  • wow , this is bad, in so many ways. In a story about who can laugh about the Mets choke, this is the most telling, by far:

Reporter for a Manhattan-based weekly. During the Mets' final-week freefall, the writer tried to interview Ramon Castro and found himself amid a cackling, high-decibel joke between Castro and Jose Reyes. The players were speaking in Spanish, and the writer didn't seem to know if or how they were making sport of him. It was a disquieting scene. Alas, the last laugh was on Reyes, whose play sadly spoke volumes, and Castro, who humiliated himself Sunday with a grand slam celebration on a warning-track fly.

Why not root for the Phillies. The team that beat you 12 out of 18 times this year? If you would have beaten us 1 out of the last 8 times we played, you would be NL East Champs. Support the East. Support The Team To Beat.

In all seriousness, it should be a good series. I honestly think the Phils will win in 4. Hamels & Kendrick pitching for the Phils @ home will be tough for the Rockies hitters. Can't wait till 3pm tomorrow.

"it should be a good series."

You really believed that, didn't you? It didn't take long for the Phils lack of pitching to prove itself.

Meanwhile, Omar needs to be plotting his free agent priority list and keeping trade lines open in preparation for the winter meetings. They're only two months away, so get busy Front Office. You have email promises to live up to.

    .

it wasn't pitching that cost the Phils the series. their hitting sucked. hit something like .170 for the 3 games. Never put any innings together. almost all the runs were from home runs. Just didn't hit is why the Phils lost. Short series like that it happens sometimes. With the core nucleus still young and stars (Utley, Howard, Hamels) the Phils should be around for the next few years in the playoff hunt.

Our lack of offense production and a few suspect moves by our well-meaning, but dim-witted manager really cost us this series. If it was our lack of pitching that lost us the series, I think I would be able to cope with it better. Game 2 aside, our pitchers gave up 6 runs in game 1 & 3 combined, that is pretty good against an offensive powerhouse like colorado, its just too bad their pitching was able to hold us to 3 runs combined in those games. Colorado has just been on fire right now, 17 out of 18 is insane.

It'll still be nice to be known as the defending NL East champs next season, and we owe a debt to you for that monumental collapse.

  • well then you read this post from me:

That's exactly why the Mets will always be NY's red headed stepchild baseball team. The Yankees simply got beat by a better team. people show their baseball ignorance when they say things like they are bitches because they lost, or that they choked. What, is their 1 World Series champion and 29 chokers?

Thank you for proving me correct. If anything the Mutts look even worse now than they did this time last week. They choked away a 7 game lead in 17 days to a team that got swept in the playoffs.
  • Are you talking to me? Cause I didn't say any of those things in your quote. I'm just a Mets fan who is happy to see the Yankees and Phillies lose in the first round and nothing is gonna take that way from me lol. I don't care if it makes the mets looks worse they looked so bad it doesnt even matter.

Please, stop your fucking crying. Or at least keep in the bitch fest Yankee thread :). If I'm ignorant for calling the Yanks bitches so be it, but your comments regarding red headed stepchildren were simply vicious and uncalled for..nice logic btw..

and yes, everyone knows that the Yankees will always be the top team in New York, but thanks for clearing that up champ..

  • Looks like Rickey is out, and Rudy Jaramillo could be on his way in. I guess that means HoJo will go back to coaching first, or down to the minors to coach, unless he gets job offers elsewhere. Jaramillo is one of the most respected hitting coaches in the game

i think rickey is out cause he rubbed off on jose to much.wouldnt wanna play jose in poker these days.id really like to see them keep hojo around, he had a huge impact on wright this year

  • makes sense to keep him around, but he might not be happy about getting bumped for Rudy, and going back to coaching 1st is a clear demotion

  • my guess is that he would not want to take over for Willie. If it was someone else, I would say yeah, he would take over. I don't think he would want to embarrass Willie. That's just my guess though

So, with A-Rod opting out theres been some speculation of the Mets signing him. Personally I don't see it happening, nor do I want it. I know his production is tremendous, but I just don't think he's a good fit. First, what would we do with Wright? He's the future of this franchise and I think the Mets need to be clear about that, and keep him where he belongs. Second, the Mets suffered a mental collapse as much as physical this year. We need players who will spark and and invigorate this team. Not ones who are drama queens, nor who you can't tell where their affinity truly is.

Mets also have picked up options on Alou and resigned Easley. Definitely a good call on Alou, I think its good cause his production was amazing when he played, and it will also give some of the younger outfielders more time to play because there's no way he's in left full time.

I personally think the Mets should re-sign Glavine (if he'll sign with them). Sure his last three starts were bad, but he had a great season otherwise, and if the Mets hadn't blown so many games for him before, that last game wouldn't have mattered.

About Lo Duca, I want the Mets to see what they can do about signing Posada, because, well thats an obvious upgrade. But, I hope they don't wait too long because I think the chances of signing Posada are slim, and I wouldn't want to miss out on Posada and lose Lo Duca.

I've also heard some rumors that the Orioles might trade Bedard. If they do, I hope Omar pursues this seriously. He would be a huge asset to the starting rotation.
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.
  • picking up alou's option is a good move, but only if the team plans on getting 100 games from him, and they have someone capable of filling in for him when he's on the DL. My other concern with him is if he is one of the many who will be on the Mitchell Report. The way his body has systematically broken down makes me suspicious

Are the Mets REALLY interested in these third basemen (Rodriguez, Cabrera) or is it a smokescreen by management to lure better pitching or other players?

I can't for the life of me come up with a reason why they should consider moving Wright from third.

  • my guess is they're not really interested in Rodriguez, just looking to get their name in the paper, and maybe drive up the price for whoever does sign him. As for Cabrera, I don't think they have what it takes to get him. He's a top 10 major league hitter, and he's only 24. only a team like Florida would be stupid enough to even think about trading him. Seriously, if you can't hang onto a guy like Miguel Cabrera, just close up shop. That said, if he really does go on the market, he will bring back a package the Mets just can't match. As a Yankee fan, I hope the Yankees don't go after him, because I don't want to see them give up what it would take to get him.

As for Wright, despite the Gold Glove, I just don't think he's that great a 3B. What made him so much better than Scott Rolen this year? Rolen won 6 of the past 7 GG's, and the only year he lost, he missed 100 games. Now Rolen only played in 112 games this year, but he had a .969 fielding % compared to Wright's .954%. Wright had 21 errors, compared to Rolen's 10. (Rolen made an error every 11.2 games, while Wright made an error every 7.5 games) I'm not saying Wright is a terrible 3B, but if you can get a cabrera, or an Afraud, well then Wright has to learn how to hold a guy on at 1st, or how to shag some flies
