    What a strange feeling. :o

First time in a long time I've come away from an election without feeling a deep deep dread and being teary.

But I can hardly say I'm leaping out of my skin with elation either.

This is just the beginning of a long race as far as I can see. I just hope that the promises made are promises kept and this country will finally get on track, and be a true representation of its people.
    NOPE!!!

    Hi all

Interesting weekend, we should actually ban scare campaigns as dumb people seem to fall for them.

    My examples:

Scare 1. Back in 2004, when Johnny said IR would stay low, downside of a good economy is a rise in IR, but its not like he puts them up, so how can you promise to keep them down?

Scare 2. K-Rudd: Rolling back Workchoices. The big clincher in my opinion. Why couldnt Johnny introduce them earlier than he did? Because he didnt have control of the senate. If Labor doesnt get control of the Senate, he cant roll shit back. He'll just say, 'Oh well, I wanted to, but the Senate wont let me.' So pretty much his main policy would be unimplementable (is that a word?)

Scare 3. Libs claiming IR would go back up under Labor. Proof? hehe All dependent on the economy, and K-Rudd claims to be some sort of economic conservative, so we will wait to see what happens.

Anywayz, IR have usually gone up as a result of petrol prices, in which oil has hit record levels of over $100 a barrell. Fix those home loans people!!

There's probably others, but they are the main ones...

Oh yeah "WE'RE COMING BACK!" always laughed at that ad hehe

By the way, the Labor ad:

    "Nuuuuurse.... Nuuuuuurse"

    Is now my ringtone!! hehe

Really amusing as some of my work is in aged care, and when the phone rings the nurses look up, trying to find the resident calling out, its a pisser hehe

yes but doesn't the term politician mean so many different things to so many people? :)

to me they are a representative of their constituents and should behave accordingly. their job being to best represent those who elected them. of course I'm well aware that they don't see it that way anymore, but I guess I can dream can't I? :)

    Dat's funny !!
There used to be an old demented duck down teh back of a medical ward I worked in, who was the old charge sister of the same ward, rell old school.
She used to bark "NURSE!!!" in a military sergent-major kind of voice, and everyone would jump out of their skin.

On the subject of the election, I have little. I htink it's all in my sig.

Really, is having a religious dentist for a PM that fucking great ??

Nah, but Dame Edna said he looked like one, and I thought it was pretty accurate and laughed a bit.

I have totally ignored teh whole shemoxxle, knowing tha Howard was gogint to get flogged on teh basis of what Cate said, he should have gone with dignity, cos he'd been there long enough, and people will vote for change just for teh sake of change.

I was pretty dismayed when I saw a pic of him standing in front of a church in teh paper today.
Oz is supposed to be a non-religious govt, and having an image like that, plus a religious nutter in control of the Senate again gives me the heebie-jeebies.

:D Love her! That is pretty accurate! Although I always thought he looked a lot like a chartered accountant! Or a tax assessor! :D

Yeah, I must confess I'm no fan of Johnny and I'm glad to see the back of him but I'm still not convinced that we're gonna be any better off with Kevin. And the religious bit of it bothers me immensely. But then I'm starting to have big doubts about our whole political system anyway. I guess it's a wait and see game now.

Ah, I reckon he did pretty good for a duck. Not perfect, I'll grant you, but Oz has been a lot more stable under him than it had been for a damn long time. No recession we had to have, no union stupidity, heaps of employment, bludgers off the dole, but welfare still very strong etc.
Wall to wall Labor bothers me, and Coalition state govts bother me too, cos that'll be the next change people vote for. We had the perfect system before, Conservatives in Canberra to make the country rich, and Labor in the states to spend the wealth, and a bit of balance all round.
The track record of Federal Labor and State Coalition governments is bloody woeful, but that is what we are headed for.
You never has to tolerate the Bjelkie-Petersen years, with the rapant corruption and pocket-lining.
Anyhoo, it what it is now, so I'll stay liquid and keep me powder dry.

Yeah, I realize that a lot of people liked and supported him. I've just never been a fan. Tis cool. We can't all like him now can we? :)
I'm not looking forward to a bunch of bullshit carry on from the unions. If I thought for one minute they were actually upholding the fair and reasonable principles they were founded on I might be able to muster a bit more support but they've just become a giant bloody bully boy organization.
And I can't say that I'm all that thrilled about the idea of wall to wall labour governments either. BUT I truly do not want to have to live here in victoria under a Baillieu silvertail government. It would be worse than being Jeffed and I gotta say those were some of the worst years to be a working joe here in Vic when Jeff was ruling us all with his iron fist. Especially in health.
I think that's why I'm over our current government system to be honest luce. It really makes no sense to me. We should have the best people, with the best qualifications in these jobs. Not who ever managed to bend over, do behind the scenes deals and generally win a popularity contest on a whole bunch of platforms that they probably won't follow through on anyway.
Seems to me they're all lining their pockets these days. It would be nice if they could spend a bit of time doing service and representing all of us on the world stage to the best of their ability. Of course that's just a pipe dream but I'll never not want that.

Kevin's first order of business is to ratify the Kyoto Agreement.

Number two is too bring the troops home from Iraq. Meaning he won't be replacing the current troops once they finish their Tour of Duty in about May-June 08 I think.

    A few points of interest:

John Howard has all but lost his seat of Bennelong.

The Greens increased there primary vote.

The Democrats(the australian democrats were once the balance of power in the senate) were all but wiped off the political map.

yes! ... that's what i'm talking about!! ... hopefully, we will see a similar change here!
