Man so much bragging rights are on the line over the next three days living here in atlanta. I would love a sweep but 2 out of 3 wins for the yankees would make me happy.

I guess if there's one thing you can take out of this one is Wang needed 29 less pitches to make it through five and probably would have gone at least six if it was in an American League park. I suspect we'll know better about Wang once the Yankees resume intraleague play.

SO just wondering...not to take away from this years team...but there are a few FA's. After seeing about a half of season who do you bring back....

-Damon? -- see ya bye. Gardner, Melky is better in my opinion. Gardners speed & versatilty makes things happen
-Matsui? -- see ya bye. Heard Japan wants him back
-Andy? -- TBD. Wont be surprised if he retires
-Nady? -- Why not? If healthy, maybe the a DH option
-Other --- Keep Molina & Cervelli, really work Cervelli's bat in the offseason. Like that guy. Posada's last year on contract....maybe more time at DH.

the entire infield will be back, though jeter will be in a contract year in 2010. As for the outfield, all are candidates to go. Damon is a halfway player, offense only. Swisher, Cabrera, Gardner are all fourth outfielders and you can't have three on the same team. They're locked into Burnett and Sabathia. Wang and Chamberlain will probably be back and they could either slot Hughes in for Pettitte, assuming Pettitte retires.
Catching-wise, you might be able to trade Molina, not get anything great and keep Cervelli and Posada.

That was tonight's lineup, but I'm hearing it was taken down by coach Rob Thomson and Nick Swisher is now meeting with Cashman and Girardi.

I think Hughes should be a starter next year. Damon will probably be back as dh/of. Austin Jackson will probably be competing for an outfield spot next year.

Cashman met with everyone in the clubhouse before the game on Wed and said get your shit together you overpaid assholes... well he did not say that but i'm sure he said get yoru shit together...

I had the pleasure of going to the games on Wed & Thurs. Andy did not have it yesterday and i know giradi was trying to get him through 5 to get teh win, but he almost blew it by doing so.

It was odd how many yankee fans were at Turner field totally dwarfed the braves fans. Fans at braves games hardly ever chant but after hearing the yankee fans take over every once in a while you would hear some of them try to start somthing up. Like once i hears a JE-TER SU-CKS chant about twice into it a roar of Lets Go Jeter swamped them and you coudl not hear the braves fans.

    It was great :D

anyone notice a-rod's enthusiasm in the dugout all night long? that was pretty refreshing to see, looked like a little kid enjoying himself.

nice to see wang's era almost below 10.00. looks like he is heading in the right direction, interesting to see where he will be at come the end of july.

you'll see that from time to time. If you're at a game or even on TV, you'll see that when A-Rod takes the field, he sprints out and pretends that he's playing football with Teixeira, who will thrown him the ball like he's a wide receiver.

Obviously they wouldn't. I guess they wanted to him to continue his tour of the AL East since he already played with Toronto, Tampa Bay and Boston.

they need to send hughes down pretty soon so he can get his innings. I don't know what they were saying about Hughes and Mo, but Hughes has more then one or two pitches. He should be given every chance to start.

Randy Johnson would have been a great reliver too. One of the best, but if you have a guy who can be a starter you gotta give him every chance to do it.

they were just saying Mo started games in 95 before going to the pen. Then always said he was going to eventually be a starter. Kinda similar to Hughes. & we all know what happened with Mo.

Hughes is not going down as far as I've heard. He's staying in the majors this year as a reliever unless a rotation spot needs to be filled. They're looking at what gives them the best chance to win now. & Bruney don't look to nasty yet.

Thats disapointing for me to hear. I think the team needs Hughes to get his innings up so next year he can step into the rotation. I would think as an organization they would like him to get 140 or so innings of work this year.

The difference between Hughes and Mo is when Mo was a starter all he really had was a good fastball. He did not develop his cutter until 1997 while playing catch with Ramiro Mendoza ( i read a story about it recently that is the only reason i recall the details so well). Hughes has 3 major league level pitches he can throw. Guys like that should start not be put in the pen unless they have durability issues (see kerry wood)

Joe said Hughes will stay in the pen for now and that they would have to send him down before starting him again. I would assume the same applies for Aceves. He also said they still see his future as a starter. After getting used to short relief, he wouldn't be able to give them many innings in a start right now. I think he will stay there for the rest of the season, especially with the way he has pitched since being put into the setup role.
