I am OK with him serving his sentence and playing as well. After getting out, he is entitled to have a job. He just happens to be uniquely talented for a high-paying, high-profile job.
I don't think Jamal Lewis killed anyone, though did he? I thought he just did some drug running.

yeah and evrytime he's on the field i will turn to my kid and explain to him yeah that's vick the dog killer someone you can look up to, fuck that so in other words the crime doesn't matter as long as you serve you're sentence you can get you're old job back ,i know for sure if i get convicted or pleaded guilty to any crime my employer would fire me and i would never evr get this job back .......it should be the same for any human being ......or how if you're kids teacher get's caught molesting kids should he be able to go back and teach again fuck no .........
all I know is Americans have short memories...6 months from now, we'll have moved on to the next Imus, Scott Peterson, or OJ...
I think that is one of the reasons that the NFL hasn't announced a suspension/ban yet. They have all of the time in the world to do it as Vick will most likely be in jail this season and into next season.
If they would go and announce something like a 3 year suspension today, there would be ridiculous outrage... anything short of a lifetime ban will draw outrage.
I think they will just wait it out and decide (or at least announce) his suspension well down the road.

i'm not saying that but i believe he blew he's chance at being in the publics eye or the football stage ,like i said would you have a problem if a teacher in you're kids school molested kids and served he's/she sentence and was back teaching you're children ?? I WOULD HAVE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THAT .........
What does one thing have to do with the other? You can't blame the US media for over-doing it, with the Vick case - they by nature do it to almost everything and it's obviously not a reflection of importance.
Secondly, just because our society as a whole doesn't care enough to do anything bout the everyday "crimes" or "misgivings" of those around them does not elude the fact of what Vick himself has done.
Also, the NAACP is silly for making such comments. Vick wasn't attacked or being picked out because he's black, he's being attacked and picked out because he committed sick crimes and the fact that he's a public figure. It's got zero to do with race.
Lastly, the NFL is waiting til the entire mess unfolds (judge rulings, possible state charges, etc) before issusing a comment/suspension.

I am not going to pile on punishment because he happens to work in a field where kids see him play.
When he's out he should be able to work. I could live with a harsher legal punishment, though.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.
Regardless of any actual suspension to come.. an NFL QB is the most visable player on a team - their leader. There's no way any team would make this guy (after what he has done) their leader/spokesperson. There's no way to quantify the amount of hate mail, protests and problems which would spur from any team doing this, so even if Vick doesn't get a lifetime suspension, he will not be given another chance - and it's totally justified.
As for Vick being able to play from a legal standpoint, there are rules and procedures in the NFL Code of Conduct policy which Vick has broken. Many of which will either give him a long, lengthy suspension or a life-time ban.
The same as Pete Rose - he did time and paid his debt to society for his gambling and other crimes, after the fact he was not able to rejoin MLB because of his wrong doings.
If a person commits a crime, it goes on their record and employees are allowed to recognize it as a distinction of character or potentially defending themselves for future wrong doing. Ie.. an account who steals - goes to jail for embezzlement, isn't gonna walk out of jail and find an accounting job without his past crimes coming into play. Same goes for Vick. He is a representative of the NFL and he has broken so many codes of conduct, he maybe banned for life or just not given a chance again. It's deserved and totally justified.
I would too...but I don't see Vick's charges being the same as a teacher molesting a kid...

Any bets his career is pretty much over at this point?
Lot's of dog owners out there that have dogs....this won't be forgotten for the rest of his life. It will follow him everywhere he goes. Kinda like OJ in a sense.
This guy is one seriously sick and demented individual.
Sorry, the "Lot's of dog owners that have dogs" line is making me laugh kind of hard right now. I'm sure it's a careless typo but I can't stop laughing, kind of like when you're at church and get the giggles over nothing...
Also, there's a huge misconception about Pitbulls being naturally violent. Most of time when you hear about them it is because of the breeding and training them to act as such. Pitbulls are like any other type of dog, we as humans have altered some of them for sick purposes.
Again, if one of his dogs got loose and mauled a child, would this situation be different?

I agree 100%
There have been over 50 players arrested for crimes against PEOPLE since 2006, yet you dont hear a peep about that.
I agree that what Vick did was wrong, and it turns my stomach.
But the message being sent is that its ok to harm people, but hey dont mess with out pets. I dont think thats right.

depends on what stats you keep. He's never been an elite passer, but the fact remains no fewer than 6 easy TD's were dropped last year, that would make 26 for the season, he rushed for over 1000 yards and a couple more TD's, no other QB has ever come close. This was done in one of the worst game plans in a poorly designed offensive scheme with terrible WR's.
Mike Vick never ever worked hard enough at being comfortable in the pocket not that there ever was one very long, he never put in the time it takes to learn the position and only last year did his footwork improve, mainly because he never had a coach that did anything but gawk at his arm strength and his ability with his legs. He's never been comfortable in the pocket. People that say he wasn't in the same league as the above are completely discounting the legwork. Guy had 3500 or so yards last year and 20TD's with 6 dropped TDs and 17 or so other drops. He should have finished with 27-28 overall TD's with 4000 total yards. I don't care how you get them, just that you get them. Had he been in a better suited offense (vertical) to the personel and not ham strung in the pussy arm west coast Mooch style offense that Detroit was mired in for several years with the wrong personel he might throw for 3,500 and still rush for 800 or so.
That's what he could have done had they not fired Dan Reeves and instead hired that idiot Mora. This year would have been his best chance since 2004 (the first year of Mora in ostensibly Reeves scheme) to be what he should be.
But if you're a stats guy and you watch the games, you should still be absolutely impressed with Vicks ability. He simply wasn't close interms of passing because since Reeves and until last year with Musgrave, he never had a QB coach worth a shit and he never cared to learn anything. It's disgusting a guy with that much raw talent would just shit on it and himself the way he has...pathetic really. People have been trying to tear down what he is since he got in the league, unfortunately he has all the talent in the world and the wrong brain saddled with it.
He's not even close to Randell Cunningham sadly unless he comes back smarter, but easily, the most amazing athlete I have ever seen if he'd ever had the desire to be a great passer he certainly could have achieved it in a Vertical system the way he did when he was just getting into the league in 2002 when they beat up Brett Farve and co in Lambeau in the playoffs, back when that was still a feat.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I just think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion becuase of the sentimental place dogs have in people's hearts. Jail time for animal cruelty? First offense? Taking away his livelihood for animal cruelty? Most people dont even get probation for first offenses like that becuase the prosecutor wouldnt bother. Dont get me wrong, I think what he did is despicable and dumb. But there are definitely politics involved and the "lassie card" is being played to its full effect.

no one held a gun to he's head and made him choke, slam, drown the dogs he made that choice all by he's lonesome self. unlike the dogs he had a choice to do right or wrong poor animals had the bad luck to end up with this asshole as the ring leader ...........
Anyone can gamble or in some fashion have some sort of ring if they really applied themselves to doing such... whether its illegal machines, card games, betting on sports, etc.
Training and killing innocent animals for your own purposes (gambling) is truly sick. It takes a cold, demented individual to have no remorse for these kind of actions and it's the same time of behavior and thought process that people who kill other people use. That doesn't mean it's better/worse than to kill animals than humans - it's just the same thought process.
And if an average Joe had committed these same exact crimes, they'd go to jail for 25+ yrs. Their life would be over. Vick is gonna get like a yr or two with a fine and walk out of jail and still be the Millionaire he was previously, except he wont be able to play the sport he loves cause he so terribly ruined his image and broke so many policies, it's no longer an option.

It is not legally considered "animal cruelty". Dogfighting has it's own set of laws. So yeah, most people do not get jail time or probation for animal cruelty. Legally, dog fighting is a FELONY in all states but 2. It is not like they are making new rules or anything here. It is just as big as it is because of Vick's celebrity. It's not like other people that get caught being involved in dog fighting get a slap on the wrist.
Comments
what people have to remember is that the main story line is not the dogfighting, but rather a marquee player of the NFL is in the middle of it.
for example, if joe and schmo called rutgers girls "nappy headed niggas", it would not have been as big a deal as imus, because of who he is.
this is big because this is VICK, not because it is dogfighting.
The post I quoted seemed to say that Jamal killed someone.
I don't think Ray did, but I do think he knew more than he was letting on.

That's a perinnial pro bowler that's got nothing to do with hype. If anything he was the anti hype the last couple of years.
He simply wasn't close interms of passing because since Reeves and until last year with Musgrave, he never had a QB coach worth a shit and he never cared to learn anything it seemed.
That was years ago, Im talking current players.
The gambling part of it is more troubling to me.
no one held a gun to he's head and made him choke, slam, drown the dogs he made that choice all by he's lonesome self. unlike the dogs he had a choice to do right or wrong poor animals had the bad luck to end up with this asshole as the ring leader ...........
Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
