Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers signed restricted free agent forward Thomas Vanek to an offer sheet on Friday and the Buffalo Sabres wasted little time in matching it.
The deal was for seven years and $50 million.

sabres back in the playoff huntI'll be in the neighborhood later on, and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get some frozen yogurt, or perhaps a whole meal of food, if that would be agreeable. Damnit.

i could care less about Drury, but I still miss Briere.
The team really seems to have hit their stride, but almost everyone in the East is a bad week away from being outside looking in.
Tonight will be interesting. Toronto hasnt played since Hockey Day in Canada and Buffalo is at the end of 6 games in 9 days. I expect Buffalo to jump on Toronto early, then hopefully hold them off when fatigue sets in and Toronto regains their legs.0 -

I talk hockey elsewhere. I just got email notification that this thread had a reply so I added to it.
I dont think it says anything about fan support if threads are active in Pearl Jam forums.
Most Buffalo fans are there through thick and thin. The bankrupcy years were the exception. You cant expect an entire fan base to stay frenzied through that misery. Unfortunately some people choose to look at that 3 year window as the true measure of our fan base, and think of the last few years of sellouts as the exception. That is not true.0 -

how do u get an email notification?
im not saying bad things about the fans ,and i know their are only a few on this board
but fact is , this thread got bumped from the depths now that the sabres are in the hunt(no other reason)
last post was july 6th (after the sabs lost their 2 free agents ) and came back feb 13th0 -
i get email notifications every day from threads I am subscribed to (meaning those I posted in). Most of them I delete, but Buffalo Sabres caught my eye.
Yeah I guess it is 'convenient' that the day the sabres pull into a playoff spot the thread gets resurrected.0 -
im surprised there was nothing around the time of the winter classic. The excitement surround the team then was at a peak, and the team on the ice was playing very well.
But that Drury/Briere thing did sting pretty bad, as did the 10 game losing streak.0 -

Today was one of the best sporting events i been apart of . The fans from pens fans to sabres fans to all those crazy canadians that went just for the the love of hockey . My team lost today but i dont think it really matters the whole event was bigger than one team winning or losing ... I think it should be looked at as a victory for hockey .... FUCK YEAH .... woo hooo .... plus they played bon jovi livin on a prayer , 73 thousands fans singin that was just sweeet. i hope this becomes a yearly event
