Well, with the Phils out of the running now, the Sox are the frontrunners for Halladay.
If you guys get Doc without giving up a shit load, I'm calling Shenanigans!
uh .... ok.
Ricciardi, a Mass. native, IS getting fired at the end of the year. If he ends up trading Doc within the division without holding a gun to someone's head then I'm calling Shenanigans.

I'm thinking the owner would have final say on the deal.
from all accounts, the Jays price for Halladay is obnoxiously expensive.

The owner wants him to cut payroll. No one wants Rios or Wells and no one else is really making offers right now. So either Doc stays or goes to the Red Sox or I hate to say Yanks for something not too ridiculous.

no one is getting halladay. the price from him is to high anyways. but with all that being said, i still think the sawx will get him.
that'd be nice but we need bats. Phils, Angels and Yanks are in a different league than Sox in hitting.
Sox are 2-1 against the Phils, 8-0 against the Yanks and have never lost to the Angels in the post season.
I'd rather have Beckett, Halladay and Lester pitching all 5 in the division series and 6 of 7 games in the championship series and World Series.
What good hitting SS's are available? You have a log jam at 3B/1B/DH so you can't add anything there. Drew still has 2 years remaining on his contract and Ellsbury range makes up for the lack of range in LF and RF. And if it game down to it I'd much have Halladay than Victor Martinez C.
You make this move for Halladay then you have a rested bullpen and the Sox offense will come around and score more than enough to be playing in October.

ohhhh i totally agree with you. maybe an adam dunn? I'm in shock of how much your bats have come down to earth. you guys need to pick it up cause i don't wanna see the yanks win the division.

I wish you were right but there's just too much dullness with our bats. Drew has been the shits for the most part, V-tek hasn't been the same in forever (better than last year though), Papi is still not hitting his weight and Bay has been hot and cold. I'd like Halliday more than any hitting, but how much are you going to give up for him. If Cleveland gave up both Lee and Francisco for next to nothing, we should be able to get at least Martinez from them for prospects other than Bucholtz (sic?).

I discussed this with one of my fellow Red Sox fans in Philly last night at softball after the rumors surfaced that Boston was still in the Halladay game.
Boston trades 3, 4 or 5 prospects for Halladay. After the season, they trade Papelbon who's two years from free agency for 2 or 3 prospects. They then install Bard as closer who they have control for 6 years before he becomes a free agent. They let Halladay walk after next season and get two first round picks. Then use the money saved from Papelbon and Halladay to sign Felix Hernandez when he's 25 and a free agent.
Theo always makes moves that are part of a bigger move. The fun part is trying to see the chess game unfold.

Theo is also the guy who coveted Julio Lugo when he was with Tampa Bay and Ray Charles could see that Lugo wasn't quite that good even w/Tampa. What will Towers want for Adrian Gonzales? He has a lot of upside and is still young (and a Gold Glover w/almost 30 bombs already).

I'd say Theo's been more hit than miss ... he's jinxed at the shortstop position though (see Edgar Rentaria for further proof).
I do NOT see the Padres trading Adrian Gonzales ... he's a stud, he's young (27), he's Mexican (huge fan draw for Southern California based team) and he's cheap ... 2010: $4.75M, 2011: $5.5M club option (no buyout)
They'd need even more than the Blue Jays would want for Halladay.

looks like they're going head first for gonzalez with maybe heath bell thrown in. it's a start. wouldn't mind vicma thrown in or make a f'n deal for Mauer already!

I'm not really a fan of getting Gonzalez. If you're going to move high level prospects, don't trade for a position where you are already overloaded. You already have Youk, Ortiz, LaRoche, and Lowell with only three spots for DH/1B/3B.
Plus you can't move LaRoche in the deal because he makes more than Gonzalez so why would the Padres take him back.
The Red Sox should roll the dice and go for Halladay. The Blue Jays have to trade him tomorrow or they won't trade him at all. I can't picture Halladay waiving his no trade clause again in the offseason or next year after the fiasco this has become.

I don't know why they went and got Laroche in the first place as he wasn't cheap and they have their sights on Gonzales. I can see Adrian at first, Youk at third, Papi the DH with Lowell and Laroche backing up or pinch hitting where needed. Lowell isn't getting any younger and you don't want a Bill Buckner situation at 3rd where he is not good defensively anymore.

I mean the lovable Papi! I am a little surprised, but I'm a little naive anyways.
Ever see those PSAs with Papi and Mayor Menino? Who's more coherent in those? It's like it was a practical joke putting those two together.

there's nothing on NESN.com about it ... so, I'm guessing it's not him.
