but why isn't it ok? and why does it bother you so much what other people wear to work  I'd really like answers to these... but you can keep avoiding it.

I hope you're not spending too much time thinking about it when you should be doing your work

I did :) I'm just trying to understand the rest of you is all. I've said I understand the hotel thing... but I don't understand a lot of other companies.

well if i am just sitting in my office, doing computer work... yeah, i would love to be in jeans, but that is just not realistic for my company.

i once read an article, that explained the reasoning behind this. alot of companies didn't want their associates who sit at a computer all day (with no guest/client interaction) in casual attire (jeans and a shirt) because they feel the associate is going to become too comfortable, relaxed and mellowed out and not be as productive as someone who has to sit at a desk all day in an uncomfortable suit.

    eh, made me chuckle.

Thank you :) It's not like I've any work to be doing... so I will ;)

so it bothers you when people look like bums? :D:D:D ahhhhh, dear! See it's the norm here because there's no POINT dressing up cos you WILL get dirty. That makes perfect common sense... what doesn't make sense is why everyone dresses up in the professional world.

:D lol, that IS funny! I've worked in hotels before and did the dressing up thing... and yes, I have to say I FELT more professional cos I LOOKED more professional... but unfortunately I WASN'T more professional :D . I was just lazy with a professional attitude :)

I'm sure there's millions of construction workers who take umbridge with you classifying them as looking like "bums".
Wearing jeans and work boots as a safety precaution is not looking like a bum.

Many of them go to the pub afterwards in their workgear... people can generally tell the difference between a construction worker and a bum. Bum's (and that's a stupid term by the way) don't usually have concrete and dust all over them.

yes dirty ripped jeans and filthy boots make u look bumish ,, but in the construction world that the attire,, which is understandable

and when u role out of bed into them,, u probably smell like a bum also

no offense to the construction workers

Ooohh... I meant people working in hotels... I understand why they have to wear a uniform... so people can recognise them as staff... and hotels are all about appearances anyway! Whether it's the facade, the decor or the people staying there.

So yeh, I understand there is a difference in how a waitress should be presented compared to a lumberjack :D

It's similar for other professions. There is a 'professional' look.

You found people in Saskatoon wearing suits and dresses, as opposed to overalls and rubber boots. I am intrigued.

    lol so far from it

    u have no idea

shit im a bum out of work sweats and jeans t-shirts all the time

just in the professional workplace dress accordingly is all im saying
  • Jeans,a sweater, and sneakers...every day

People are such hypocrites and it's fun to watch them in action. When I go to one of my banks...they know me and offer me a bagel and a cup of joe...

When I go to open an account somewhere else it usually takes them a few minutes to bring around the bagels and joe.

But eventually they will... They always do;)
