if i had to guess, it'd have to be miguel cairo. they didn't acquire betemit to cut him and shelley duncan and andy phillips are playing well enough to stay here.

Giambi joing the team tomorrow. Could be activated.
Who are they gonna send down / part with????
activating giambi is just not a good idea. if i was a yankee fan i wouldn't want to mess with what they've got going now.
my guess is duncan goes down since he's essentially a DH and i would guess he has options. cairo is one of those jack of all trade players that you would want to keep around just in case something happened. betemit, while he COULD play most infield positions, is really a 3rd baseman.
weird that the yanks are dfa'ing mike myers. i can't believe it took them this long. he never seems to get any lefties out.
i went to the angels-red sox game tonight in anaheim. i counted at least 9 guys with yankees gear on harassing boston fans. its like they bought tickets just so they could abuse the chowder heads.

Life-long fan snags historic HR that may be worth 100G - but fears Yankee squeeze play

Alex Rodriguez's 500th home run ball landed in the hands of a life-long Yankee fan who emptied his bank account to buy his season tickets - and now could be in line for a six-figure payday.
Walter (Sonny) Kowalczyk, a graduate student from Trenton, was hiding out yesterday with his family as he tried to figure out what to do with the historic piece of cowhide that could be worth more than $100,000.
"He doesn't want to be robbed. There's a lot of wild people out there in New York," his older brother Brian Kowalczyk, 31, told the Daily News. "He's going to lie low for a few days, and then he's going to surface with it."
He claims Kowalczyk, 29, is already feeling squeezed by the Yankees, which he said hustled him into the bowels of Yankee Stadium and tried to get him to negotiate with a lawyer right away.
"The Yankees offered him a signed jersey, and he said no. The negotiations at Yankee Stadium were p--s-poor," Brian Kowalczyk said. "If A-Rod would have approached him, things would have been different."
Rodriguez said before yesterday afternoon's game he hadn't spoken to Kowalczyk but he really wants the ball.
"It's his ball. I think it's obvious that I would love to have the ball, but we'll see what happens," Rodriguez said. "I'm just going to let it sit for a few days."
Kowalczyk's proud father told The News yesterday his son was raised a Yankee fan.
"As a fan, he should offer it to A-Rod first. I believe that's what's going to happen," said his father, also named Walter Kowalczyk, who lives in Florida.
"I'm sure Sonny will do the right thing," he said.
A source said Kowalczyk was offered $10,000 for the ball when he was inside the Stadium, which is far lower than memorabilia experts say it could be worth.
"Alex wants the ball, but he's not going to give his left arm for it," said Jason Zillo, the Yankees' media relations director.
"I told [Kowalczyk] yesterday that obviously we'd give him a lot of things at our fingertips in the clubhouse," Zillo said. "If his favorite player is Roger Clemens, I think Roger Clemens would give him some stuff."
Kowalczyk grew up around Trenton, worked as a Mercer County, N.J., sheriff's officer for a while, then graduated from Indiana University last year.
He is now a graduate labor relations student at Rutgers, and wants to go to law school next year. On his MySpace page, he said he idolizes socialist heroes like Eugene Debs and enjoys "poking fun at conservatives."
"I am like a more intelligent version of Seinfeld, yet I can be all the characters in the show," he wrote. "I am an intellectual, or someone who does a great job pretending to be."
The Web page says he makes less than $30,000 a year - and his brother said Kowalczyk is ready for a lucky break.
"If he was doing well in life, he would give [the ball] to the Hall of Fame," Brian Kowalczyk said. "He spent all his money to have these Yankees season tickets. I was arguing with him for that. There's nothing I can say now."
Fans in the left-field seats said Kowalczyk was standing in the aisle when Rodriguez's blast fell into a thrashing scrum of fans - but the 6-foot-4, 230-pound former football player emerged from the brawl with the ball in hand.
Sports memorabilia experts advise Kowalczyk to sell quickly, in case the slugger's career takes a downturn.
"It's A-Rod, and people like A-Rod," said Victor Moreno, president of American Memorabilia of Las Vegas. "My advice is sell it right away."

I would have to disagree, I think it was a little cheap. When you slide to break-up a double-play, you legs should be on the ground, anything in the air is overly aggressive, hence, dirty. But it didn't amount to anything, although I think McDonald recognized what the situation was and let it fly.

no. he was trying to break up a double play. that was MUCH cleaner than when guys slide 5 feet wide of 2nd base trying to break up the DP.
do you think rail roading the catcher during a play at the plate is clean? if so, i don't see why you think sliding hard into 2nd is a problem.
I agree that sliding 5 feet wide of 2nd base trying to break up a DP is dirty and that sliding hard on the ground to break up the DP is fine, unfortunatly, in this instance, his leading leg into his slide was a foot off the ground and made contact with the SS glove/hand, so I don't think that fits the definition of clean. If he slides hard and hits the SS and the SS drops the ball - clean, if he goes in with his leg in the air and makes contact with the SS, not clean.
