burnett is known for backing up his batters too. i can't imagine either team wanting shenanigans this series.
Smoltz has to be done as a starter after last night. I can see him being used in middle relief, but Tito has to get him out of the rotation. The Sox just don't look like a playoff team right now. Hopefully they'll get a win tonight and at least split the series so they don't lose any more ground in the East.

Between the Ortiz situation, losing 2 13+ inning games to division rivals in a week, the end of Smoltz and being down 0-3 to the Yanks this series, this has to be one of the worst weeks for the Sox in quite some time.

I loved LT and his pitching style from back in the 70's with the Red Sox. I saw him pitch on 2 occasions and he won both.

Tough loss from my perspective. But it was a good game to watch. After those first 2 innings, I thought things would get pretty ugly and one-sided. But both teams kept battling. Fun to see a lot of solid baseball... sacrifices, moving runners, driving in runs. The Tigers missed a few opportunities with lots of runners on and those two pop fouls to the catcher were killer. Here's hoping they come back strong tomorrow.
Magglio goign 3 for 3 was worth the loss though. If he can get back to form, this team might start looking as strong as it should have been all season.

I'm getting chills watching this stuff seeing Fenway from back then 72' 73' 74' 75'. Something i didn't know about LT and that is when he first came up he threw fastballs up to 98 mph.
Now That I didn't know when he was with the Indians. As a youth I can remember wondering what was that stuff he had in his mouth it was HUGE.
