Are you kidding me??? Bonham hardly ever used tom beats like Carey does. Thier styles are similar in parts, but saying he stole his style is a VERY retarded thing to say. Go listen to the drumming on Lateralus and tell me that it's like Bonham's drumming.

I'm not saying that Carey has done more for rock drumming than Bonham, I mean, that's pretty obvious that Bonham is probably one of the 3 most important rock drummers in history...I can't deny that. Denying that Carey's skill ISN'T far surperior to Bonhams is a very absurd thing to say.

And besides, Bonham isn't even known for playing odd time signatures, and i'm willing to bet that Carl Palmer was playing odd time sigs before Bonham was. A lot of Zep fans probably don't even know that Bonham ever played in odd time sigs. That is something Carey is well known for, as are about every progressive rock drummers.

    Holla. Excellently put.

True about Lateralus not being the same style. Opiate, Undertow, and Aenima have some offbeat stuff, but alotta straight time sigs, so early on he was very reminiscent of Bonzo before other key influences started playing a bigger role.

Fact of the matter is, I have never heard Danny Carey do anything that John Bohnam can't do, maybe the double bass madness, but Bonzo played with a single kicker.

I won't confess to know the ins and outs of the drumming world and tell everyone that drummer x is the best because I honestly don't know, but here's a list of some drummers that I enjoy:
    Dave Grohl
    Matt Cameron
    John Bohnam
    Chad Smith
Janet Weiss (I think that's her name - the one from Sleater-Kinney)
    Darren Jessee

That's very laughable. Carey does far more diverse and creative things than Bonham has ever done. Double bass is just one of those things. Danny Carey's coordination FAR, FAR surpasses Bonham. Have you ever watched some live video of Carey? Carey is one of the most coordinated drummers in rock. I just don't think you know enough about playing drums to realize that Carey is far surperior to Bonham on every level.

I agree 100% with the Bonham part, but not with The Beatles. I think The Beatles and Elvis are far and away the greatest rock artists ever. There will never be another band/solo artist as big as they were and that did a whole lot for music.

I think Bonham is the most overated drummer by far. Sure hes got plenty of skill, but he can't be compared to Carey, Peart, Cobham, Bozzio and several others who are FAR superior at the drums. I can agree that Bonham is certainly a drumming legend, and possibly the most important rock drummer, but he in no way shape or form is the best drummer skill wise, even though sadly, some Zep fans will disagree.

    Just my opinion.

Just because someone is pioneering in their field doesn't mean they are the best at what they do. I'm sure there are plenty of computer geeks who far surpass Bill Gates in their skills, but people aren't going to talk about them, cause he revolutionised computing. Buddy Holly and many others came before the Beatles, but they happened to be the right band in the right place at the right time, and so they will always be remembered as 'the best' - doesn't mean it's true. I hear more Zeppelin in modern rock than I do Beatles, but they won't be seen as important becasue the beatles came first.

give cryptopsy a listen. You will probably loathe the vocals and probably the rest of it too but Flo has all the chops of Neil Peart played at 3 times the speed
