No. It is "God and me...." in the sentence that he used.

Actually, I think Jeff is right on this one.

"God" and "Cosmo" are subject in this sentence so Cosmo should be replaced by a subject form. The subject form of the first person is "I" and the object form is "me".

    e.g.

    Santa brought me candy.

    me = object

    I brought him candy.

    I = subject

So I think Jeff is right and it should be; "God and I are ..."

Or am I missing something here?

I think the correct way is:

God and me are doing just fine.

"God and I" doesn't work because that would be like say "I are doing..."

    Hm.

We need a grammarian. I thought it was "God and I are doing ..." because "I" is the subject form.

In my opinion, "God and me are doing..." doesn't work because that would be like saying "Me is doing..."

    I'm confused now.

I'm going to pose this question on the AET because this has very little to do with atheists not being pacifists.

The subject is "God and I," therefore "God and I" is acceptable to use. When there is a preposition before it then you would say "God and me." For example, "Between God and me, there is much friendship."
All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

    It's called conjugation.

    I am...
    We are...
    He, She, It is...
    They are...

And BTW, I think Collin's command of the language is amazing. I believe he is a non-native speaker, but you'd never know it.

I think it's probably just a fucked up sentence either way.

    It sounds better like this:

We are doing fine, God and me.

    yes
    yes
    and yes.

and...collin IS right. it is 'god and i', no matter how you arrange the sentence.

*btw - i find it endlessly amusing that a thread about atheists...pacifism...is reduced to a discussion of grammar. there's a message in here somewhere, and it's not just a grammar lesson. :D

    haha.

and yet...it would STILL be....'god and i.' it is all related to subject/verb agreement, no matter how you toss the words around.

well seeing as this part of the conversation is NOT philosophical, i can clearly state...i am not. :D however, i am far too lazt to go and give you definitive proof, but it IS true. so...look it up yourself, or continue to think i/we're wrong...but....i/we are not.

'god and i' are just fine and right, too. and so is everyone else who thinks 'god and i.' ;) haha.

Really, not in that sentence. I think my re-write sounds best. 'God and I' might sound correct in the re-write, but I think 'God and me' is more correct.

you can think whatever you like gue....but according to proper grammar, you are incorrect. tis silly to go in circles on it, for THIS...there is proof. as i said, i am far too lazy to dig it up for you, and suffice to say...i don't think you'd believe it in any case. so, c'est la vie.

tis 'god and i'...no matter HOW you slice it......there is no 'more correct' in this instance. there is correct...or incorrect, that's it.

okey doke. seeing as i only entered this convo from your mail, i wasn't following along. the whole "why aren't atheist/christians/martians...anything"...just not my kinda debate really. :p who woulda thunk 'god and i' would be tho? ;)

    anyhooo.....have fun!

and i really should extricate myself from here too....but i'll get back to ya on all of it. i am a very inconsistent e-mailer, but i mean well. be happy!
