Wow Tavarez is a Yankee killer with 2 wins this year.

Why was the place half empty in the 9th inning?

It was only a 4 run game. You could hear a pin drop.

damn i can't wait till i head over to the states and check out a ballgame.
The atmosphere would be amazing. I've always wanted to experience it.
  • I think as Yanks fans we should have known from day 1 when Carl Pavano was the opening day starter that this was going to be a rough year.

As a diehard fan my problem with them is this. They are celebrities in pinstripes. Right now they show NO heart no excitment. They just don't seem to care. When they are down in a game you feel like thats it its over.
Unless they can turn this thing around its going to be a bittersweet year.
A revamping may not be a bad thing. Bring in fresh blood ...firery Joe Girardi. Weed out these old high paid guys (Mussina) and build around Hughes, Karstens, Wang, Cano, A-Rod, Jeter.
Because this ain't working. Right now we have a bunch of celebrities in baseball uniforms that we watch play. NOT a Ballteam.

    Jason Giambi failed test: report
    23/05/2007 3:42:25 PM

Embattled Yankees slugger Jason Giambi failed an amphetamines test within the last year, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

According to the tabloid newspaper, which did not cite any sources, Giambi is subjected to six additional tests for one year under Major League Baseball's amphetamines policy.

He declined comment before the Yankees' 7-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.

Wednesday's report, which came on the same day Giambi was summoned to the commissioner's office, is the latest development in the troubled slugger's saga.

In an interview in last Friday's editions of USA Today, Giambi appeared to tacitly admit to steroid use, saying, "I was wrong for doing that stuff."

The burly 36-year-old also suggested baseball should apologize for the performance-enhancing drug problems that have plagued the sport in recent years.

After Giambi's comments appeared, the Daily News reported the Yankees were looking into the possibility of voiding the remainder of the $120-million, seven-year contract Giambi signed in 2001.

    Giambi meets with MLB lawyers

The comments also drew the attention of MLB's lawyers, who met with Giambi on Wednesday to discuss them.

The meeting included Rob Manfred, baseball's executive vice-president for labour relations, senior vice-president Frank Coonelly and Howard Ganz, an outside lawyer.

Giambi brought along agent Arn Tellem, lawyer Brian O'Neill and Michael Weiner, who represented the players' association.

"The commissioner requested that Jason come in in response to the USA Today piece. Jason was interviewed this morning," Weiner confirmed.

A source familiar with what went on at the meeting told the Associated Press it only dealt with the remarks quoted in USA Today, and that Giambi's reported amphetamine-test failure was not discussed.

Baseball's management and players did not agree to ban steroids until late 2002. Testing with penalties did not begin until 2004.

An agreement was reached before the 2006 season to also ban amphetamines. An initial positive test subjects a player to counselling and six additional tests for one year.

Names of players who test positive for amphetamines for the first time are not made public.

bullpen gave up 20 runs in 22 innings of relief of Andy Petitte. And now Farnsworth gives up a homerun to Coco and is now 3-0 to Ortiz. Here we go again. They should leave andy the whole game next time.

I never understood why Pavano was so sought after that year. He had one good year (a walk year of course). The poster boy for a run of bad decisions made by the Yanks. They are slowly but surely ridding themselves of those guys thanks to some good moves by the front office lately and in this case natural selection. Giambi may be next. I read something the other day about the Angels being interested in him and of course the Yanks expressing interest in trying to void his contract because of the steroids and amphetamines.

The only people I can remember who applauded that deal were a couple Yankee homers. The logic of giving Pavano that contract was flawed to begin with since he was 29, just had his first good year(not counting seasons of less than 100 innings), and did it in a pitchers park.

I thought he would pitch in more games, but the level he has pitched at was predictable.
  • I'm a Yankee fan who was very much against the Pavano (and other NL East pitchers) signing... but I think what Smithnic means is that many other teams, not fans, wanted Pavano at the time. Remember Carl-A-Palooza? The Tigers, Red Sox and cardinals jump to mind as definate suitors, and there were others.
