Ah, I reckon he did pretty good for a duck. Not perfect, I'll grant you, but Oz has been a lot more stable under him than it had been for a damn long time. No recession we had to have, no union stupidity, heaps of employment, bludgers off the dole, but welfare still very strong etc.
Wall to wall Labor bothers me, and Coalition state govts bother me too, cos that'll be the next change people vote for. We had the perfect system before, Conservatives in Canberra to make the country rich, and Labor in the states to spend the wealth, and a bit of balance all round.
The track record of Federal Labor and State Coalition governments is bloody woeful, but that is what we are headed for.
You never has to tolerate the Bjelkie-Petersen years, with the rapant corruption and pocket-lining.
Anyhoo, it what it is now, so I'll stay liquid and keep me powder dry.

Yeah, I realize that a lot of people liked and supported him. I've just never been a fan. Tis cool. We can't all like him now can we? :)
I'm not looking forward to a bunch of bullshit carry on from the unions. If I thought for one minute they were actually upholding the fair and reasonable principles they were founded on I might be able to muster a bit more support but they've just become a giant bloody bully boy organization.
And I can't say that I'm all that thrilled about the idea of wall to wall labour governments either. BUT I truly do not want to have to live here in victoria under a Baillieu silvertail government. It would be worse than being Jeffed and I gotta say those were some of the worst years to be a working joe here in Vic when Jeff was ruling us all with his iron fist. Especially in health.
I think that's why I'm over our current government system to be honest luce. It really makes no sense to me. We should have the best people, with the best qualifications in these jobs. Not who ever managed to bend over, do behind the scenes deals and generally win a popularity contest on a whole bunch of platforms that they probably won't follow through on anyway.
Seems to me they're all lining their pockets these days. It would be nice if they could spend a bit of time doing service and representing all of us on the world stage to the best of their ability. Of course that's just a pipe dream but I'll never not want that.
    NOPE!!!

downer as an opposition leader would have success akin to that of latham and beazley. so im glad hes not contesting.

Well for starters Peter Garrett is his Minister for the Enviroment.

Kevin's first order of business is to ratify the Kyoto Agreement.

Number two is too bring the troops home from Iraq. Meaning he won't be replacing the current troops once they finish their Tour of Duty in about May-June 08 I think.

    A few points of interest:

John Howard has all but lost his seat of Bennelong.

The Greens increased there primary vote.

The Democrats(the australian democrats were once the balance of power in the senate) were all but wiped off the political map.

yes! ... that's what i'm talking about!! ... hopefully, we will see a similar change here!

Dunno about that. I'm still trying not to grit my teeth EVERYTIME Jeff Kennett ex politician hops on the tele sprouting about depression in his new position as Director of Beyond Blue the depression initiative. I mean the irony, and sheer offensiveness of it just makes my blood boil.
