Mike Johnson posted a very interesting read about the rebirth of ECW at http://www.pwinsider.com earlier today.
Basically, he said that WWE has already dropped the ball with this brand.
I agree with many of his points.
This PPV seems flat...no hype going into it.
I'm not quite sure that this is the revival we were looking for.
Let's hope for the best.

Wrestling these days feels like the alternate 1985 from Back to the Future 2.
Biff Tannan owns everything and it chaos everywhere.

Couple things I don't like about TNA:
1. No live show. Taped shows just aren't exciting as live ones
2. Storylines are sometimes flat. TNA reminds me of late 80's NWA
However, I agree the wrestling is fantastic.

I watched the first 20 minutes and the last 10. Even the ECW stuff was weak.
Vince and Triple H have caused the downfall of wrestling as we know it.

And now we're getting a Bushwhackers ripoff? Wrestling needs more managers, real tag teams and factions0

How about a wrestling story for fun?
It's late September 1998. WCW is still king of the ratings, but my friends and i had gone back to watching more WWF than WCW since (lol) "The Baddest Man in the World" Mike Tyson teamed with D-X. We hit two RAWs in a row. The live one on Monday night was the one where Austin drove the zamboni out to the ring and beat the shit out of Vince. To this day i've not been to a wrestling event, concert, or sporting event that matches that crowd's enthusiasm that night.
The next night is the taping for the next Monday's RAW. This was the first "Mr. Socko" as per WWE flashbacks, yet that material must have been taped later in the week, cause it was new to us when RAW hit the air 6 days later. Edge made his through-the-crowd entrance in our section and we all got to pat him on the shoulder, arm, or back on his way to the ring. Needless to say, the five of us were beyond psyched from this two night stint.
We're driving around after the show, not sure where to go, but too psyched to go home. Someone wants to eat, we're all hungry...naturally, Denny's is the only place open. There's about a 10 minute wait for a table so we're chilling in the little waiting area by the door on the booth benches.
I remember I'm lookin' down, elbows on knees, and my friend's eyes go wide. He points towards the register. "That's Edge and Val Venis!"
There is no way I'm falling for this. "Yeah, right."
"No, it really is! Look!"
I skeptcally turn and, damn, there they both are paying at the register. Now we're all like, "Holy shit, holy shit" We knew we had to say something to em. They were paying and heading out, so we thought we'd say our "Hi's" in the parking lot.
My friend always had a camcorder in his trunk...this is too perfect an opprotunity; we have to get us on tape with em.
They come out and we kind of swarm em saying "hi's" and introducing ourselves and complimenting them on the past couple shows. They have a friend with them it looks like; a guy considerably smaller than them and shorter than some of us. Edge says, "That's Rey Mysterio, " but we know he's not, and figure he's probably some techie or roadie for the WWF.
My friend get's his camcorder and we ask them if they minded taking a quick video of us with them. They agree and we're psyched. Could you blame us? This was each of their 'rookie years' in the WWF, and say what you want about Venis now, but back then he was blowing up.
But wait...there's a small problem. We all want to be in the video and no one wants to hold the camera. We're all talking over each other, each giving everyone their reason why they CAN'T hold the camera... none of us listening to each other. I think we all start hinting to the roadie that 'maybe he could do it if he didn't mind'. Finally he takes the camera and we all gather round. I'm tellin' you...the second that red recording light came on, the wrestlers were in character.
Val Venis: "Well, well, well. It's the whole gang along with the big Valbowski and Edge outside in the Denny's parking lot"
My friend jumps in here: "We came, we saw...and what'd we do, Val??"
Val (doing that 'hand' motion he'd do): "We came again!"
So now we're beyond psyched. Someone swears and Val actually berates them for it on camera. "Watch your language. You kiss your mother with that mouth?" Funny shit. We go inside and get our table, camcorder in hand and ready to relive it.
The guys next to us were cool. They talked about where they sat and the waitress was tellin us about all they ordered(they ordered a lot!).
There is some puzzled reaction coming from the guy watching the tape at this point. "Our heads are cut off? What the --". The rest of us laughed, "Oh good one! haha! Weren't those guys cool!"
The guys at the next table are listening to our stories and they say...>< "Did you see Scott Taylor, too?"
"Who's that?"
"He and Brian Christopher are in a tag team (Can't remember their pre-Too Much name) with the tights that look like the old Rockers' ones."
More mumbles about the camera angle as it's being passed around the table...
"Oh yeah, we saw them wrestling in one of the dark matches. He was here, too?"
"Yeah, he was guy with Edge and Val." Uh-oh. It all started to become clear.
We went back to my friend's apartment and put the tape in, not believing that we had been done in like that. Surely there must be some part of the tape with all our heads. Nope. All our heads, friends and wrestlers alike were cut off at the neck. Edge and Val were on every week getting huge pushes. Scott Taylor was wrestling dark matches. How were we to know him?!
We get kind of a small laugh out of it now, years later, but someone always bring up how much a dick Scotty 2 Hottie was. I'm sure there wasn't a one of us who ever rooted for that guy or any of his in-ring aquaintances throughout his pathetic career. Fuck, i'm still bitter at that ass, lol.0 -
lol..cool story.
ah well Scotty..I think he's still in the WWE out of pity cos of his testicular cancer...I can't remember the last time I saw him in the ring...LIVERPOOL FC -18 time League Champions-15 time Charity Shield Holders-7 time League Cup Winners-7 time FA Cup Winners-5 time European Champions-4 time UEFA Cup Winners-3 time European Super Cup Winners-1 time World Super Cup Winners
