    Hockey Rodent

What I saw on Friday made me smile.

What I saw on Friday was enough good stuff to keep the faith. There was a Buffalo Sabre team on home ice routinely frustrated for fifty-nine minutes and more.

Henrik Lundqvist was damned sharp. But he wasn't out of this universe sharp... meaning he can do it again.

I saw Chris Drury bring nothing, have nothing, deliver nothing.

The playoffs are a war of attrition, my friends. And whether you've noticed it or not, the Sabres are wearing down as much as the good guys. Ruff is reaching deep into his bag of tricks and the bag is getting emptier. Shuffling lines didn't do anything.

    Now don't get me wrong(ly).

Down to a pair of elimination contests is still a daunting challenge. I won't make light of the work ahead.

But the Blueshirts have already demonstrated... dis-ir-regardles the Sabres being officially "superior"... the fact remains that New York has made each game a fifty-fifty proposition.

That gives the downstaters a one-in-four shot.

And if they can salvage Game Six on Sunday, reaching the Conference Finals will boil down to a coin flip.

i agree with every single thing written in that above post. yes, we gave up on them or at least I did when they coughed up a two-goal lead and gave up two shorthanded goals to the lowly Blue Jackets on home. But starting with the shootout victory against St. Louis, this has been a magical run. It's one that I'm not ready to end and I doubt the Rangers and all the regulars in this thread are ready to cave.

Grab your ticket and your suitcase
    Thunder's rollin' down this track
You don't know where you're goin'
But you know you won't be back
    Darlin' if you're weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We'll take what we can carry
    And we'll leave the rest

    Big Wheels rolling through fields
    Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

    I will provide for you
And I'll stand by your side
You'll need a good companion for
    This part of the ride
    Leave behind your sorrows
Let this day be the last
    Tomorrow there'll be sunshine
    And all this darkness past

    Big wheels roll through fields
    Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

    This Train...
    Carries saints and sinners
    This Train...
    Carries losers and winners
    This Train...
    Carries whores and gamblers
    This Train...
    Carries lost souls
    This Train...
    Dreams will not be thwarted
    This Train...
    Faith will be rewarded
    This Train...
    Hear the steel wheels singin'
    This Train...
    Bells of freedom ringin'

    This Train...

touching...but our run has seen bancruptcy, a possible move to another city, our run has been 2 years in the making, and your cute little 2 month run will not stop this juggernaught. the only thing that stopped us last year was a hit to connolly's head, and 4 injured d-men...

like i said, your little "run" has been cute...but go a couple more years on it, then come talk to me...till then...two words:

    chris fuckin drury

jagr not only is bigger in stature, hes also got a helluva lotta points, and experience.

not to discount drury in any way ( almost local boy from connecticut ) they are just 2 entirely different types of players,. albeit both great, theres nothing " laughable " about jagr being our captain , at least not to this team , or to us , ... its diehard fans.

jagr not only is bigger in stature, hes also got a helluva lotta points, and experience.

not to discount drury in any way ( almost local boy from connecticut ) they are just 2 entirely different types of players,. albeit both great, theres nothing " laughable " about jagr being our captain , at least not to this team , or to us , ... its diehard fans.

who would you rather have as your captain?
And you ask me what I want this year

well, maybe when the Rangers sign drury this free agency summer, I could then exprapolate an appropriate and of course biased answer for you.

until then, as long as they keep winning , i'll tolerate jagr sporting the C .

    good luck with that!

we will gladly accept a bit of luck ,

we will lose breire...not losing drury though....word is that danny will be going to philly...a team we can both agree to hate...

drury is the hockey version of jeter...so clutch...there's no way we will let him go...

lemme say...lundqvist is probably the best goalie in the league...besides luango

that wasn't luck...that was persistance :) we've made winning games that we shouldn't have our speciality...that's not luck, that's championship hockey!

    oh yeah
    my bad

brierre might hav3e been the one i heard about possibly wearing the blue white and red next season.

the sabes need to go back to the original logo tho, the crosssed sabred over the buff and the original blue and gold unis- those were clutch.

that slug thing is really horrible, even with the new flashy redesigned color schemes and striipes wiuth the little breast number.

    eeeh gads its hideous

    Win Or Go Home

    May 5, 2007

The Rangers may very well have had their season on the line last night in Buffalo, and it appeared with 20 seconds left in regulation that they had done all they needed to do to secure the first road victory of this Eastern Conference Semifinal. But with the game all but secure the Rangers faltered, and committed a series of errors that culminated in Chris Drury's game tying goal with just 7.7 seconds remaining. You could certainly question Tom Renney's decision to send out an ailing Michael Nylander along with Jaromir Jagr in the dying second. You could also ask yourself whether Fedor Tyutin made the biggest mistake of his young career by icing the puck in the dying seconds of the game. Michael Nylander's inability to win the faceoff, the Rangers getting caught with two players (Nylander and Dan Girardi) out of position when Lundqvist made the initial save, were yet more mistakes that ultimately culminated in a tied game.

But even then the Rangers had a chance to take the game. The Sabres' Chris Drury was called for a penalty just twenty seven seconds into the first overtime period and the visitors had an opportunity to wipe out the bad feelings of the previous minute. New York seldom threatened though on the power play, and finished 0 for 7 with the man advantage in the game. The mistakes continued when Blair Betts perhaps unnecessarily hooked Maxim Afinogenov to set up what would ultimately be the Sabres winning goal. Finally Jed Ortmeyer instinctive reached out to try and take an Afinogenov shot from the blueline and instead deflected the puck downwards slightly, just enough to beat Henrik Lundqvist and send the Rangers back to their lockerroom in need of some serious psychoanalysis.

To say the loss was stunning is an understatement. The way the Rangers lost last night may very well be devastating to a team that has been playing on the edge for the last three months and now must come home to New York in an attempt to keep the season alive. It also has the double edge of granting the Sabres a new life just when it appeared that Henrik Lundqvist had stolen Buffalo's will to live.

The series is of course not over, and if the Rangers can regroup tomorrow on home ice (where they've won nine straight games) then they could very well set up for an inspiring Game 7 which could go either way between these two teams. And as the Rangers have shown this season, where there's life, there's still a chance of doing some good things.

hey you guys had a great run...dont feel bad.

and that was damn classy of the crowd to cheer like that after it was over...and damn classy for the players to salute the crowd. I must say, as an Islander fan, I was pretty impressed.

here's to training camp being right around the corner....cheers.

sabres took advantage of our shoddy play today at home , in our house. clearly the more pressure was on the home team ( facing elimination )

luring us into their run and gun " style, to which we are just not equipped .

Rangers gave us alot to cheer for & alot to root for,.... Hopefully, they'll go even deeper next year.

The farm system will no doubt be dipped into , and who knows what happens after the free agency summertime .

I do hope Shanny returns for 1 more ( and his 20th season )
Avery is a restricted free agent also- I'd say this is another player whos gotta return .

1 more time for this season,.....
