Where are you seeing this, I was just on Red Sox website, nothing there about it.

I like Tito, always have, but I know I was among the few who did

I think it's a little weak to use him as the scapegoat.

    yes it is
  • I'm happy to see Francona go, not sure what's going on internally but he's a great manager and I'm glad the Yankees wont have to face him 18-19x a year.
  • fired...

If you had read the article he won't be fired. His contract is up and they are choosing not to pick up his options

Quite the difference. Personally I'd had to see him go, it's not his fault entirely that the Sox had a meltdown.

    apparently, it's this guy's fault ...

Fired and having ownership decide not to pick up your option is essentially the same thing.

ESPN is saying that Francona told the owners he is leaving, not that he was fired.

Thats what the inital reports say and also that it will be a mutual agreement, but this article says its coming from ownership. He saw the writing on the wall and the best way to put it for him is that it was mutual.

Not picking Terry contract is a No Class move, the Red Sox were a running joke until '04, the lack of loyalty is sickening. On the other hand if you pick you Bobby V, you won't miss Terry for long.

Oh and sounds like an awesome clubhouse atmosphere you have there.

So far it's gods fault, national TV's fault and lots of complaining about the bus service to games.

Oh and it sounds like none of them really like each other. I am curious who that applys to.

Any bets on who was drinking in the clubhouse during the games. Lackey has to be #1.

The bad ol' days of 25 players, 25 cabs ... I remember them well.

You know who they need to get the clubhouse back in their happy space?

Not suprising. If his value wasn't so damn low, I wouldn't have been suprised to see them try and move him this year.

 that was my initial feeling too but I gave Francona the benefit of the doubt lol.

On another note, I am heading to Boston this weekend and ready to drink my sorrows away with the baseball fans there (I am a Braves fan- dont ask how being that I am a New Yorker lol).

I'll always like Tito, he kept Manny happy and producing enough to win two rings. But if Francona decides to leave, so be it. Managing the Sox has done to him what the presidency has done to Obama, just worn him the fuck out. Can't blame him if he needs a break.

If this is mgmt's decision, that's too bad, it appears to be a bit short sighted ... but perhaps they are thinking he's just not as in to it as he was, or, we just don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

Fair enough, and no doubt you guys like him, 2 rings after a lengthy drought to say the least. Definitely understandable if it's his decision and I am sure it's a pain in the ass (although incredibly fun) job, especially if players were complaining about things like the bus.

Very true and I definitely agree. I don't think it would be a great idea, but true that no one knows whats going on.

I keep hearing all this shit from the media, students, in-laws, etc. about Pink Hat Fans right now. Do you guys really want them to go away? Isn't it their consumptive practices that are funding your player purchases (as poor as they have been), and stadium upgrades (as corporate pandering as they may be)? Do you really want to go back to who was going to games from the late 60s-early 00's? You guys might be hitting a key moment in selloutdome....do you become everyone's favorite team outside of the yanks and have a (very-semi) diverse, bandwagony fan base that helps you be competitive by purchasing stupid shit like RSN Cards, DestiNations, team gear, tix, etc., or do you go back to the days of Jack Clark signings, and Ken Griffey Jr., Marquis Grissom, Barry Bonds, David Justice, and others having it written in their contracts that they cannot be traded to Boston? Think on that one.

By the way, as much as I grew to hate the team over these past few years, Tito was a great leader for you guys and it's gonna be tough to not see him in the dugout. Especially when Theo ditches out for the Cubs after hiring a 24 year-old to manage for you guys.

When I was in Toronto, I went to a Blue Jays game and they have the studio for Rogers Sportsnet in the stadium beyond the left field wall. While I was walking past, I discovered that someone with the Rogers Sportsnet crew doesn't think too highly of Youkilis, at least based on this photo:
