everyone wants to make threats on this guys life but we can not even begin to understand how incredibly desensitized these soldiers are... thats what sickens me more than some puppy dying... we ask them not to be traumatized over killing iraqi people and then when something like this happens there are actually people who cant believe it?? as outraged as i am about killing a puppy there are much bigger things at play here...

I think some of you are over reacting, it’s just a dog. What he did WAS wrong and I can’t think of any good reason to do something like that but it was just a dog. there's no reason to kill the guy over it.

That's where you and I (and many others) differ. 'It's just a dog' is like saying 'it's just a baby', 'it's just a Jew', 'it's just a woman', 'it's just a black' and on and on and on and on. Just because you are a member of one special or group shouldn't lead us to devalue that of others, assuming we are enlightened enough to realize that. Most animals (I assume), do not possess that sort of enlightened ability, but that doesn't in anyway mean that they are less of a creature than we are. Because we don't have internal sonar, can't produce honey, don't have wings to fly with, etc etc do not make us less than bats or bees or hummingbirds.

first of all, can you speak for this guy? how do you know he is desensitized? maybe he is just a sick fuck who gets his jollies from killing things and made it the reason he went to war anyways. people that can kill animals is always the gateway to killing humans. and even if he is desensitized, you basically imply that all soldiers are animal-throwing monsters because of war, and this just simply isn't the case. A lot of the Marine community is in an outrage over this because it slaps a horrible label on all of them now. It was not only a horrific, inhumane thing to do, but an irresponsible one to Marines everywhere, and his own family, whose lives have now been threatened because of this callous prick.

hes right tho... it is just a dog... hate to sound egocentric, but what should be discussed is the human aspect of the clip... these soldiers are programmed to devalue life in order to cope with killing... this problem goes far beyond an individual action... this just so happened to be caught on film but how many other similar instances occur everyday?... there is a serious problem with the system and it is a serious problem when we extend the duties of our soldiers beyond what they enlisted for because we have no draft and we refuse to pull out of iraq... when i watch the video i see the death of a human life first and the death of a puppy second... im sad first and angry second...

not speaking for him... just find it interesting that the critique of the video immediately jumps to such a narrow, individualistic, offensive approach when to me, given the context, i see so much more... dont mean to justify his action either... but you can no sooner assume hes a "sick fuck" than i can assume hes an emotionally fragile wreck dealing with some really heavy shit in a less than healthy way

You mean to tell me that if you’re at the edge of a cliff with some one whose holding a puppy in one hand and a baby in the other and tell you to chose one to save you would be torn between the two?

soldiers are not the only one's going through shit, there are a lot of people who got abused and had shit in their lives yet they don't go around taking pleasure in killing someone helpless.

yes... people sexually abused as children are statistically more likely to abuse as adults... not to say they all do... but i think in that scenario we would all show a bit more sympathy for the victim/abuser knowing the backstory... just saying its rash for people to say "this guy should be thrown off a cliff"... we all deal with stress in different ways... should this guy be thrown out of the marines and face other punishment? YES... thrown off a cliff or anything to such an extreme? NO

i understand that saying "no" mightve lost you some credibility as far as your argument is concerned... but honestly?... hard choice?... have some pride in your species... in an extreme like that no one will think less of you for choosing the baby... what if we glued some fur on the baby? would that make your decision easier?

I think the main problem IS having pride in your species. Depending on what you believe, it's all luck of the draw. And humans aren't the best species to put on display for an example in awesomeness.
