A belief doesn't usually connote something that is fact, containing information, which one could be ignorant about. Ignorance as I'm sure you know, is a lack of knowledge about a particular subject. What knowledge do you suggest "pro-Choicers" are lacking?

No I'm saying that I'm sick and tired of the conversation, the laws, the whole issue being monopolized by men. And I'd say that nobody, male or female, knows what it's like to be an aborted foetus Ryan, because they aren't here to say. Bit like what happens after death if anything. You gotta be around to tell the tale.

Right, so, I'm not understanding. Why aren't women here debating it and if only men were debating it, how does that deprive us of an insight to what it's like to be an aborted fetus?

How can anyone have an insight into what it's like to be an aborted foetus when the definition of being aborted is that you're dead? Are you now telling me that the little foetuses are coming back to give us insight?

And women aren't here debating I'm quite sure, because they're reading Ryan. Reading the thread and knowing that they cannot speak up. Not all of them granted but I'd bet my bottom dollar that there are many reading this abortion thread like all the other abortion threads and sitting quietly on their hands saying nothing because they know not to speak up. They're going about their business, wishing we lived in a world where they could speak up about abortion without fear of being hounded or suffering retribution but that's not the world we live in is it?
So I'm simply saying that I'm tired of and completely and utterly bored out of my brain of always seeing this issue, discussed in public by men, protested in public by men, having the policy decided by men (and let's not pretend that it isn't) just in general I'm sick and tired of hearing from men on this issue. Cate's usually in here giving her POV. So are you, and Angelica occasionally. ForestBrain used to be around debating abortion a lot. And what saves men from being hounded? Men just like women are equally criticized when we share our opinions. So why the discontinuity?

I'm not criticizing you for sharing your opinion, I said it wasn't personal. I also said that I'm bored of hearing from men on the issue.

I'd like to hear from the women that read these threads and never speak up. Or the countless women out there that have had abortions and NEVER mention it again. I'd like to see WOMEN dictate the policy on abortions. I'd like to see WOMEN standing out the front of hospitals and medical centres hounding men with placards and nasty words, pushing and shoving the bastards and even throwing a bit of violence around if necessary for contributing to pregnancy AND abortion. I'd like to see WOMEN bail up out the front of church groups that insist of picketing clinics and harrass and harangue them on their way to worship. I'D LIKE TO SEE AND HEAR MORE FROM WOMEN and a whole lot less from men when it comes to ABORTION. That's all. I'm simply stating that I'm bored to tears about having a man's pov ANY man's pov on abortion even in my vicinity. I am allowed to be bored aren't I?

Ok, and what are you doing to increase the female participation?

Personally, any and all views are warranted. I'd prefer that they are well informed opinions, however. But, I'm not making this distinction between men and women. And I don't acknolwedge this "Man's view" as I see a lot of discontinuity in male opinions on the matter. Even if this is an all male debate, which I'm not sure it is, then women have support for both positions here. Your statements, and the title of this thread, imply something I questioned early; are there no women that are anti-Abortion? If I recall correctly, Forestbrain is a woman and anti-Abortion. Then, how can it be justifiably called a "War on Women" and it appears that it isn't a simple split of "Men against Abortion" and "Women for Abortion". If you could, explain to me what fundamental difference in men and women makes a woman's perspective more valid, and why?

True, there are women who are anti abortion, but it is undoubtedly men who will push it over the percentage to make it illegal once again. It is a woman who will have to carry that baby to term and deal with it once it is born, not the man. That is the reason that men should not have the last say in the matter. If the man is around I would argue that they do have a say most of the time. I also totally agree that if men were the ones who became pregnant that abortion would be a birthright. Not a doubt in my mind about that. :)

Are you sure it wouldn't just be women tipping the scales against abortion if it was men who had to bear the child?

Why is it the woman who has to care for the child when it is born?

Why can't men be sympathetic for women who bear children?

I'm reminded of the old argument
"You can't know what it's like to be a parent, unless you have children."

    This argument is used when discussing parenting. My rebuttal is;
"Everyone knows what it is like to be a child."

In this case, no one knows what it is like to be an aborted fetus, and that's really the issue here. The argument "you have to be a woman" seems to take the emphasis off the child and place it on the womb. I have no doubt, the womb and the woman who it belongs to are important parts of this equation, but what of the actual fetus?

Well to start with I'm going to stop engaging you on the issue. :)
Hopefully this would encourage more women to feel comfortable enough to come forward and discuss it.
There are definitely women that are anti abortion, you only have to look at the fearless leader of the Right to Life movement here in Australia the right honorable and irritating Margaret Tighe. Too bloody old for it to be affecting her anyway.
Surely I don't have to explain basic biology to you regarding why a woman's pov on the issue of abortion is more valid. It's a surgical procedure that doesn't happen to men. So a women's pov is more valid. Just as a man's pov is more valid when it comes to prostate examinations and surgery.

You might be right. I think a good thing would be for everyone to have to wear a "fake" pregnancy thing around for 9 months and have hormone injections and then see how they feel. :)

There is no true argument to this other than medical hypotheses. I don't think a fetus has feelings, you might disagree. My vote goes to the woman that I know for a fact does have feelings. :)

I actually know what it's like to be a parent and I'm not one. I understand it completely. There is no greater task than parenting, no manual, no instructions. The pressures are great with caring for another individual, especially one who is not developed and self-sufficient. But the rewards can be great too. I can feel it in my fundamental nature and I've been subjected to it my entire life, I've been on the receiving end of it. It's fascinating how chaotic the whole situation can be. But I also understand the history of parenting. What has been tried, what results come from which methods. It appears the best methods are largely what you expect should happen, but various influences often interfere with what is probably natural. Everything belongs to a much larger system, the child interaction with the primary caregivers, the immediate family, extended family, community, society, culture, the entire world, the solar system, the galaxy, the universe. It all plays a role all the time. It can be overwhelming. Anyway, the argument "you don't know what it's like to be me" should have some kind of criteria for defining what that actually applies to. Especially concerning matters of public policy, and where there is doubt concerning the importance it has for the subject.

The point is that in order for us to have a democratic society we need to all be able to speak our views. If it was only concerning your life then it wouldn't be such a big issue. This involves what is conceivably a separate life, though that is a matter of dispute. My perspective has nothing to do with this. I support the procedure of abortion up to the third trimester. It's based on biology and an egalitarian perspective. If the fetus can be deemed a viable human being with a fully functional central nervous system, than it deserves a chance at life. Before that, I don't suspect that it's really cognizant enough to worry about it suffering or having a soul. But again, those are matters of the abortion debate. If we could stop saying "you don't know what it's like to be me" then we might get somewhere. Probably not, but it'd be a start.

i have nothing else to say on the issue of abortion and the continued patriarchal oppression of women's rights when it comes to this issue. for me only one person is ever in a position to decide what someone should do with their body. so long as they aren't non compus mentis then that's the end of it as far as i'm concerned.

sorry i can't help myself. that is such bullshit ryan. the 'real' issue here is men trying to own women by telling them what they can and can't do with THEIR OWN BODIES. this is the one thing trully beyond men's control and they can't stand it. THAT'S THE REAL ISSUE. so they pass legislation to wrest back the control that they never had in the first place.and never will. if ever i was faced with the decision again to abort a foetus, the issue would start and end with me. this is MY life no one else's.

You do have a point. Although I was just using that term because it's used against anti-abortionists and Southerners. I suppose they are using it incorrectly too.

sorry i can't help myself. that is such bullshit ryan. the 'real' issue here is men trying to own women by telling them what they can and can't do with THEIR OWN BODIES. this is the one thing trully beyond men's control and they can't stand it. THAT'S THE REAL ISSUE. so they pass legislation to wrest back the control that they never had in the first place.and never will. if ever i was faced with the decision again to abort a foetus, the issue would start and end with me. this is MY life no one else's.

well, if it's all a woman's choice, they should have never gotten preggers in the 1st place. there are ways to prevent it you know.....

i think the real issue is murder
