Great female singers.........

Since there were some comments recently slamming female singers, I thought I might stand up for teh sisters.
Heather Nova, heartmelting
Alison Krause, look in the dictionary under elegant and entrancing
Ellen Foley, caused a lot of adolescent jeans to catch fire in teh day
Amy Lee, love her or hate hger, she can sing
JAnis Joplin, whiskey, cigarettes and howling good fun
who wants to name some more ???

Music is not a competetion.

Kim Deal. Listen to "Do You Love Me Now?" her voice is very beautiful especially in this song.
Tanya Donelley (from Belly, Throwing Muses): her voice is very angelic. She can range from high to low on such songs as "The Bees," & "Stay"
I almost forgot, Corin Tucker from Sleater-Kinney. some might love her or hate her voice, but I think she rocks.

And if you like Norah Jonesy stuff, Carla Bruni is nice. I think she has a new album out.

I'd have to disagree. Sleater-Kinney kicks ass!
I'M NOT A SLAVE TO A WORLD THAT DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT.
OK, one electric shock to you, now say something nice !!
amen to that. i think maybe it was you or someone else on this board who was talking about her but this was a while ago now.
I also have to add:
Beth Orton
Aimee Mann
Bjork
PJ Harvey
Beth Preston
Emiliana Torrini
Ember Swift
Fiona Apple
Kate Miller-Heidke, Clare Bowditch, Mia Dyson, Sarah Blasko (all aussie)
Regina Spektor
and can't forget Tori Amos
Also Corrine Bailey-Rae is pretty good.
Don't know if she is crazy or not, but I HATE her voice. Totally ruined Fortunate Son and RITFW in Nashville 2003. I shall never forgive her.
One of my favs from her newest album
"Hold On, Hold On"
The most tender place in my heart is for strangers
I know it's unkind but my own blood is much too dangerous
Hangin' round the ceiling half the time
Hangin' round the ceiling half the time
Compared to some I've been around
But I really tried so hard
That echo chorus lied to me with its
"Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on"
In the end I was the mean girl
Or somebody's in-between girl
Now it's the devil I love
And that's as funny as real love
I leave the party at three a.m.
Alone, thank God
With a valium from the bride
It's the devil I love
And that's as funny as real love
And that's as real as true love
That echo chorus lied to me with its
"Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on"
That echo chorus lied to me with its
"Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on"

I'll agree there, she's got a great voice. I went to see Blink 182 in 2004 solely for their set, but they really sucked. No Doubt opened, and they put on quite a show.

Neko Case
Beth Orton

I was just about to say that. Don't like the solo stuff but she's still my favorite female singer. The Goodness albums were amazing!
Have to add Joss Stone to the list. Don't care for the music so much but the girl can sing.
Can't believe no-one's mentioned Tori Amos yet. Her songs can be a bit hit and miss, but her singing is always top notch. Crucify is a stone cold classic aswell.
Corrin Tucker-Sleater-Kinney fuckin' rocks!!! Don't drink the "Haterade"
Tori Amos
Liz Phair
Stevie Nicks
Allison Krauss
Deborah Harry (Blondie)
Courtney Love (put down that bottle of "Haterade")
Melissa Auf Der Maur
Lexi (from Magneta Lane)
Emmylou Harris
I did
and they all eat rainbows and pooh butterflies!
Also, the girl who sings with Zero 7 for the song "In the Waiting Line".
I'll stand with you on this one. Sure, it's sugary sweet pop music, but she's got some pipes.
She has really evolved from her Genie in a Bottle days.
