well, barring any lotto wins, i guess we are back to posting comments in the pit for this one, rather than speaking them directly to each other in person!
this looks like a great card. the LW title situation wil be settled. the main card is a treat for those who like the LHW's, and personally i'm very excited for the debut of the new three letters in the UFC....KDH!!! (Dong-hyun Kim) i'm hoping he can have an exciting performance against jason tan and make it onto the PPV. the big three main card matches, for the most part, don't look like "quick finishers", though. solid undercard too!
anyway, still trying to settle down after montreal...:)

pssst.... mookie... Matt Riddle is on Team Rampage
(except now he's out, and Tim Credeur advances)
spoiler!!!! i never post spoilers! hahaha
i guess i could have counted to see that i didn't have an even number of participants on each team, eh? thanks, ceg.
missed the episode that was on at 3 a.m. so i'll have to downloa....i mean....wait for it to be replayed and legally watch it on television.
i assume tim won by submission?
it looks like i lost my "photo face" as the weekend went on. maybe all i needed was a little practice...i still like the one of you and me with me with the postal truck going by behind us, though.
well, how am i supposed to know that you weren't watching?? you were sending me PM's while the show was on!!
plus, i already posted something about it last night... i figured i can't "spoil" it anymore!! hehehe...
tim by submission? i'm not telling.
indeed. it's my own fault, i'm all over the road over here! at least the ending will be a surprise.
wait a sec...someone's knocking at the door....it's matt hamill!!! i'll watch the episode with him. i think jorge is coming over too...
I gotta start the ball rolling with Tito!! I'm sad to say this will be his last fight.
heheh... and i thought I was the sleep deprived one this week!
Jorge can't make it. he's having lunch with me today.
haha...40 hours on the train will do that to a person! did i mention how long my train ride was?...:D i think it was actually easier on the way home because i was floating on a cloud all the way.
we know too many MMA celebrities now!
cool! thanks for posting that, lbc.
yeah, it's unfortunate that there is so much politics and $ and what not that gets in the way of the sport. the ufc is making a mistake with some of their fighters right now, i think. tito and andrei being the first two that come to mind. both guys are still huge draws and not even close to being done with their careers. andrei still might get worked out, but it looks like the damage is done with tito and dana and all that junk.
at least tito will be going out on a win. this is a perfect matchup for him, in my opinion.
we used to be at odds about tito, lbc...can you believe you've converted me!?!
releash, i forgot to ask if you could send me a picture of your "box" if you think of it. i'd like to post it in my pictures album.
:D:D
ummm.... uhhhh.... fuck it... i'm not even going to say anything...
thanks for making me choke on my salad.... LMFAO!!
same as my reaction to jillian's comment at the weigh-ins! too easy....i'm not sayin' nuthin'!
all in all, an action packed match with little to no stalling from start to finish. good to see both guys give it their all and an example to the rest of the competitors of what they need to do to move on in the competition.
ceg, you're right, how can you not like matt riddle? good kid and i think he has a bright future. he just made a mistake.
i'm hoping to see more matches like this one as the season goes on.
from the way the TUF 8 finale is shaping up, it looks like they are stepping away from the previous trend in the finales of having the majority of the competitors match up in the finals against each other. most of the matches so far are between veterans...
...AND EVAN TANNER is headlining against kendall grove! i couldn't be happier with this match! kendall was one of the four fighters who originally turned down a fight with evan when he made his return. eventually okami took that fight and evan had a tough task on his hands with okami that didn't go his way. i'm thinking that now that kendall has a couple of ko losses in a row that his ability to be selective about who he fights is a little more limited. he'll go through the fire with evan. i can't wait!
evan's recent pictures show that he's put some muscle mass back on and i think he'll be back in old form for this one. kendall is a perfect opponent for evan to take down and utilize his famous elbows.
it's looking like a very good show so far.
team tanner!
he does have a point about the medical bills incurred when fighting and training. i know of other fighters who have all of their bills covered so i don't understand the inequality there. this is something the ufc has to change if indeed some fighters are required to pay their own bills out of pocket or out of purses. it certainly doesn't leave much, if anything, for those on the lower level of the income scale, especially after they pay their trainers, gym fees, etc. to pay medical bills on top of that is like asking the fighters to fight for free!
anyway...
(the quote he refers to is from author and poet charles bukowski's "the best way to get famous is to run away".)
KALIB STARNES' STATEMENT REGARDING UFC
Thursday, April 24, 2008
by Tom Hamlin - MMAWeekly.com
Following one of the most contentious performances of 2008, middleweight Kalib Starnes has released a statement regarding his fight with Nate Quarry at UFC 83.
Irked by what he characterized as inaccurate accounts of his status with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Starnes also promises to release details on the injuries he sustained in the fight.
Below is Starnes' statement as sent to MMAWeekly.com:
"I would like to begin by saying that I was very happy to fight in Montreal, and that I trained really hard for my fight. I know that there were many people, including myself, who were disappointed with my performance, and I would like to apologize to my coaches, trainers and the fans for what happened. It was by far the worst fight of my career, much to the credit of my opponent who proved to be a real monster in the ring, I think that they should keep him in a cave somewhere and feed him raw meat!
During the fight I received a broken bone in my right foot and I find out tomorrow if I need to have surgery and get a pin put through it so that it will heal properly. I also have severe bruising on my left thigh, lumps on my head, a fat black eye, a sprained jaw and damage to the nerves in my molars.
My injuries weren't enough to satisfy Dana White, who made comments after the fight insinuating that I would have been better served allowing myself to be knocked out. Comments which prompted me to ask to be released from my contract.
Those commenting on my performance and wondering why I asked to be released from my contract, a contract which they had repeatedly refused to renegotiate, should keep in mind how fighters are compensated by the UFC.
In my last fight for example I was coming off a win against one of the UFC's top middleweights Chris Leben. I trained for over three months for the fight, with all expenses coming out of my own pocket. Food, travel, accommodations, supplements, equipment, coaching, and cornermen. The athletic commission requires a pre fight medical exam, blood tests, eye exam, and often an EKG, ECG, MRA/ MRI, or CT scan. All of these expenses are mandatory, and are incurred by the athlete.
I was then injured in the bout and received a huge gash on my forehead, which caused the doctor to halt the bout prematurely. The cut became infected and I spent about two and a half months recovering, during which time I was unable to work or generate any income. The UFC, a company which earned hundreds of millions of dollars that year, paid me less than $5,000.
You should also keep in mind that I was fighting for the sixth time for the organization and my second time on live PPV, on an event which generated tens of millions of dollars. In short I paid somewhere between $20,000 to $30,000 dollars for the privilege of having my head split open.
For him to come out and make a statement like that as though I should be willing to suffer a brain injury while being paid less than $10,000 is beyond comment. How much is a brain injury worth anyway?
Since the fight, extremely biased articles and commentary have appeared everywhere; articles which were of course reprinted quite extensively by those lacking the imagination to make up their own lies. Accusations flew and continue to fly about every aspect of my life and character. I've heard reports that I appeared on a radio show in Montreal attacking the UFC, that I threw the fight in protest, that I've been abandoned by my team over my performance, that I escaped from a polygamist colony in Texas as a child, that I was homeless for years surviving on nothing but peyote caps and good intentions, etc, etc.
I've been bombarded by questions from every media organization you can imagine. You'd think that I had knocked up Britney Spears, or strangled Paris Hiltons pet Chihuahua. They ask me clever questions like: Why would you want to be released from your UFC contract? Were you injured? What was it like on that reality show? Exactly what is a ‘hollaback girl’? Do lion-tiger hybrids (ligers) really exist? Which is better, chocolate, or vanilla? And finally; Why is your cardio always in question?" But I don't answer them, ‘I just light my cigarette, and smile.’
I have been asked to appear on Inside MMA Friday to discuss it further. If you're confused about the quote, look it up. I will make copies of my medical records relating to UFC 83 available upon request.
I regret having to discuss this matter in the press, and would have preferred to discuss this matter in private. I was not given this opportunity and feel as though I was forced into a position where I had to respond publicly to the pointed and biased case building against me in the press.
Regardless of my dissatisfaction with my contract, I will say that to the best of my knowledge the UFC honored all agreements made with me while I was under contract with them. I do not blame the UFC in any way for my loss, and I hold no grudges against Nate Quarry or his corner.
This sport is as much about losing as it is about winning. There is a winner and a loser in every fight. I tried to win but on that night I couldn't do it and I lost. Instead of allowing me to lose with dignity I was booed and called names and ridiculed beyond anything which seems reasonable to me. I tried to box with him and I couldn't find my range, I tried to kickbox with him and I broke my foot, I tried to take him down and grapple with him but I was unable to, I tried to work in the clinch but that didn't work either, in short, I failed. No excuses."

yah, i thought matt did really well for most of the match. it looked like he had the dominant position quite a few times, but unfortunately, he wasn't working it all that effectively.... i hope he sticks around too... seems like a good kid.
Chipper... why'd you have to wear your mama's underwear?
Just wanted to show America what I've got!
LOL!
calm in the face of danger....
i think it should be his new slogan!
he makes a good point.
it's starting to feel as though the whole situation got a little blown out of proportion.... :(
just a lil' bit! :D
...i'm going to have to suggest the new slogan to evan!
Hey Mook. If you can change and I can change, We can all change. LOL
Seriously though, I really do hope that they work the Andrei thing out, cause that is gonna be a big loss.
The Heaveyweight division is gonna suffer, no Coture,Sylvia,AA.
I was really hoping to see AA vs Nog.
well done, lbc!
yeah, me too, or randy ("h"andy ) vs. nog. it finally looked competitive last year, and now there's only a few good HW's left.
Hughes vs. Alves tapped for UFC 85 main event
by Dann Stupp - MMAJunkie.com
Apr 25, 2008
Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes (42-6 MMA, 15-3 UFC) and highly ranked 170-pounder contender Thiago Alves (14-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) have stepped up to fill the UFC 85 main-event slot vacated by an injured Chuck Liddell.
Hughes made the announcement on his official website. However, the UFC hadn't announced the bout as of Friday afternoon.
UFC 85 takes place June 7 at the O2 Arena in London, England.
Hughes, who said he wants to fight rival Matt Serra after the fight with Alves, is coming off a UFC 79 loss to Georges St. Pierre for the UFC's interim welterweight title. Prior to that, he had defeated Chris Lytle via unanimous decision at UFC 68.
"June 7, in England, I fight Thiago Alves," Hughes wrote. "The fight is confirmed, (and) it will be the main event for the card. Dana (White) just called me with the news.
"No matter what happens in this fight, I've got Serra next."
Hughes will now take on Alves, one of the UFC's top fighters who's somehow managed to fly under the radar. He's currently riding a five-fight win streak with his only losses in the UFC coming to Jon Fitch and Spencer Fisher. He most recently defeated Karo Parisyan with a second-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 13 earlier this month, which moved him up the world 170-pound rankings.
Liddell, who tore a hamstring during a recent training session, was slated to headline the event with Rashad Evans. Evans now faces James Irvin instead.

First off, thanks mookie for the prelims, i haven't watched them yet, but am going to sunday when i finally have time.
Next, i'm sorry, but i have to disagree with you on the Tito thing. I'm very sad to see him go because he was one of the fighters that initially brought me into the sport (after the dealy from the first couple ufc's), but imo, he's going to get schooled by Michida. Michida is up and coming and i don't see Tito taking this fight to be honest.
Chipper is awsome and just seems to love to fight, he was stupid to not stand up when Rampage was yelling at him (he had that freaking round) but he's young and will learn alot by being here.
I really can't believe that Matt Hughes took this fight with Alves (i got a little more respect for him). I mean, Alves is probably top 4 or 5 WW (depends where you put Serra) and I really have to respect that matt would take this fight with the chance to really advance Alves to top 3 WW (with Fitch and GSP). I think Alves will take this fight, but it's going to be damn good.
Finally, now that 83 is over, i'm kind of depressed. Going to be way to long till we all get to experience that again. I want to come to roo with you releash, but the line-up (and the fact that it falls on my holidays) for lolla looks way too damn good to pass up.
thanks again to mookie for the upload, you are awsome man!!!
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
this card will own, and i've only really looked at 3 fights lol.
ok 1st off, who is the DKM that you speak of mookie... don't know anything about him and i'd kind of like to know.
Love that Clementi is stepping up and coming in on short notice (and after a good fight against a strong competitor in Stout) and that we will get to see "war machine" again.
Like i said, i'm taking machida to school tito and probably stop him in the 2nd.
I'm going to take Wandy in the 1st by soccer kicks to head of jardine lol (i wish we still had pride rules lol). But really, i'll take wandy to stop jardine in the 2nd or possibly go to decision and wandy still come up with the victory (i'm freaking praying for this).
And well i can't really go against bj at 155. The guy is a possible p4p best fighter, how can you not take him at 155 against anybody in the world.

it seems bisping/Leben will now be added to the ufc 85 card aswell as the hughes/alves fight that mookie told us about. Guys are really stepping up for this ppv now that chuck and shogun both went down and i love it. Not to mention that this is resulting in some amazing fights, a ppv that went to garbage is now looking amazing.
09/19/05, 05/09/06, 05/10/06
...and 84 is going to be exciting too. DHK (or KDH in korea ) has been described as the korean georges st-pierre. he's tall, athletic and has an all around solid game. i've seen all his matches from korea, but the videos left a bit to be desired, so i'm hoping he gets on the PPV so i can get a better look. he's considered by most to be the best WW in korea so i'm anxious to see how he performs in the UFC. he's used to competing in a ring, so there will be a lot of differences for him to deal with. they made the signing some time ago and the initial rumour was a match in montreal! maybe when they come back.
lbc's going to get mad at you for picking lyoto! haha my gut's telling me it's a good style match for tito, so that's what i'm going with. machida has some skills, though! it could be a difference maker in the fantasy league!
no worries on the pre-lims. i hope they worked for everyone. sorry for the delay. i think i mentioned it took longer than i thought...a couple of "re-takes" and what not, so that's why i was hoping they'd work.
i'm sorry civ but i have to disagree... He is pretty much admitting that he gave up because he was facing a better fighter. If he was just going to run for 2 more rounds, I say throw in the towel after the 1st. Don't go out there and disrespect the fans by wasting their time if you aren't going to try and earn your money. I lost a great deal of respect for kalib from this fight, and i just love how he writes "no excusses" when it seems that is all he is doing.
