I hope they keep Phil Hughes next start short so they could bring him back up next week.

alex rodriguez is one away from 500. i can only imagine how that a-bomb from a-rod call from john sterling will be when he hits 500.

    A-Rod's next HR could be # 500 or # 493

    Yanks may be shopping Damon

I thought Suzyn Waldman was a very good reporter when she was covering the Yanks for WFAN. I used to look forward to her reports because she always had good inside info. As an announcer, though, she is just horrible.

Those Joba Chamberlain stats were pretty sick for his first AAA start. 10 Ks in 5 IP!!!

    Igawa = Irabu ?

Tell me about it. It looks like he's going to do well. Then he blows it. Hughes can't come up any sooner. And that HBP on Alex was on purpose I think.

Igawa is way worse than Irabu. Irabu actually won 29 games in three-plus seasons. I'll always remember Steinbrenner calling him a fat pusy toad in spring training in 1999. That was comedy because I'm sure he meant a different pronounciaton of the second word..

Wow, you're right. He actually had a winning record while there. Its funny how perception can be changed by reputation. I remember the whole fat toad comment and didn't his driver hit George's car in the parking lot or something. He wasn't great by any means, but he wasn't nearly as bad as I "thought" I remembered.

Wondering if Chamberlain and maybe even Kenedy will see any bullpen time for the big club in The Bronx when rosters expand.

Igawa sent down to Triple A. Chris basak called up. And Yankees win suspended game. Which was almost thrown away by Jeter (couldn't complete DP). A-Rod did not homer.

I know, they need a win tomorrow. Their problem in the first half was for every win 11 outa 12 stretch they would follow it up with a lose 7 straight. Inconsistency has killed this team. Time to nip it in the bud.

Missed the game tonight. Went to see some minor league baseball down the road in Greensboro. Minor league baseball is always an interesting thing. Teams always have deals with sponsors and they sometimes hand out coupons, samples etc. on your way out. Tonight was one of the strangest examples of this that I have ever seen. I left the game with a free T-Shirt a couple of coupons for free waffles at Waffle House and (no joke) a full loaf of bread courtesy of Sarah Lee.

Wow, that's a long train ride! Sadly, a lot of those carolina pine trees that make our state so green are being cut down as things become more and more developed.

Hopefully this rain ends soon so the O's young pitching can continue dominating Yankees hitters. Goin for the sweep on the day Cal Ripken goes into the HOF.

something to really make fun of is the signing of Damon, and how much money did we give this guy ?

lord knows that age contributes to the center fielding , but what about the bat ?

    c'mon !

man on 1st and 2nd, no out, Yanks are mounting a comeback in the 9th , and what does he do ? of course,....

he grounds into a Double Play and there goes our momentum.

didnt know wheather or not to bring this to this thread,

or the " seinfeld " thread ( so i put it to both )

    todays NY Daily News

had a good piece in todays " Part 2 The Score " section by Bill Price
    Hot List

Yankee Traveling Secretary Dave Szen is in hot water as the IRS investigates his alleged failure to declare income. The Yankees have granted him "leave," but here are a few things George Costanza, the one-time assistant to the Traveling Secretary and best buddy of Jerry Seinfeld, got away with while working for the Bombers on "Seinfeld."

    1. Replaces polyester with cotton as the material for the Yankees' uniforms, which isn't a good fit.

    2. Wears an authentic Babe Ruth jersey taken from the Yankees Hall of Pride display case, then wipes his strawberry-stained hands on it.

    3. "Streaks" through a Yankees-Orioles game in a flesh-colored bodysuit.

    4. Ties a World Series trophy to the back of his car and drags it around the Yankee Stadium parking lot, yelling, through a bullhorn: "Attention, Steinbrenner and front-office morons! Your triumphs mean nothing. You all stink. You can sit on it, and rotate! This is George Costanza. I fear no reprisal. Extension 5-1-7-0."

    5. Sleeps under his desk.

Note: George does items 2-4 in an attempt to get himself fired, so that the Mets can offer him their job as their head of scouting, which he never gets.

Looks like he will get his return start for the Yanks Saturday against the Royals. Welcome back kid!

Damon for all his problems this season is hitting the ball very well right now. .345 over the last week with 7 runs scored and a pair of SBs. Gotta hope he keeps it up. This lineup is so much better when he is getting on base. Yanks denied a rumored trade of him to the O's. The rumor was Damon and Farnsworth for Corey Patterson, Danys Baez, and Steve Trachsel.

Giambi: 1 - 5 with a double and RBI in his first rehab stint, a double header Saturday at Class A Tampa

Tomorrow night the Yanks face their old friend Jose Contreras (unless he gets traded).

just had to throw this in real quick:

my mom was back in town yesterday, so she took me, my wife, and our kids out to eat. my oldest wanted to go to tully's (sports bar/restaurant), so that's where we went. when we were seated, they were just coming back to the game, bottom of the eighth, and i see that farnsworth is on the mound. i moan and my mom says "what's wrong?" i reply with "what's wrong? take a look at who's pitching, that's what's wrong." she doesn't follow the yanks like she used to, so she asks who it is and i tell her. i then tell her "look, he'll do one of the following: walk the lead off batter, or give up a home run." and what does this fool do? walks the lead off batter, strikes out the next batter, then gives up a 2 run homer. it never fails with this asswipe.

then, i really got into ribbing him. i see him in the dugout during the top of the ninth, and he's got his fucking arm all bandaged up with ice. what the fuck, dude? you pitch one inning every 3 games. your arm gets that sore that quick? seriously, he needs to go. i don't care, pay him what's left on his contract and just drop his sorry ass.

  • joba chamberlain has been moved to the bullpen at SWB so that he can become a RP for the yankees' stretch run:

    http://blog.nj.com/ledgeryankees/2007/07/chamberlain_moved_to_aaa_bullp.html

i have to say that i'm not 100% in love with this move. it's frightening when you consider how joe torre likes to abuse his bullpen arms.

i had a similar experience a few weeks ago while sitting in the cheap seats down the RF line.

torre brought farnsworth into a tie game. i turned to my friend and said, "he's gonna walk the leadoff batter, allow him to move to second when he throws away a pickoff attempt, and then let him score on an RBI double."

well, it turned out i was wrong.

he gave up a leadoff single with a 3-ball count, then threw away a pickoff attempt and gave up an RBI double.

    so i was 2 for 3.

luckily for him, melky tied the game on a balk in the 9th and robbie won it in the 10th. :D

EDIT: i suppose my hatred of farnsworth detracts from my position against moving joba.
