Cyber bullying

Just did a quick google on cyber bullying and the majority of sites are pertaining to children.

However, it seems that cyber bullying isn't just the domain of children against other children or adults against children but also seems to be alive and well adult against adult.

Having read through the wiki and a few other articles I was thinking that we appear to have some of the behaviours listed going on here on PJ and I was wondering what the rest of you thought about it?

Do you think it happens here on PJ?

Do you think it happens more on one forum than the others?

Have you been subject to it?

Have you found yourself doing it?

What do you think we can do to eradicate it?
NOPE!!!

There isn't a specific itemized list of behaviours but there are behaviors listed in the article.

im just guessing i do. but since i dont know what behaviors qualify as bullying, i cant say for sure. i think nothing of it. who cares?

Well if you don't care then why come to the thread in the first place?

If you're not interested in the topic I'd like to discuss then why not find something else to do?

curiosity. im up for discussing it. i meant i dont care in the sense that i dont see what anything i do here matters to anyone else. so im curious about cyber bullying and what the big deal is.

The bullies here tend to form cliques, get overconfident, and then get banned.

I never said it was a big deal. I was simple posing some questions about it.
    Looking for clarification.

So are you saying you don't think that what you do here has ANY impact on anyone else?

Do you think that's consistent though Fins?

I mean I see that happening sometimes but I don't think it's always the case.

Well it's all pretty much there in the document but not in point form so I dunno how else to clarify it for you without having to pretty much type the relevant bits out and I can't be stuffed. The idea was that you'd read it and form your own opinions anyway.

So if you feel that no one cares what you have to say, why post in the first place?

I know I've offended a couple of people on here over the course of my "pit life", but it has never been intentional. I'm new to this whole forum thing, and definitely post without thinking it over most of the time.:) I don't see any bullying going on here though... maybe people are doing it in pms, but from what I see it's pretty tame.

I grew up with a very sarcastic father though... so I can pretty much take anything that is thrown at me:D

    I've never met a cyber-bully that I couldn't whup.

The truth be told, I don't know exactly what adult-on-adult cyberbullying might be. There are the trolls and the malcontents who do their share of verbal posturing, but I don't think they amount to much. I guess the worst case scenario is when someone has it in for you and follows your every post with a derogatory, or generally annoying, reply. Fuck 'em. Put 'em on ignore.

Do you visit all the forums Trailer?

And when you have offended someone have you attempted to rectify the situation?

I pretty much stay in AET... while wandering over here, other music, and the porch every once in a while.

Of course I tried to rectify the situation.. I'm a nice guy;).... but they seemed like they wanted to keep up their defense and prolong the issue, so I got over it and can care less what they think now

Now that's sounding more like what I was thinking of gue.

Do you consider someone that follows someone else around the board consistently being derogatory and annoying to a particular individual bullying?

And I'm really glad you mentioned the ignore button because that would only remove from view the post from the person on ignore, it wouldn't stop you seeing what they had to say if anyone subsequently quoted them. So I'm not sure that it's an effective tool. What do you think?

I think the ignore feature works. I also think the regular posters here have elevated their game quite a bit over the past year, so you don't get near as many quotes in a thread of someone you may have on ignore as used to be the case.

So do you think there is more potential for argument or nastiness in one forum over another? Do you consider think where you have experienced this that it is more likely to happen in one forum over another?

Well I figured you did! :D I'm well aware of your Nice Guy status! ;)
But when it continued beyond what you could be bothered with you walked away from the conversation and avoid them entirely now? Or continue to discuss other things on other threads with them?

oh. ok. Do you mean that if someone is offensive that other regular posters are less likely to quote them now or respond than they would have in the past?
Coz if that's the case then the ignore button would be more appealing.

This is what I was thinking gue. I think with adults it is mainly trolling, trying to push buttons, inflame and irritate. I'm not sure that is bullying unless they target a particular poster.
