The fact that the world chooses to base its opinion of america on a few people pulled off the street is what is sad and frightening.

this is why patriotism should be earned, not expected.

you live here. you know it's not just a few people. and it's not like any of these people are mentally impaired. it's just pure ignorance.

Let me tell a little story about something I experienced the other day.

My boss is arab. He is not even american-born arab. He grew up in an arab country and moved here in recent to earn an advanced degree in finance. Now he's a financial analyst.

Anywho, so the guy grew up in an arab country that I won't mention. He's got family in arab politics.

He doesn't even know the difference between a shah and an ayatollah. I'm not even kidding. We were having a conversation about Iran and he did not know this.

Hmmm...so I guess I am now to assume that everyone from his country doesn't know the difference either. Mind you, he is educated and has family in arab politics. lol....stupid non-americans.

    OK... I agree.

I take "stupid americans" to mean unlearned, not in the other sense, which is lacking in mental power.

Thank you. I think a more appropriate title for this thread would have been "Uninformed and statistically insignificant Americans."

unless of coure they are voters, that would make them statisically significant. an uninformed voter is a very dangerous thing.

You do realize that show is going for laughs, right?

You don't even know what questions they were asking those people.

Sounded to me that the questions were clearly overdubbed.

Either way, I find it hilarious you take that show and their skit so serious.

Yup. It would not be difficult to make this video in any country. This video wasn't very surprising. Leno does this stuff every week.

you cannot say whether or not these people are mentally impaired...the fact is that the citizens of this country elected george w. bush to the presidency...not once, but twice. you can say it was stolen or whatever...but, it shouldn't have been close enough for it to be stolen. so, i surmise that you are correct and it's not just a few people...the majority of america is stupid...i will go as far as saying that 98% of the world population is stupid and/or ignorant.

I don't know if they're statistically significant but I completely agree about their danger. Which is why I'd love to see a literacy test be a requirement for voting, and why I hate to see "get out the vote" campaigns. People who are aware of issues and informed already know how register and when/where to vote. Why encourage everyone else?

  • The same thing would've happened if they'd gone to Britain and interviewed a bunch of pikeys. I wouldn't worry about it.

I was all for Bush's re-election. This is because the dems didn't have a clue as to do with Iraq -only that our troops need to get out of there. I don't think the situation is really as simple as lets get the troops home. I wouldn't want to see someone who thinks it's that simple get elected.

Listening to Kerry talk is like watching a dog chase its own tail. He's a lot of blah blah blah and no real convictions in regards to what really needs to be done. Hillary is even scarier. The other day she pullled the "Saddam gassed his own people" line of rhetoric.

So, what it all boils down to is partisan politics on the part of anyone who had a chance of replacing bush, and I don't think it's wise to put the future of Iraq and the troops in the hands of partisan politics. The dems repeat the phrase "exit strategy", but only for the sake of appearing to have a solution when, in fact, they don't. That's even more dangerous than not having an exit strategy.

And we all know what will happen if the troops pull out prematurely. There will be genocide. It will be a sunni/shiite/kurd killing field and I guarantee you the first fingers that will be doing the pointing will be the dems'. They will say, "Bush should've told us Iraq needed our protection."

I admit that his first election was poor judgment on the part of americans, but his re-election was not.

Have you watched all parts? Because the questions don't seem dubbed at all.

But who knows they might have asked 50 people before they found someone who gave a stupid answer. But I do remember this survey that asked a bunch of questions to school children of several western countries and the US didn't score to good.

Anyway, that people can't answers these questions is very sad, doesn't matter what country they are from, imo.

Isn't that on all the matters? They always go to shopping centers or downtown areas and pick, imo, the not too clever persons to interview.

I would also add that the 2nd biggest problem is people taking comedy too seriously.

The way it supposedly works is that each person has their own natural aptitudes, and apparently possesses one or two areas where they excel over thousands of others.

I personally have a high aptitude in psychological or interpersonal issues, and yet I know very little about politics. Not only am I quite politically ignorant, but when I try to learn things politically, it goes in one ear and out the other. This means it does not stick with the way I'm naturally wired.
Am I stupid and or ignorant? Maybe I am.

The Canadian version of this is hysterical--that is if you know enough about Canada to get the jokes. "Talking With Americans" http://youtube.com/watch?v=seYUbVa7L7w

Although it's still really clear that they don't have any reason to present the people who know the answers. These shows are obviously edited for comedic value.
