I believe he has a 3 year deal, 2 years left. And with the Mutts, a steroid suspension nets you a 2 year contract extension, not termination
  • this met fan will be rooting for the rockies this postseason ... looks like a bunch of guys who rather get dirty than choreograph hr dances.

they are a fun team to root for, what a great lineup. But rarely do teams slug their way to a championship. Their bullpen is good, but they probably have the worst starting pitching in the playoffs.

good and i dont think wille should have any say.he hasnt been to good at picking coaches.id also like to see willie go back to the willie of 05,06 where he had the clubhouse on lockdown in regards to the players having fun there.this team also needs to start stealing bases at will, the mets have the players to do it.the mets fan wont be watching any of the postseason, its HOCKEY SEASON for me now.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
    Sammi: Wanna just break up?

  • as much as i think the manager should have a say in picking coaches, willie has done nothing to demand that from the front office.

willie also has to make a change in the attitude. he himself is a self described old school guy ... he needs to coach like it. he tried to play nice, but it hasn;t worked. maybe he has to take spanish lessons to get through to these guys.
I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.
  • Wow, listening to Willie's press conference, and I don't like what I'm hearing at all. Saying things like:

"This year was part of the learning process to become a winner that teams have to go through" Bullshit. This was as much of a "Win now" team as there ever has been

"they're young, they make mistakes. They'll make em again"

"Lastings is a good kid. It's OUR CULTURE'S FAULT. Sportscenter, hip hop"

He really fucking said that! He said Milledge didn't realize he made a mistake celebrating his HR Saturday

"I coached young guys across town who made the same mistakes"

Again, Bullshit. Jeter never, ever stood at home plate while a ball he hit was in play. If a Yankee kid did do that, he was on the next flight to Columbus

"My coaches and I did a great job this year, keeping a finger on the pulse of the clubhouse"

"reyes hustles all the time" Wake up, Willie

he's making excuses for the lack of hustle. "They didn't know where the ball was"

yeah...and? Hit the ball, run to 1st. The Ump will tell you if it's foul. If you're not sure, RUN
  • problem is he's gotta handle these youngsters with kid gloves ... he lost the reyes the first time he benched him. he obvioulsy did not respond to it, so willie has to try to play nice.

as for milledge, if necessary willie needs to give a signal to the other manager that a plunking may be needed.

with running, i heard keith hernandez (or somebody) mention they never got to handshake the first base coach on an HR since they were running out of the box.

with the guys in the bronx, mistakes are one thing ... showing no heart and hustle is another.

as for omar, i am awaiting the mike and dogs 4:00 pm interview, but do not expect to hear anything new, just a whole bunch of "you know what i'm saying" and "i cannot talk about other players under contract" and "we will look to improve, i am always looking to improve" ... plus the obligatory "you can never have enought pitching".

selig interview at 5:05 should also be good.
I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.

  • By the way ... partly joking / partly serious with the latin issue a couple weeks ago, but with the emergance of Tony (Garcia) Bernazard (Asst. GM) being a central figure in the aftermath of the great mets collapse, it just adds fuel to the los mets fire.

he used to work for MLB and was a liason for the latin players, and currently, word is all the mets' latin players have his cell #. Omar probably is unbiased, but if his right hand man isn;t, that can help explain some past moves.

also, in my opinion, Tony B is a guy with an ego who was jealous of randolph during his playing days, and is now taking advantage of his position in the front office.

he also was schmoozing before the games with manny acta. i have no idea what they talked about but you do have to think some baseball stuff might have come up.

I'm sure there is some credence to this, but above all I just wish the entire atmosphere and environment changes next year. However, I don't see this change occur with the return of Willie. There is a reason every team hates the fucking Mets, and why the Marlins wanted to beat them so bad while Washington opted to lay down in Philly..

washington opted to lay down??? right, it had nothing to do with the phillies' play. i think the mets are the only ones who opted to lay down at the end of the season.

Washington had nothing against the Phills, but hated the Mets. When they saw that the Mets lost on the final day, maybe they started packing their bags..it happens..and agree about the Mets laying down...pathetic arrogant assholes..

you may have just f-ed yourself....

but thanks for adding to the thread.....

oh...and by the way...bringing up Buckner only reminds us Mets fans how we made the best world series come back of all time against the red socks....

rick down was just on espn radio and had some interesting things to say.

among them that the reason for his firing was a difference in philosophies. essentially he wanted to lead the league in runs scored by taking a proactive approach and having hitters swing at pitches they knew they could hit and management wanted to lead the league in walks which they believed would lead to more runs.

he also said he found out he was fired through the media and not the team initially.

  • M & MD reported a little while ago that Glavine has told an Atlanta are paper that he is leaning towards declining his $13 mil option for next year. What a break that would be for the Mets. Nothing definate yet though, and I could see his agent going to the Mets for a buyout of that option, meaning The Mets give him $4-5 million, and he declines the option

you shouldn't care, just make sure the team gets the memo to not play half-assed baseball during the summer and build a 10-game lead when they have the chance.

well yeah but my point is that had they turned it on a little more, they wouldn't have been in that spot.

from the first game of the second half to August 11, the Mets won 16 of 29 games. That increased their lead in the division by just one half-game.

Then from August 12-25, they won 9 of 12 and built a seven-game lead. Then they couldn't hit David Wells and lost the four in a row in Philadelphia. It was at that point that their inability to win more than four, five in a row began to catch up to them.

Had they done a 10 wins in 12 game run that did right after the four losses in Philadelphia at some point during the summer, chances are you'd be watching them against the Rockies right now.

    Glavine officially declined his option.

Still not sure how i feel about him returning. Before his last 3 starts I would have unquestionably said yes. Now I'm not so sure.

Edit: They obviously need at least two younger arms in the rotation. And a totally revamped bullpen.

The whole team pretty much needs to get younger.
