becky sneed. i fell in love with her at a garage concert in 1967.
she also taught me how to kiss, french style that is..
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
bullshit.. they were great... still give Bigger Better Faster More a spin like once a week.. great disc
I actually owned the album and saw them open for Aerosmith, and I was utterly horified at the shit I heard.
Check out Concrete Blond, They're along the same lines but much better
"Stunned by my own reflection, It's looking back, sees me too clearly and I swore I'd never go there again, Not unlike a friend that politely drags you down, down, down"
When you see me on the street, yell out "FAVO!!!"
I've been to alot of Pearl Jam shows; So fucking what.
Since there were some comments recently slamming female singers, I thought I might stand up for teh sisters.
Heather Nova, heartmelting
Alison Krause, look in the dictionary under elegant and entrancing
Ellen Foley, caused a lot of adolescent jeans to catch fire in teh day
Amy Lee, love her or hate hger, she can sing
JAnis Joplin, whiskey, cigarettes and howling good fun
who wants to name some more ???
Love Janis! What a woman!! And Alison Krause is just beautiful.
And Amy rocks!
I have to add 2 personal favorites that spring to a mind under pressure!
Ann & Nancy Wilson : those girls seriously have the most amazing voices and are brilliant musicians. Their early stuff was amazing and some of the most important influences of my childhood. Dreamboat Annie is one of my all time favorite albums.
Melanie Safka: How cool to hear her revived by Hilltop Hoods!
Candles in The Rain is still one of my all time favorites. I've killed two copies of it on vinyl already by overplaying!
I'm sure there's others but I'll post them later, when I can think past the inane banter coming from ABC Kids!

Great thread by the way lucy!
Thanks, careful with knife, Eugene !!
I am so stoked with all the positive energy coming out here, thank you everyone !!
Ani Difranco - Simply the most passionate and talented woman I have ever witnessed. She's been out there putting out excellent music since 89 and even started her own record company, Righteous Babe Records. She has always held true to her beliefs and her fans. Her song writing skills are mind blowing and she can play the hell out of a guitar. She's also an activist and uses her exposure to stand up and speak out about the things she truly cares about. She's always out there touring and she treats the fans at her shows as if they were her own family to which she is honered to be playing for. I just can't say enough about this amazing woman.
Wow! what a mighty awesome time for me to have stumbled upon this thread, for international women's day the amnesty group at my school are organising a stall and i'm organising the music (songs by female artists). My favourite female musicians would be Neko Case, Kim Deal and Hope Sandoval
my favourite : singer from the group Jinx (Croatian band) what a voice!!!
Aretha Franklin
Norah Jones
Anouk
Fiona Apple
the chick from German group Guano Apes
ow and the one from Vaya con Dios...
Have to admit, though, I like male voices way better...
The worst enemies of music? Money and Mathematics. Combined with music, they both do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to do. Money makes music cheap, mathematics makes it stupid and predictable.

PJ Harvey - No one wails like a banshee like Polly.

There is no such thing as leftover pizza. There is now pizza and later pizza. - anonymous The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
off the top of my head... Sarah Harmer, Tori Amos, Annie Lennox, Juliana Hatfield, Sarah Slean, Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlan, Ann & Nancy Wilson, Bjork, Kate Bush, Holly McNarland, Delores O'Riordan, Sarah Bettens, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, Melissa Etheridge, Sarah McLeod, Grace Slick, Enya, Nina Gordon, Sade, and the singer from Skunk Anansie (I don't know her name!), etc etc.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Patty Griffin?!?!?!?! She is amazing!! She's had her ups and downs but if your gonna check her out start with her first album "living with ghosts" it is haunting and theraputic very mellow.
-Fiona apple can do no wrong I totally have a girl crush on her.
-Emily Haines
-Gwen before she completely sold out!! Ughhghgh what the fuck?!
i can stand some sherly crow and alanis morisette tunes, but neither of them is a really great singer, just catchy song-writing.
to prove that i dont hate ALL female singers (i was one of the mentioned people) neko case is good. ive never heard any of her solo stuff... but her work with the new pornographers is amazing. also, whoever the chick singing with the decemberists is.
there are a few cameos i dig too... the chick on the new hold steady tent is a nice touch, and martha wainwright on the new snow patrol album.
I just bought Failer by Kathleen Edwards a week or so ago. I'm loving her - listening right now in fact.
My holy trinity:
Tori Amos
PJ Harvey
Juliana Hatfield (she doesn't really fit with the other two . . .)
And a few others:
Aimee Mann
Gillian Welch
Cat Power
Kim Gordon
Alison Krauss
Regina Spektor
Dixie Chicks
I have to admit, I'd don't seem to be consistant in getting the full back catalogue for the female musicans I like. I've been listening to Aimee Mann for a number of years and loving Bachelor No. 2 and Lost in Space, for instance, but for some reason I never get around to buying any other records. I started listening to Gillian Welch last year and I'm loving the one album I've got, but never think to buy another one when I'm record shopping. I'm an embarassment to my own sex!
Comments
She sucks.
You may dislike her operatic/heavy metal singing style, but she certainly can sing. Anyone who has heard say, "Milkshake n Honey" can back me up...
bullshit.. they were great... still give Bigger Better Faster More a spin like once a week.. great disc
