since im watching on TV didnt hear john sterlings call.
was it the usual a bomb call ?
they all came out of the dugout- a few hugged him as he crossed the plate- nice record for ARod- but theres talk of him hitting 900 homers in his career due to his young age - so this is just a stepping stone..
nice job alex .
also
YES showed the lucky fan who got / caught the 500th homer from A Riod . Security was escorting him----somehwere----
pretty safe to say this guy has now been upgraded to the VIP section of the stadium, no ? lucky SOB .
They played Sterling's call on the news, he did make the A-Bomb call and Suzyn managed to restrain herself and stay 'calm'
A-Rod said he wants the ball back, so 'hopefully we can negotiate something'! He'd have to offer twice what the guy can get on E-Bay before he can even consider it. I wouldn't even give that up for lifetime season tickets.
I have to say as much as I don't care for A-Rod, that moment gave me goose bumps, it was really amazing to see him hit it.

Nice job A-Rod. Hopefully he can calm down now and get back into the groove. That has to be a tremendous amount of pressure lifted. Missed the game because it was blacked out as usual here for FOX's Sat. afternoon game. Somebody tell me how the kid looked. I know he gave up a bunch, but how close was he to getting out of it?
Any predictions as to what happens when Giambi comes back? If they put him into the same role Duncan has now as a pinch hitter and spot starter then I think it will work out, but if they throw him out there as a DH 5 days a week then I think chaos will ensue. It will effect playing time for the guys who have brought this team back. Maybe I'm overlly paranoid about this.
whats funny is a-rod is going to shatter bonds' record.
thats why all the hooplah surrounding Bonds right now is comedic at best .

One of those guys you say you can't wait to get on a team other than the Yankees so you can root for him.
But, there are these instances:
The slapping of the ball vs Boston in the playoffs.
The "I got it" thing vs Toronto this year.
Standing and watching #500 like a jackass.
So to recap: A-Rod, while the best player in the game, is a bushleague douche. Kinda sad actually.
i'll give him the benefit of the doubt as it looked like it could have been fair or foul...but then he rounded the bases like it was the only hr he's ever hit. i could see if it was a walkoff AND his 500th, but seriously, bottom of the 1st against the royals. he should have just moonwalked over home plate while he was at it.
geez, act like you've been there 499 times before.

what's even more sad is that there are still people out there who linger on such inconsequential events as the incident in toronto.
honestly, the things people come up with to criticize a-rod about are absolutely astonishing at this point.
standing and watching like a jackass?
wow, that's a new one. i think you might be confusing him with manny ramirez.
he obviously thought it was going foul, just like the catcher, umpire, announcers, and camera crew did.
so aside from the fact that he's a yankee (which you've clearly indicated is the reason why you can't root for him), what exactly is the big deal?

hughes looked great in the first two innings, just like in texas. then he fell apart completely. he basically had nothing left from the third inning on. i was kinda worried that he might be injured or something. his fastball dropped to 88 MPH with poor location and his breaking ball was a complete non-factor.
what i suspect happened is that he was too pumped up early on and emptied the tank in the first two innings. the kid just turned 21. these things happen.
here's my prediction on what will happen when giambi comes back: duncan will get sent back to AAA and giambi will complain whenever he isn't in the lineup.
giambi is currently batting .125 at scranton (there's a game going on right now). but on a more positive note, here's joba chamberlain's line from yesterday:

This will surely ruin their nice streak here since the All-Star game. Duncan came in and gave a spark, everyone's been laughing on the bench the last week or so...Jason's gonna bungle everything up. God, I hope they just leave him at Scranton. I'll call it now, as soon as he gets called up, they'll lose five of seven and drop out of the race....

i agree, but what can they do?
they can only leave him at scranton if he's on the DL. if they keep a healthy player on the DL, the player's union will get involved.
average down to .111. i guess that makes him 1 for 9.

The 3 incidents of the last few seasons show his true character. He does things would get a little leaguer a spot on the bench for bad sportsmanship, period. I've defended him to ignorant Yankee fans that thought he sucked and couldn't wait to get rid of him. He is obviously not programmed for baseball etiquitte, but I wouldn't expect Yankee fans to know anything about etiquitte anyway.
The truth is that the robotic Yankee fans loathed him until this year, and now since he kept them afloat at the beginning of the season while Jeets and Co were floundering, he is a hero. Retards. Humiliation.
Regarding Joba, I can't wait to see this kid pitch in the majors. I wonder if this little stint pitching out of the bullpen might make them want to groom him into the closer of the future. I hope not. I have visions of him and Hughes anchoring the rotation for years.

ok, so you just don't like yankee fans then? alright. that's fine. not my problem at all.
if you re-read my post, you'll notice that i never said whether i liked or disliked a-rod. i'll reserve judgment on that until november 10th (his opt-out date).
the only opinion i have about a-rod right now is that he gets criticized way too heavily for things that nobody else would. and thank you, chevy, for continuing to strengthen my opinion with these types of posts.

and you obviously know nothing about spelling-it's "ETIQUETTE"
Yankee fans are some of the most well educated and knowledgeable people out there and there's no reason to resort to name calling, please go to the thread for the team you root for then,
And my ignorant, robotic ass has never liked A-Rod, from the moment we got him. But hitting 500 home runs, thus far cleanly until someone proves otherwise, is still an impressive moment in baseball history.

jeez a guy reaches one of baseball's historic milestones and someone can't say anything nice, especially when he didn't allegedly do what a certain san francisco giant did. whatever people's views on a-rod, 500 is still pretty damn impressive especially at his age.

Did you buy the game program? I would have.
What happened to the guy that caught it?
Wow. Good for A-Rod. It was a nice moment when everyone came out of the dugout.
I missed it 'live' but they just had the rebroadcast on, and it'll be on tomorrow am at 9. It'll probably become a 'Yankee Classic' too.
