Did you guys get a chance to listen to the whole interview on that link I provided? It is interesting in parts. I like when he talks about the way he used to treat producers in Soundgarden....he said him and the boys never really used them, the producer was just there to make sure they "behaved" themselves, so to speak. He notes that it actually wasn't until the first Audioslave record where he started listening to what the producer had to offer. To me, this album sounds almost entirely producer (Timbaland) driven, which is a fucking shame (and he may or may not even be writing his own lyrics now). I think he should try doing things his own way, the way he did in SG, it seemed to work well for him.....maybe he could even try producing/co-producing his own album again.
He also mentions that he got the idea to work with Timbaland from his brother-in-law who owns a night club or some shit. I had a feeling this idea stemmed from....umm...other influences, but I still blame Chris for putting his name to utter shit like this. And I must reiterate that I was a supporter of Carry On, while it was a weak album, it appears it will beat this new one to bloody hell.
The whole thing is a complete fucking shambles, it really is, and this is coming from an absolutely massive Cornell fan. Carry On was certainly weak but still ok, I had no idea however that he would continue the road into this... it's a sickening sell-out of mega proportions.

A sell out is someone who goes against their beliefs/values for money. I dont recall Cornell ever saying he wasn't going to do an R n B album so i dont think we can call someone a sell out for trying something new.

My first post on there... and I'll get banned forever. Sounds good to me.
I already posted that there for you, couldn't resist

after listening to that interview i've kinda changed my opinion about all this...
i dont like his new stuff, which does annoy me, cause i think he's one of the best singers of the past 15-20 years. but if he's happy playing this sort of stuff then good for him. lets just call it a midlife crisis and hope he gets over it soon...
i think he makes a good point about artists who stay in a corner and play the same sort of stuff through their whole career, the best artists are the ones who can play across different styles of music, and i think he's pretty keen on making sure he's doing that, whether its succesfull or not...
what i do like is the fact that he's doing this thing but not abandoning all his old music which i do love. he's still playing TOTD stuff and SG stuff so im sure he'll head back in that direction some day...
and when he does ill be waiting to pick up his records again.
Nope, that's mine. Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Wellll...I have a story and I promise you it's true. I am friends with the top local DJ in town. She got to hear the cd today with representatives from Interscope. She sent me a text from the listening party and said that it wasn't as bad as I told her it was gonna be. Well, I remembered your cartoon and sent it to her immediately. Later, she was out to dinner with the record people and showed it to them. One thought it was hilarious....one not so much (said it was mean) LOL...So don't be surprised if it doesn't get back to the man himself.

Haha! Excellent!

Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
Well, I've heard the three songs again, louder and they're sounding pretty decent and I'm thinking there may be a good chance Timbaland did put some music on this. Also, two of the songs are sounding great live:
Now I'm not up on my Cornell so someone will have to explain the thread title. Is "Long Gone" the title of a new song or it it a way of describing his credibility?

I think both songs sound better live but I wouldn't call them great by any means. Watch Out sounds almost alright with a real drum kit though.
I don't understand Cornell's (or Timberland's?) reliance on a drum machine. I mean, the guy worked with Matt Cameron for over 10 years so he obviously knows the value of a good drumkit.
If they were actually good beats I wouldn't be complaining but from what I've heard, they don't seem to be.
I'll say this much: the slower songs are a LOT more tolerable than the fast songs. I don't know why, maybe they fit his voice better. Or maybe it's the lack of yelping in the background. I just don't know.

I agree, I would even go to the point of saying that I rather like Scream, the music isn't spectacular, but the vocals are damn good. Watch Out still irritates the living shit out of me.

Also, there's a cool version of Hunger Strike with Chester Bennington and one Cornell does with Crawling with Linkin Park.

Unless you've read the lyrics, in which case, nothing can possibly save it.
