I must agree about the Peter Norman story - very sad that he was forgotten and ignored like that. Black people didn't do that though, from what I understand it was the racist Aussies who chose to ignore him because they didn't like his support of the black guys on the podium.
However, I don't agree that the Mobos are about segregation as it has often been claimed on this thread. It's not a black power type award, just something to help celebrate and value black music of whatever type.
No-one complains about other music awards such as country music awards etc, which are naturally mostly white. But if they can have theirs, why can't blacks?
My point is that if there was MOWO no-doubt it would be held exclusively for white people. There'll be a ton of objections if a black person won anything there, even if a black person was involved in say, a white form of music such as indie rock. I expect there'll even be some whites who would even have a problem with a person of mixed race origin winning anything in a MOWO.
However, there have been MANY white, mixed and non-black artists that have been both nominated or won a MOBO (see list below) so it's not exclusively for black-skinned people - it's just about honouring their wide-ranging musical cultural heritage - there is a big difference there if you choose to think about it.

no one said anything about Blacks denying norman his dues. in fact those of us who have made comment on that incident have been in support of the Black stance that day. and i do believe we also shared our thoughts on the australian olympic committee ignoring norman.
im not excusing the actions of the australian olympic committee for their ostracizing norman because of his stance and denying him a place in the munich olympic team despite him qualifying for 2 events on at least 15 occasions, and their disgraceful actions during the 2000 olympics, but please do not blanket comment by saying "the racist aussies". be specific and aim your disgust at the appropriate persons. which in this case is the australian olympic commitee and the australian government.

i just want Univision to offer and ENG setting on my tv so i can watch Sabado Gigante in English. The SAP setting lets you watch anything in Spanish so why not do the opposite. This is the kind of stuff that bugs me. Viva equality.
