I've not read any of this thread. I'm just thinking about what some people are apparently worried about, so have some thoughts and questions:
Do Americans now really expect that millions of people will be deported and/or gathered up into some kind of holding facilities before they are shipped out? That seems like a pretty crazy idea... I'm wondering how realistic that is? I mean, if that happens, it is literally like Nazi Germany before WWII. Surely it can't come to that? If so ,what are American going to do about it? If not, wtf does Trump think he's going to do to meet expectation? I just don't understand what he actually intends to do.....

Can we stop comparing finding and removing people that entered a country illegally to Nazi germany please.

if you can’t see the big difference there, don’t know what to tell you. The over sensationalizing of things like this has gotten out of control.

Now - if this operation involves rounding up Hispanics regardless of status …. Well then, you have made a good comparison.
What has always bothered me about the talk from trump has been the actions of his supporters. The Hispanics get targeted, Haitians, etc.

I realize that Hispanics likely make up the majority of the "illegals" but the random white guy walking down the street could be an illegal from Canada, Russia, 40 other countries, etc.
Here in NYC I know a lot of people who are here illegally from England, Ireland, and Canada. I know two people who got deported back to Ireland. But most have been here for years and years and no one bothers them.
Yup I get it and it should be the same.  Are they living in free housing or the tent city?  Are they collecting $1000/month credit card?

Sometimes you can make yourself invisible.

My personal thoughts are that no one should get deported. If people go through all that trouble to leave their home countries for a better life, then we should help them. Things must have been terrible for them to leave their homes and I think about how hard that must have been. If we only want people here who are legal immigrants than make them legal without their jumping through so many hoops.

Many of you may find my thoughts idealistic or even ignorant. But this is how I feel.

The making money part was a big deal and talking point years ago.  People come and make all this money then leave with it.  That point of view has all stopped now.

This was great when we had the room and there were tons of opportunities.  Now we have programs and assistance that costs people money.

You can work and live in the NYC area by just delivering food as long as you have assistance.  There is no way a person can maintain and live by doing that anymore without assistance.  Living with 10 people in a house I'd consider assistance too.

It hasn't actually. They still do it around me at least. Check out any Mexican grocery store advertising the wiring service in their windows. They send money back to Mexico weekly. Nice commissions on those wires.

Hey, why don't you just use a landline for all your calls too? Don't need a cell phone, bring back pay phones if you need to make a call outside your house.

My point is, we aren't going back...except when it comes to a narcissistic ass hat being elected again for no good reason.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Things must have been terrible for them to leave their homes and I think about how hard that must have been. If we only want people here who are legal immigrants than make them legal without their jumping through so many hoops.

Many of you may find my thoughts idealistic or even ignorant. But this is how I feel.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

I understand what you are saying. But then who is going to deliver food?

lol. go get it yourself perhaps?  A pizza and Chinese food should be delivered.  Always has.  Mcdonalds or Subway, even diner food?  No...

Nice thing about the city and where I live?  I can walk to everything.
I always go pick my food myself. I rarely get delivery. But that is not the point :)

I don't find it ignorant....I just really disagree.  I'm sure the better answer lies somewhere in the middle.

And Emma Lazarus was never in charge of immigration. ;)

I am not real clear on the exact rules but I know that a few clients I have that are Hispanic restaurant owners do go back to Mexico annually for a certain amount of time as part of their requirement.

I know they have family that come up illegally but I have been told that most of them are just making enough money to buy a house back in Mexico and they plan on returning. They can make so much more up here in a shorter amount of time. That is what is so sad about the deportation talk. These are good people with families and then don't want to be separated from their family so they all come up illegally.

The restaurant owner is an American citizen...has been for 20 years. He still gets harassed occasionally with the "go back where you belong" comments.
The making money part was a big deal and talking point years ago.  People come and make all this money then leave with it.  That point of view has all stopped now.
It hasn't actually. They still do it around me at least. Check out any Mexican grocery store advertising the wiring service in their windows. They send money back to Mexico weekly. Nice commissions on those wires.
Not what I said.  I know it still goes on, the focal point of complaining about the money going back has all stopped now.  "That point of view has all stopped now"
ok...I've never heard of any complaints related to people wiring money I guess.
Really?  This was a huge talking point for the right for years.  No big deal.

Hey, why don't you just use a landline for all your calls too? Don't need a cell phone, bring back pay phones if you need to make a call outside your house.

My point is, we aren't going back...except when it comes to a narcissistic ass hat being elected again for no good reason.
OK ill change my answer to a delivery service then.  make the progression right?  Unionize them so they get paid well and maybe a living wage.

Yes lets move forward.  I get we aren't going back.  My point was stop being so lazy with everything and you cant survive being a delivery guy.  We are becoming Wall-E.

I live in Texas, a state that has been run by republicans for 30 years. Half of that was with a republican president and eight of those years were with a republican president from Texas. In all that time nothing has been done about the border. Why? Because the economy in this state and many others would collapse without cheap labor. They don’t want to solve it, they just want to bitch about it for election purposes. They could fine every company using illegal labor if they wanted to but they don’t because they’d lose cheap workers.

This is interesting because is the reference that illegal immigrants are eventually going to slaughter us and take our land if we don't keep them out or is it the irony that when we immigrated here we weren't treated the way that Trump is threatening to treat current illegal immigrants by building walls to keep them out?
It could be taken in a variety of ways I suppose.  I look at it as Native Americans in hindsight probably wish they were a lot tougher on immigration.  But once a country realizes it handled immigration wrong, it is probably too late.

Exactly this I wanna see how all these fuck face voters who run small businesses feel once their labor pool is drained and they have to do work! When I see the landscaping trucks coming they are driving by immigrants not the dude who owns the company he’s probably on the beach or golf course all he does is collect the $$ and pay his crew 50-75$ a day , same with roofing company or tree service companies! That’s my observation here on Long Island I’ve talked to a lot of immigrants they are good people I know there’s some bad apples but most just want to work to survive and feed their families!

Agree with this but let’s not downplay what it takes to start, own and operate any successful business. It’s a lot harder than collecting money on a golf course. Trust me.

What you guys fail to understand is that the old GOP is dead.  The Bush’s, Cheney’s have been rejected by MAGA.  We’re now the party of strong borders, no more war and the working class.

Again, Trump wanted to know if he could nuke North Korea and blame it on another country.
Again, strong borders won't help a garbage nation having the official stance that "climate change isn't real"
Again, Joe Biden fought inflation stronger than most other western democracies while Trumps taxbreaks and tariffs favoures the rich. Inflation and tariffs punishes the working class the most. Taxcuts for the rich do not help the working class the most.

I understand there is nothing in your head to stop these kind of statements and therefore it is impossible for you to reflect.
And I'm also fairly certain you do not vote "MAGA" because of strong borders, no wars or the working class. You are doing it because of other things.

  • Let’s try something new.  You guys make a list of all the things you are afraid that Trump will do and post here or start a new thread.  Then let’s revisit your lists every 6 months to see if your fears actually come to fruition.  I believe the results may be eye opening.  This isn’t a gotcha moment either, but just an honest exercise.

Let’s do this, since you’re crowing, quarterly reports on interest rates, unemployment, the Dow, inflation rate, cost of a gallon of gas and US boots on the ground or the MIC contractors #s/deaths. You know, all the reasons you POOTWH voters claim as the reason(s) for pulling the lever. 88.

Trust me.
I understand that! But once a landscaper has his clients he just sends the crews out to do the labor ! Yes he/she still has to do the billing the buying of maintenance equipment.
jesus greets me looks just like me ....

Speaking of small businesses, record number of new small business applications under the Brandon administration. Here’s a new marker, number of new small business applications by quarter. Let’s see how POOTWH stacks up.
