  • I really hope Gardner is the full time CF in 2009. He just went from 1st to third on a ground ball to short that was booted, and scored on a fly ball hit about 30 feet behind SS. Give him a year batting 9th, and then he's the leadoff man. He'll steal 75 bases.

I like how they took out Jeter in the bottom of the 9th just now for some well deserved respect, that was cool.

(Then the shot of A-rod, still on the field ... ha.)

wow sportscenter leading with the pats loss.

i am shocked and disappointed, not because the pats lost, because yankee stadium deserved to be the lead off. classless move by SC.

Yeah but ESPN did a whole piece on Memories from Yankee Stadium and that was nice. I think it would've led SC if the Yanks were in first place or had a chance for the post season.

    Last night gave me chills

1st no postseason for me in 10 years

Bernie got what he deserved. Him, O'Neil,Jeter,Martinez,Cone,Brosius,Pettite,Rivera and countless others were a big part of my formative years.

Didn't go to the playoffs in '96, the parade was unreal. My favorite moment was Tino's Grandslam in '98 series vs. the Padres.I had good seats :D

I wish I were at the 2001 ws...the 3 games in the Bronx were insane...especially after 9/11.Too bad we lost that series

I have no doubt the new stadium will be broken in properly. Here's to a strong offseason with smart moves and letting some of the younger guys come up.

  • when they went to the mound after the game, it was funny with the derek jeter chant, he had to quickly tip his hat to acknowleget the crowd to silence them. again though, i do not see the facination with the closing of a 33 year old stadium.

you mean an 85 year old stadium that was renovated 33 years ago.

even if you only want to count the last 33 years, there have been a lot a special moments and big time players to play there. unlike that dump in queens..

  • still breathing, albeit barely, witha Cleveland victory over Boston.

By the way, money is no doubt a large part of why they're mmoving across the street. But don't forget---the place IS falling apart, literally. A few years ago, a 500 pound slab of concrete fell from the upper deck. If it happened during a game, people would have been killed. A friend recently took the stadium tour. There were puddles in the dugout, on a nice day. Phone wires ran roughshod all over the place. I'm not saying that they could not have continued to play at the current venue, but I think they had to either move, or do some massive upgrading
  • Anyone think Clemens and Torre should have been somewhat acknowledged during the last game ceremony? Apparently they are both hurt by the snub.

I can go either way on Clemens but I do think Torre should have gotten mentioned. The guy did win 4 WS. Hell,...almost all the guys from those 4 teams were there.

i was clinging to some small hope that LA would excuse both torre and mattingly and allow them to fly out to NY for the ceremonies.

clemens? i could go either way as well.

Did they do a thing for managers? I don't remember. If they did, then obviously Torre should be mentioned. But if they didn't mention Casey Stengel....As for Clemens, he was only here for 5 years. It's not like he was a career yankee, or they honored Wade Taylor and Scott Kamienicki and not Roger

It was for fear of boos. Otherwise he definitely should've been included. They didn't do anything for managers.

    Yankees are officially eliminated. :(

Now the only thing to root for are personal achievements. Mussina 1 more for 20 wins.

in a season full of highs and lows, would love to see the yanks end the season with a strong series in fenway, and get moose his 20th on the last game of the season.

i'm surprised they eclipsed the 85 win mark. seems like they played the season the same way they play a game: not there in the beginning, make a little noise in the middle, try hard as hell at the end, only to come up a tad short.

a fenway sweep to end the season would be nice. doubt it will happen, though. all i really would like to see is moose getting to 20.

  • Hooray the Yankees are eliminated! May the team return to the doldrums of the late 80's and early 90's!

Seriously though, you need to fire your GM. $200+ payroll and he can't put together a decent pitching staff?

I think Torre deserved an acknowledgment in the final home game, he was at the helm when they won those WS. But they were only 'officially' acknowledging players

as for Clemens... I'm not surprised. I don't believe he was 'heartbroken' I read he was 'clutching his wife's hand on one side and his mother in law's on the other' when he was watching it on TV! Come on! I don't buy that either.

Derek's speech was awesome. That's going to be an iconic moment. They'll show it when he retires. And that walk around the ball park was unbelieveable. I wished I was there!
