There is no quarrel. This is just a discussion. Sure, it's great that everyone stands up for their rights and I will support everyone who does so. BUT there is also a point when it goes so far... and if you're the person who's complaining about segregation, then please do not come up with organisations or titles that segregate you even further. It's not just up to the MAJORITY to integrate.... THAT'S the important part.

....Or a channel like Telamundo for Hispanics, it's just simply their niche audience. He appears to only target the black audience. Was there ever a problem when there was hardly ever a black face on network television or would you rather we go back to those times?

I live on a South London estate which has a largely black majority, so yes. Why?

ps, don't say they aren't a minority then, it's this area specifically. The borough I live in is still 65% white.

oh, and as to how she is wrong, I just find the notion that black people are now on an even footing to be kind of funny. It's funny to see how the ratio changes here in London with a simple bus ride north of the river.

I have cut back on the pc stuff Helen.
But I don't see the problem seeing as it is not affecting anyone's way of life to have an awards show strictly for music of black origin.
And if people think that it is a level playing field for everyone in this country, then they have their head shoved up where the sun don't shine.

I can't speak for acoustic guy but I can tell you that signs which popped up in Irish companies over the past couple of years advertising that they're hiring IN POLISH bother me. I've no problem with people integrating... and sharing cultures... no matter where they're from. BUT when minorities are priority above the majority that is NOT gonna end well. For the record, I'm blaming the government, not the immigrants... but they're only asking for trouble by doing this.

What about the white niche market?

Maybe you don't get them in America then. Here on satellite TV there are Chinese channels, asian channels, afro-carribbean channels filmed IN the UK for those in the population that fit into those ethnicities.

I do NOT feel discriminated against that there isn't an equivalent that is aimed specifically at white British people.

As for your final comment, I don't think you understand my point about niche markets.

Oh don't get me wrong, I know what wrongs have been done... and I know there's a long way to go to rectify those wrongs and for people to TRULY be equal... but you're never gonna achieve equality by segregating YOURSELF... whether you're the minority or the majority!

No they don't. The point I am making is that the black people in America (not all) are very quick to call a white man racist because we do something that is revolved around white people. But if the rolls are reversed its okay. I think that is racist as hell. I would not have a problem with BET if we had a WET. I don't even need the actual channel, but I want it to be okay if their was one.

But that is not what this thread is about.
We are talking about whether or not people feel it is racist to have awards shows just for black people.

I don't disagree with you in any way, or your argument. I was addressing acoustic guy specifically. His responses in this thread are rather less balanced than yours and I was curious to know the answer to the question I asked him.

Those channels do not offend me. Again in America if its a white thing its racist. If its a black thing its okay. Thats not right.

I mean, I do, but where has someone wanted to start an awards show just for white people?

And by level playing field I mean wma is going to get the job before bma or even wfa 9x out of 10.

in acoustic guys defense I pick and choose my words very carefully in threads like this cos I know how easily people read between the words and the lines... (and that's even takin into account that I called a spade a spade ) but I think he's just treating it like every other thread where you say what you think and forget that people are gonna take every word at face value! There are issues on national AND local levels everywhere that SHOULD be discussed rather than letting them get into a big issue which, I believe, is more likely to make people racist.

Not really. I have no personal problem with you and I don't think your views are particularly dangerous, just alien to me. If you had a large following, astounding oratorical skills and a megaphone then I might feel a bit uneasy. At the moment, we're just having a discussion. No burning being called for here.
