He's a defensive midfielder. In that star-studded lineup of attacking flair that Argentina has, someone in the midfield has to stay back.

Yes but no goals is pretty weird after 4 season of professional football even for a defensive midfielder.

  • Brazil is Back!!!

What a great game by them really, a youthful team with so much skill and talent and showing all the passion that Ronaldinho, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Adriano, etc lacked in the last WC. You could feel Dunga's influence on the players attitude, and Kaka's goal was just breath-taking.
And Argentina didn't really played that bad, imo Brazil was just simply superior, Riquelme was disappointing though... just like in the WC.

Riquelme isn't that good, at least I think he is pretty average.

I really liked the second goal better, great movement awareness, speed and skill.

Riquelme USED to be kinda good...he's not anymore. I don't even think there's room for him in the squad nowadays.

yeah, like you said He used to be very good in Boca... I remember that game against Real Madrid for the Intercontinental Cup, the spaniards just couldn't take the ball away from him. But nowdays he's just so slow and apathetic

4 assists in 5 matches, and basically a thorn in the side of 3 very good teams (Ivory Coast, Germany, and Mexico) while rendering another much-vaunted defense (Serbia) meaningless. Were you watching the same World Cup I was?

Absolutly right "Pecho frío"...and I'm Boca Jrs's fan, however I don't like him at WC, always doubtful and weak. He did a very good job in Boca Jrs.

I thought that Pekerman went out of his way to field him. I thought he would have done better giving his spot to someone else. Someone that would have taken the pressure of the other midfielders. They had to do all his dirty work, because he won't defend. Messi should have started.

He had some moments, but they don't blind me. If someone is given such a free role he should be very dominant going forward. He wasn't. A player on that level should be expected to do something good especially if that is all he needs to do. Altogether I would give him just a 6

  • I am really not one of those people who blame Seedorf when it rains.:D However I don't like him much either.
I don't think he played well on Euro '04. I remember him playing as he always did and does. He is a mailman(:D), he will walk up to you with the ball and when he is so close that he can shake your hand that is when he will pass the ball.
I agree with you that he has been playing well for Milan, but I still see him walking with the ball way too often. I feel that every time he touches the ball he is really stroking his Ego. And would he have the pace to match it, well maybe it wouldn't be that bad, but he does the things so slow(op z'n elf en dertigst).
I don't think he is the answer, unless you are willing to put him on the number ten spot and then still I will keep having my doubts.

The thing that amazes me the most about him is he's ability to do something extraordinary like a goal from 40 yards out and then the next minute he would just lose the ball in the most ridiculous way ever.
    Very inconsistent player...
