  • Leave Obama alone!!! He doesn't need PJ or any other band to help him. All they can do is hurt his chances. VFC 2004 hurt Kerry. He lost every important state that VFC played. VFC turned him into the Hollywood/Hippie candidate that the South and parts of the Midwest hate. Obama on his current path should destroy McCain in November. Leave well enough alone!

Bottom line is that he lost all the states that VFC focused on. VFC needs to find someone like Toby Keith if they want to make a real difference in the South. VFC simply preached to the choir over and over. The people at those shows in 04 were proabably 99% percent anti Bush before the tour was even thought of. Obama will dominate the Northeast and most of the West. But without Ohio or Florida he'll have the same fate that Kerry did. I say leave Obama alone and good things will happen. This guy is dynamic in a way the Kerry could only dream of.

I have ELECTILE DYSFUNCTION. I'm unable to get excited about ANY of the candidates. I do have to say that something about OBAMA doesn't sit right with me. That's not to say that any of the other candidates are any better but I really think PJ is kinda feeling the same way. They haven't backed anyone publicly or officially yet have they?

What has Obama actually done besides spout change. He has pratically said nothing about where he stands on any issues and what he would do different. The media is too afraid to question him or attack him because of race.

Correct me if I am wrong however the point of the VFC 2004 wasn't that a bunch on Bush supporters would come to the show and all the sudden change their minds.....

It was to raise money to donate to organizations that promoted the idea of change and so they could focuses the money towards the swing states...

    quoted from jjbehren at Ebeas...
I hate this talking point that people seem to be grabbing onto. He's accomplished a lot as a public servant, Illinois State Senator and US Senator.

    Pre-Politics:
He received his undergrad degree from Columbia, majored in political science with a specialization in international relations (I doubt W. even took a class on that subject).

Moved to Chicago to take a job as a community organizer. Worked with low-income residents in Chicago's Roseland community and the Altgeld Gardens public housing development.

He went to Harvard Law School in 1988 and was elected as Harvard Law Review's "first black president in its 104-year history". He completed his J.D. degree magna cum laude in 1991.

He returned to Chicago and directed a voter registration drive. As an attorney he represented community organizers, discrimination claims, and voting rights cases. He was a lecturer of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1993-2004

    Illinois Legislator:

Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws.

He sponsored a law enhancing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare.

He led the passage of legislation mandating videotaping of homicide interrogations, and a law to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they stopped. Despite this he still obtained the fraternal order of police's endorsement of his 2004 U.S. Senate bid.

He worked with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms.

    U.S. Senator:

He recruited a team of established, high-level advisers devoted to broad themes that exceeded the usual requirements of an incoming first-term senator (much like a cabinet).

In 2005, he co-sponsored the "Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act"

He added three amendments to the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act", which passed the Senate in May 2006 (but didn't pass the house.

The "Coburn-Obama Transparency Act" provides for the web site USAspending.gov. The site lists all organizations receiving Federal funds from 2007 onward and provides breakdowns by the agency allocating the funds, the dollar amount given, and the purpose of the grant or contract. (Transparent government is a key element to a true democracy. Sharp contrast to the current Bush quasi-dictatorship and it's document classification/destruction policy).

He was the primary sponsor of the "Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act," which Bush signed into law.

He holds assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans' Affairs.

He worked with Russ Feingold (D–WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act," which was also signed into law

He sponsored a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections.

He also introduced the "Iraq War De-Escalation Act", a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.

He co-sponsored an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act that added safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs. (Usually by screwing the troops out of pay).

He sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry.

Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.

Sure, some of the bills he has sponsored were not signed into law, but a lot of them were, by a asshole Republican president.

So let's see, he's worked to help the poor, the disenfranchised, the troops, the environment, homeland security, government transparency, and children. He's surrounded himself with experienced, intelligent people. He can give a hell of a speech and motivate millions (watch his keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention). And he's done it all with more integrity and honesty than 99% of the politicians out there, Democrats or Republicans.

Stop this, "Well, what has he even accomplished?" bullshit. Quick, tell me what your US Senators have accomplished! The truth is most of their work goes unnoticed by the vast majority of Americans who are too busy watching American Idol to care. Then all of a sudden the media starts saying that he hasn't accomplished anything and people believe it because they don't bother to look shit up and because Obama never got to the final round of American Idol.

    End rant.
