and some dogs are simply born deaf, for no real apparent reason...just like people.
good friends of ours got a boston terrier, adorable and sweet dog. deaf from birth.
Several years ago we had a sheltie that was born deaf. Her name was Tess. She was white with blue eyes. She was beautiful and just as sweet as she could be. Mothers aren't supposed to have favorites but I really think she was the best dog we've ever had. I'll try to scan some pictures of her to post.

i have very few pics of norm in the water since he hates it...but he's doing great...hope to get him back up to the mountains in a few weeks....he loves it up there

Look down at me now, while you sit there at your computer. See the way my dark brown eyes look at yours? They are slightly cloudy now. That comes with age. The gray hairs are beginning to ring my soft muzzle.

just a simple moment of your time? That is all I ask. To slow down, if even for a few minutes to be with me. So many times you have been saddened by the words you read on that screen, of others of my kind, passing.
Sometimes we die young and oh so quickly; sometimes so suddenly it wrenches your heart out of your throat. Sometimes, we age so slowly before your eyes that you may not even seem to know until the very end, when welook at you with grizzled muzzles and cataract clouded eyes. Still the love is always there, even when we must take that long sleep, to run free in a distant land. I may not be here tomorrow; I may not be here next week.
Someday you will shed the water from your eyes, that humans have when deep grief fills their souls, and you will be angry at yourself that you did not have just "One more day" with me. Because I love you so, your sorrow touches my spirit and grieves me. We have NOW, together. So come, sit down here next to me on the floor, and look deep into my eyes. What do you see?

Come to me not as "alpha" or as "trainer" or even "Mom or Dad," come to me as a living soul and stroke my fur and let us look deep into one another's eyes, and talk. So, this weekend, me and my girlfriend's dog had a moment, a moment where he chose me over her, quite the moment indeed, so ... he's almost "our" dog, and not just "her" dog ... with that ... I introduce, Little Guy (hey, I didn't name him)
he likes to start the weekend off with a little sushi ... and some beer ...
Saturday's are for relaxing, heading to the local divebar for some barbeque ... and of course, beer ...

Here she is eating my skirt at about 4 weeks or so.
I took her to work with me for three months and she would sit on my lap while I typed etc! Now she still wants to sit on people's laps! She doesn't realise she is big now!

This is Floyd about 12 weeks old or so with his Dad...the person he adores most in the world:
He's deaf and stubborn....and is NOT easy to train....but he'll do anything if you hold food in your hand!

Born deaf. We didn't even realise for a year or so. We just thought he was very very stubborn...as did the vet.
