubt. and the sec is up. osu had no business in the championship last year. i dont know how they made it and they definitely did not deserve it. though i do think it says a lot about the team that their rebuilding season gets them to a national championship. they are going to be legit contenders this season. they do have an embarrassing record against sec teams in general though, for some reason i don't understand. it goes back decades, very weird. the big 10 as a whole does just fine against the sec, as someone else pointed out. what i would like to see is all those hot shot "speedy" sec teams come up to columbus in fucking november and play a game in the snow and sleet and see how damn fast they are in those conditions. they always get to play big 10 teams in temp controlled astro domes or southern sunshine.
but don't gloat too much. florida with a heisman winner got beat handily by a terrible michigan team, one that lost to fucking appalachian state at home!

I don't know if this game should count as an example, even though it was a win for Iowa. We (LSU) had just been told that morning that we were losing our coach to the NFL, and it was on a long wing-and-a-prayer pass with no time left. Looking from a dominating POV, LSU looked really good untill that last pass. It's all good though, because I notice you didn't bring up what happened last time LSU played a Big 10 team.
Sure it's a "rebuilding" year, but Geaux Tigers!
...and also my shout out to the Seminoles, who've I loved since '93 (even though I decided to go to LSU). I blame Scott Bently for my devoted allegience.
we'll see if their rebuilding year gets them to the national title game like the buckeyes' did
and i stand by my contention that the sec would not look anywhere near as impressive if they had to play in the conditions big 10 teams play in. it's easy to look fast when every game is played in beautiful weather. big 10 teams train to be able to keep their blood flowing in sub-freezing temperatures, that's a totally different kind of conditioning. i'd love to see how fast the lsu players are when they're trying to tackle or catch a pass while they can't feel their hands or feet.
Ok on to business, I was just talking about this yesterday with a co-worker, the best way to test who is really better (it will never happen) is take a team and swap it with a similarly rated team from another conference. For example, take Auburn and Wisconsin, swap them from the SEC and Big 10 then see what happens. Do the same with USC and Georgia, then maybe we get an idea of who really is better.
I know it is not even remotely possible, so spare me all the logistical impossibilities. It is like a playoff, or me having sex with Heidi Klum, fun to imagine, but never happening.

That arguement makes no sense. Sure most games the sky might be clear, but that just means there are no clouds shielding us from the 99-105 degree heat! Nothing like sweating out all of your fluids as you walk on the field.
Plus, did you see the National Championship game? It was as neutral a playing field as possible (well, except for the crowd, I'll give you that), and LSU still made 'em look like a mid-level opponant. No excuses, the better team won. I'll show you the trophy that proves it if you like

didn't Ohio State lose 15 starters, and a Heisman QB last year? and are they not still vilified for losing to a LSU team loaded with returning lettermen that was expected to compete for the National Title? So, losing to Iowa should be over looked because they were rebuilding or their coach didn't want to stay there- but Ohio State should be held accountable because they had 6 returning starters. That makes alot of sense to me! Hell a loss to Iowa is bad in it's own self!
SEC fans skew all logic to justify their own views, and tend to over look every fact. SEC is better than the Big Ten right now, but just assuming all of the teams in the SEC are better than the Big Ten teams is just flat out wrong- as witnessed in the Capitol One Bowl and Outback Bowls. I don't know about all the weather conditions and stuff, because I don't buy into the speed thing (I saw Chris Wells outrun every CB and Safety LSU has). I will say though that if it were not for other teams losing (West Virginia,USC) to teams that were terrible, Ohio State wouldn't have ever played in that game.
PLUS! Ohio State gets knocked for Bowl games, How about fucking Oklahoma?! thier first OOC game will be vs. Ohio St. in 2012, other than that they never play ANYONE, and they got crushed by West Virginia (2007), USC(2005) and lost to Boise St.! Their toughest game is 2 games on neutral fields (Big12 Champ, and Texas)

i was AT the national championship game. and yes, ohio state was outclassed. i already said they shouldn't have been there. that was their rebuilding year and they only got to the championship because the bcs system is fucked. i'm not talking about one game, but since you're clinging to that one game how was it a neutral field? ohio state had been training and conditioning for 30 degree weather in columbus all year and then 2 months after the season ended had to go to louisiana (very neutral to play LSU there... right) to play an away game against a home team in their backyard. shit man, at least use the year before when they played florida in the desert, that's a LITTLE better example.
but i'm talking generally. all the bowl games are in southern locales, and the big 10 (ohio state and their curse aside) does just fine against sec teams in those hot climates. but you don't hear about that, ever. all you hear about is how the sec is so fast and the big 10 sucks. the big 10 has proven they can walk into those situations and win. let's see the sec step up north and play in the cold. see how fast they look then.

They don't need to travel anywhere! They are the SEC and we are all lucky they partake in college football! Forget how Georgia has never played a game west of the Mississippi, or how LSU has never stepped foot in the northern United States- the fact remains that without those schools college football would crumble.
The big 10 isn't necessarily slow, they recruit the same areas, but they are a little antique when it comes to offensive systems (same was said and proven about the SEC as well in the 90's) and they aren't quite as prepared physically because thier in league schedules are not as difficult as the SEC. They are mainly just getting crap because they are basically set up to have an easier road to the championship not to mention historical alliances like the absolute ridiculousness that gave us USC vs Illinois and Hawaii vs Georgia in bowl games last season which essentially wasted everyones time as neither of those was close even on paper and all they did was maintain garbage conference alliances. Who cares?
Florida and LSU happened to be better teams than Ohio State both years not that OSU didn't field a very good team that could compete in any league. They just wouldn't walk through the SEC or Big 12 like they do the Big 10 because they have far better players than anyone else except for Michigan. Penn State could be good and they might be this year but they are stuck with an 80 year old coach so good luck recruiting with that. Minnesota should be good tons of alumni but no. Wisconsin has built a very good program but thier state HS football is nowhere close to Ohio; Michigan; Pennsylvania or anywhere in the south. So they will always have up and down years.
Lets say this, Michigan for all thier talent, underachieved mightily under Lloyd Carr period post 1997. They played terrible in big games until last year vs Florida where they exposed the fact that when you Contain Tebow force him to pass and keep the score tight he's not that great of a late game QB. Even I was pulling for Michigan because that's the best game I've seen them play since Desmond Howard was there.
The fact of the matter is that the Big 10 and Pac 10 and even Big East by not having a championship game severely hurts the championship process though they aren't required to have one so hey I'm not complaining, it's just a much easier road than the other conferences have so that's part of what has led to the inequality and most of the hatred other than the basic obvious sports hate. People don't like it because it seems unfair and the results have not been close.
OSU, Michigan, PSU, Wisconsin would all do fine in the SEC and compete well you just wouldn't see them run through undefeated because at the top echelon of CFB everyone is pretty damn close generally one or two exceptional players put teams over the top. The conference as a whole has less depth so it's a relatively easier run to a Big 10 championship when compared to other conferences.
The BCS NCG is not really interested in the best two teams at the end of the year anyway, just 1 vs 2 not that that's ever clear cut either.
I ultimately just wish we could sort out a way to get good bowl matchups.
Last year it was obvious UGA and USC should have played, I could care less if it counted for a championship. I just wanted to see that game. That's what I want to see during the year. Forget Georgia Southern, Ap State, Youngstown State. Give me major conference teams playing eachother in OOC scheduling. Then an early loss big deal by the end of the year we know who the best teams are.
We're seeing more of that with the 12th game (geez if UGA is travelling west you know a movement is going on), but FCS schools should be taken out of schedules entirely, just give them the 600K checks a year and don't waste our time.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I honestly think that the 2006 Ohio State team was a better team than Florida- HOWEVER, they took them lightly and thought that it would be a cakewalk so they didn't focus on winning that game. It's the only way to explain how guys were so out of shape they were throwing up on the sidelines, or how Troy Smith gained 12 pounds in 2 months. They thought getting past Michigan was the only thing they had to worry about, so they wasted 2 months just patting themselves on the back
LSU was better than Ohio State last year no question

i agree with you 100%.
last year's bcs lineup was kind of a joke. illinois was a good team, but they were not in usc's league, period. ohio state was a good team in the making, but they were not a championship team. a playoff would be nice, but it seems it will never happen. the one year it worked out was texas-usc, and even that year ohio state was one of the best teams by the end of the season, just like georgia last year. it would be awesome to see teams like that (late bloomers) get to make a title run.
the pac-10 and big ten, etc are definitely hurt by the lack of a championship. the last 2 years, ohio state had almost 60 days off between end of season and the championship game. that's going so cold it's like playing the first game of the season all over again. those conferences need to scrap some of that bullshit and get with the program.
there is no incentive to play strong out of conference games. esp in the big 10. when you know you have to beat up on teams big in the early season to make up for the fact that you sit on your ass the last 2 weeks of the season, you've got to schedule cupcakes. plus, the way it works now, you can't risk a loss early on because it means you're basically spending the rest of the season apologizing for it and hoping someone else drops a game just to give you a shot at a decent bowl game. it's absurd. give ohio state and others credit... they're trying to up their schedules. but even that is a safe play. if ohio state loses to usc, people will understand they lost to the best. NOBODY wants to play teams like louisville, who are scrappy and have serious upset potential. it's bullshit.

decent out of conference? they play usc the next 2 years. before they, they played texas back to back years. what do you want them to do?
that said, the big 10 is weak these days, no doubt. and the sec is up. osu had no business in the championship last year. i dont know how they made it and they definitely did not deserve it. though i do think it says a lot about the team that their rebuilding season gets them to a national championship. they are going to be legit contenders this season. they do have an embarrassing record against sec teams in general though, for some reason i don't understand. it goes back decades, very weird. the big 10 as a whole does just fine against the sec, as someone else pointed out. what i would like to see is all those hot shot "speedy" sec teams come up to columbus in fucking november and play a game in the snow and sleet and see how damn fast they are in those conditions. they always get to play big 10 teams in temp controlled astro domes or southern sunshine.
but don't gloat too much. florida with a heisman winner got beat handily by a terrible michigan team, one that lost to fucking appalachian state at home!
that photo you posted is funny as shit though

we'll see if their rebuilding year gets them to the national title game like the buckeyes' did
and i stand by my contention that the sec would not look anywhere near as impressive if they had to play in the conditions big 10 teams play in. it's easy to look fast when every game is played in beautiful weather. big 10 teams train to be able to keep their blood flowing in sub-freezing temperatures, that's a totally different kind of conditioning. i'd love to see how fast the lsu players are when they're trying to tackle or catch a pass while they can't feel their hands or feet.

Ohio State's upcoming opponents:
2008-USC
2009-USC
2010-MIAMI (FL)
2011-MIAMI (FL)
2012-OKLAHOMA
2014-OKLAHOMA
2015-CAL
2016-TENNESSEE
2018-TENNESSEE
