from the scranton newspaper blog about chamberlain's performance:
Joba Chamberlain just made his bullpen debut here in Rochester.
He came in to pitch the seventh inning and struck out the side. He hit 100 mph twice on both the stadium radar and the Yankees gun. He hit 99 at least three times maybe more, depending on the actual speeds of pitches that didn't register on the stadium gun. (I'm pretty sure he never threw a fastball 37 mph in his life).
Chamberlain threw 13 pitches, 10 of them for strikes. All three balls came to the first batter he faced.
Gil Velazquez struck out looking at a slider, a pitch that was setup by a 99 mph fastball.
Denard Span took two straight 99 mph strikes, then fouled off a pitch and finally struck out swinging at a breaking ball in the dirt. Looked like a curveball to me.
Matt Tolbert struck out on three straight fastballs, the fastest of which hit 97.
Chamberlain is scheduled to take a day off Tuesday, then pitch another inning Wednesday.
“This really wasn’t the test right now,” he said. “The test will come Wednesday when I come out and see how I feel. So this is a good start, and understand I’ve got a day off in between, but we’ll see how my body reacts and my arm reacts Wednesday.”

Looks like the yanks sent proctor to dogers for wilson beitimet.
I watched him play A ball a few times in myrtle beach and then saw him some when he was up with the braves. not a bad player. Can probalby pick up a first base glove and might even be an option at 3rd next year if we lose AROD.
I know he can play short i'm not sure about second but he is a great utility infield guy and might could be a good regular if given a shot.

Betemit is a great raw talent who hasn't quite put it together. He was starting to put up some numbers with Atl last year before they traded him to the Dodgers. He was once a prize prospect for the Braves. When they trade guys though, it tends to be a red flag for me. The Braves aren't perfect, but they tend to do a good job evaluating talent. Listening to Kevin Kenedy today say that while Betemit is a switch hitter, he is a terrible right handed hitter. Apparently he has done a pretty good job in pinch hit situations this year though and can play several positions. When do the rosters expand? Wondering where they will fit everyone in. Cairo???
Also heard the news about Joba pitching out of the bullpen. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I'm sure they will be carefull with him.
Gagne to the Sox. It may actually be better that he went there. I think the wild card is our main option at this point and both Cleveland and Detroit have very shaky closer situations that would have improved dramatically with Gagne closing. It also may put pressure on Papplebon who may start looking over his shoulder now.
8 Homeruns and none came from Alex. He hit it good a few times though. So hopefully tomorrow. I predicted that they were going to pinch hit Duncan and he would hit one out.

they took pictures of the wrong guy. hardly any flashbulbs for the eight home runs. the eight home runs tied a club record set June 28, 1939 at Philadelphia. Joe DiMaggio and Babe Dahlgren homered twice while Bill Dickey, Joe Gordon, George Selkirk, Tommy Henrich also connected.

NEW YORK -- If Derek Jeter is selected to just one more All-Star Game in his career, he's hoping that next year will be the year for it.
There's just one more season left before the Yankees officially pick up and move across the street in 2009, and Yankee Stadium is going out with a bang as the host of the 79th Midsummer Classic in July 2008.
Jeter, the Yankees' captain and an eight-time All-Star, is looking forward to seeing the stadium that's been his home for 11 years and counting hold the All-Star Game in its final year, whether he's on the field or not. Then again, he's got his fingers crossed that he is.
MLB.com: What does having Yankee Stadium as next year's All-Star Game site mean to you?
Derek Jeter: I think it goes without saying that the stadium deserves it. It's the last year. I think it's great that Major League Baseball is recognizing the last year at Yankee Stadium. It's a special year for it.
MLB.com: How would playing the game in New York change the experience?
Jeter: Hopefully I can go. I mean that's the biggest thing, you don't ever assume you're going to go to an All-Star Game. But like I've said before, if I don't play in another one for the rest of my career, that's the one I'd like to play in.
MLB.com: Were players talking about next year's site at the 2007 All-Star Game in San Francisco?
Jeter: A few players were talking about it. They were pretty much saying the same thing, that they hope they can go to New York and how crazy it might be here. It's going to be something special. Whether you're a Yankee or not, I'd have to say that every player would probably want to come and play here next year.
MLB.com: What is it like to know that next summer is the last time an All-Star Game can be played in The House that Ruth Built?
Jeter: I don't think it has really set in yet. I think next year it will probably set in more, especially when the new stadium is up and you can really see it. Right now it's kind of hard to imagine that this stadium's not going to be here anymore.
MLB.com: How would the opportunity to play next year's All-Star Game at home add to your memories at Yankee Stadium?
Jeter: I'm sure it would be memorable. You probably have a lot of feelings that go into it because all the memories you have and all the special moments here, that would just add to the list. If I'm lucky enough and fortunate enough, I'll have the chance to do that.

You have to love these home grown guys like Duncan.
Duncan has 5 dingers in 22 at bats.
Shane Spencer, eat my shit.
He [Spencer] quickly endeared himself to fans by hitting 10 home runs, including 3 grand slams in only 67 at bats -- a rate that would have been phenomenal even for an established star -- and won a surprise spot on the postseason roster.
I was at one of his first games, the second game of a doubleheader against Kansas City on August 7, 1998. The Yankees won 14-1 or something and he was 5-for-5.
