Poile agrees not to match, Weber a Flyer.
Flyers turn around and trade players back to Nshville for the First Round picks that they would lose.
And so you see, I have come to doubt

Or a trade beforehand gives Flyers rights and they get back a couple of the draft picks. 13 of one, bakers dozen of the other.

being restricted....doubt that nashville would have traded his rights for less than what they get as compensation

if he would have been unrestricted, then yes, trading for rights would have made sense.

didn't the owners just ask for a 5 year max contract. :fp:

and here come the flyers throwing everything out of whack
    No Minnesota started.

Makes me feel better about Kovy contract.

when owners are giving out contracts like this, and then trying to cut salaries to 46% of revenue....do we really think there won't be a lock out. :fp:

at least we have basketball this year....oh wait. :fp:

Nashville is going to have a very tough time matching this.
The 4 first rounders from the Flyers would most likely be later round picks. Nshville would have gotten more "slam-dunk" type of players in a trade. Thats why I think a trade will go down.
Flyers will deal them a couple better players to get back all or some of their first rounders.

This is the best D-man in the league! The cap hit would be below $8M.

Love this!!! I hope Nash dosen't match, please Nash don't match!!!!!!!!!

Who cares about the yrs the back cash is pennies.

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenceman Shea Weber to a 14-year offer sheet worth a total of of $110 million. The deal includes $68 million in bonus money in the first six years.

In total, Weber will make $14 million in each of the first four years; $12 million in years five and six; $6 million in each of the next four seasons; $3 million in year 11; and $1 million in each of the remaining years

The years are simply a salary cap gimmick.

There cannot be a trade. The rules say once an offer sheet is signed, he is a Flyer or a Predator. He CANNOT be traded for a full year. Because so much is wrapped into the first year, no way he gets traded after that.

The Predators basically said they are matching, but are going to review the complexities of the deal.

can the preds afford to match that? ... how is it that these deals get signed without a CBA?
  • fifefife Posts: 3,327
This was a great move by the Flyers. even if he doesn't sign with the Flyers no other eastern team (the Pens) will get him. smart move!

I also think that this is a slap from snider to the assman!

I don't see how a franchise thats worth only 163 million can afford this contract.

They had budgeted for Suter AND Weber, now just have to pay Weber. Plus they have to spend another $13M or so to get to the cap min. So it's not as much of a stretch as it seems.

I don't think that matters to be honest. the NHL told teams to go ahead and operate as they would have. I don't like these signings but hey if they are in the rules then a team has to do what a teams has to do.

the backfire here is if preds match ... weber has basically tied the franchise's hands in their ability to bring in players to make a cup run ...

They didn't budget 80 mill for the first 6yrs for ONE player.

Weber got 7.5 from abritration. Nashville didn't even wanna pay him that. I don't think Homer would have done this deal if he thought Nashville would match.
