thanks i'm doing pretty good in the picks but not so well in the rounds and minutes lol... I said TKO and that was most definately a KO lol...
great fight for palhares... joe is right on about him, that bjj was incredible. He never gave up on that choke and made salaverry believe that was all he was going to do and then out of nowhere goes into the arm bar. Easily sub of the night, unless bj pulls this one out in the 1st 3 rounds.. if it goes 5 i think sherk will take it
i had to watch this one a few more times. i've been trying to think of how to describe it, as it was almost as if they were on an air hockey table when palhares made the transition and pushed ivan away with his hamstrings. it's like palhares was floating one way, while ivan was floating the other. yep, easily sub of the night.
(although yoshida's was nice, too...but this one was incredibly quick and smooth)
i forgot about you mentioning this, leafs. i said to smithers prior to the fight that i thought bj might "caol uno" sherk...then bj mentioned the punch in the post-fight interview...too funny. if only i could predict the outcomes as well as i can the dialogue! haha
ps. this doesn't get you off the hook on the PM reply... ; )
hey, i'm doing much better on my PM replies! :D which reminds me, i must go delete some stuff as i'm close to the limit. i'll send out the two pre-lims tomorrow and reply to PM's
the clementi vs. etim match had a great first round and then was a bit stale after that, and the KDH vs. jason tan match was pretty one sided.
i remember kdh being asked in an interview about the rule changes where he wouldn't be allowed to stomp or kick a downed opponent and he said he didn't think it would matter. (he only really used them a few times, and only recently, in his ten fights) he did , however, have a new toy..."ELBOWS!" as the korean announcers were yelling. very effective elbows, especially for someone using them in a match for the first time.
hoping to have the english version of tan vs. dong-hyun by morning but the korean announcers were probably more spirited in their commentary anyway.
love the preview mookie, i agree that it should be an exciting show and would have been stellar if ninja hadn't have gotten injured. Would be nice to see some ground game but aslong as there are good fight i won't complain.
Gunna be nice to see gina fight, i've only really seen the vid you posted and was impressed. It'll be interesting to see how the media reacts to female mma on mainstream tv.
I agree about the opening fight, i don't know either fighter and by your preview it doesn't sound like i'm missing much. I wish the baroni fight would open the card since this should be able to keep people's attention alot better.
i meant to say thanks before for indulging my preview, leafs!
+1 on ninja. that would have been a great fight. it probably would have meant a little bit of submission attempts too. as it "stands" i can't see too many times in these matches where we'll see the ground unless someone is desperate.
i'm also interested to see and hear the reaction after the carano vs. young match. kaitlin has good muay thai, and her wins have been dominant with knees and high kicks. she won 3 of 4 of those fights against fighters who were fighting in their first night of mma, though. (kaitlin had won one mma match against another debut fighter prior to winning a hookn'shoot three round, one night tournament.) that's why i think this will be or could be fight of the night and surprise some people. there's bad women's mma and there's bad men's mma. same with the good matches. women can be every bit exciting and every bit as technical as the guys...sometimes moreso. as i said, gina's the most technical striker on the card, in my opinion. that's how i think she wins this match, through much better technical muay thai and more experience facing the more experienced fighters. her hands are also way better from what i have seen.
that's a good idea about having baroni as the opener. as much as i dislike him, he always comes to fight and put on a show. i hope i'm wrong about the HW's but i just haven't seen much from the HW division in EliteXC or any of their partner organizations other than antonio silva and the odd "guest" appearance. brett rogers is undefeated, but the fights i have seen from him have been kind of sloppy despite the wins.
in any case, a free show on saturday night! should be very interesting...
that's an awsome fight that i can't wait for.... i'm a fan of both guys so i don't know who i'm going with. Clay will come out like a bat out of hell but i wonder if mac might catch him in an arm lock or choke.

yup, he defeated fitch in a 5 round war which is now considered the greatest fight of all time. Then went on to beat bj in less than a round with knees to the head (yup the ufc added these when they saw how big of a success dream has become). And finally ended the year out by beating anderson silva at 185 with the exact same flying scissor heel hook that chonan beat him with and all watch in awe... GSP is now considered the greatest of all time, sorry you missed it buddy

the best part of this is that we get a free show on saturday which means 3 weeks in a row of fights... This show has a lot to live up to though with how good ufc 84 was, i hope they can deliver.

hey guys, silva wrote a new blog and it was a good read so i thought i'd post it up....
Wand comments on knockout win
“I was under a lot of pressure”
Wanderlei Silva left the octagon at UFC 84 redeemed. Coming off three back to back losses, the former Pride champion simply walked through Keith Jardine and in 36 seconds was already celebrating the knockout. Back at home, the fighter made a point of updating his blog, on which he wrote of the feeling after his first win since his UFC return.
“My greatest joy was without a doubt to be able to bring happiness to those of you who never gave up on believing in me. My true friends, now we have been redeemed. I spent the day reading and re-reading the messages from you on the internet. You have no idea how happy I am. I am certain any fighter would love to have fans like you. I went through three hard months, training for this fight, and it wasn’t just once or twice that the messages from you uplifted me and stimulated me to keep on training intensely. This fight was decisive. I was under a lot of pressure. I had to win by all means. But at these tough times I could see you guys were with me. To have the affection of you guys on my side is an honor, it is priceless. I was very moved and felt like crying after the win. Thank God I cry from happiness. At that moment I thought of all of you excited by this so long-awaited moment!! Now you can also talk to me on myspace (myspace.com/wanderleisilva.com). Here I’ll be able to get to know you better. I haven’t the words to thank you enough for the strength you have given me. Let’s beat our chests and celebrate with much joy, because this victory is ours!! Thank you so much.”

Shamrock's twin is a friend of mine that wanted to join our little fantasy league. It's a funny because he looks and acts NOTHING like Shamrock.

i was wondering if the name meant he resembled ken. ...or maybe frank? haha
oh, i left some pasta sauce in the freezer in the basement, releash. care to bring that up to the middle floor when you get a chance? :D

Just found this fight between Shaun Parker and Tyler Bryan on msnbc.com. Once the link comes up, click on Double KO video.
hahaha ...
Can't Smithers bring it up for me?
ps I hope you don't think I have THAT bad of taste in men. Neither Shamrock is what you would call attractive!
pretty much what i expected...back to sleep now...:D
...after i download these fights! haha
good for a laugh, leafs.
i keep getting distracted wanting to laugh at shonie carter wondering what to do as he's in shock.
what timing, eh? crazy!
...made up for the joke with a "gray" post (by way of leafs' reminder ) in the 85 thread.
