JET is a better band than Pearl Jam.

but whatever man, knock yourself out. personally, i enjoy life. it's not all crying in a dark room or ruffling my brow oh so pretentiously as i ponder how clap your hands say yeah's lyrics are so gibberish they HAVE to be deep. sometimes it's driving through town with the windows down on a sunny day and singing songs with great choruses about sex and parties and having fun. it's why i like the decemberists... songs about drunken sailors, it's kitschy but so much fun. or the new pornographers, or sloan, or buckcherry. jet is in the same camp.
i hate jackass, but harold and kumar is funny as hell. nothing wrong with low brow now and again. if you dont have a sense of humor about how ridiculous your pretensions are, you just become an self-righteous tool.
I said Jet sucks. Not AC/DC. I just said I can't listen to AC/DC anymore. I still recognize their contributions to rock and appreciate Angus's guitar work. Jet, on the other hand, makes no contribution. They are terrible musicians, horrific songwriters, and don't have an ounce of originality anywhere in their collective body.
I enjoy life plenty. There are many ways of defining "fun." For me, that doesn't require drinking or music about drinking. When I get up in front of hundreds of people to sing Men at Work's "Down Under," I am hardly taking myself seriously. Business as Usual is still a great album! Haha. I have plenty of "fun" music in my collection, but what I listen to of it does not fit the cock-rock criterion. I can't relate to it. It isn't my kind of fun.
I am not some indie snob (can't stand Clap Your Hands Say Yeah). Again, I am the guy who listed American Idiot as one of the top two or three albums to be released this decade. I just appreciate substance. I also think that we as a society spend far too much escaping (particularly via alcohol and drugs) and far too little time working to fix this rapidly derailing train we're on.
I also find it rather ironic that I might be the self-righteous tool on the board now. I had numerous arguments with Talk Show Host who held that mantle before me. But hey, if I a strong distaste for cock rock and a healthy appreciation for meaningful lyrics and good musicianship makes me a self-righteous tool, I proudly accept the label. It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.0 -

Yes, except The Black Crowes - they're old school shaggy, not poser shaggy.0 -

you mean the black crowes are actually from the 70s and not from the 90s like i thought they were.
by old school you must mean new old school. not to be confused with actual old school or poser old school. :Phear my name

i dont use drugs or alcohol... and honestly i dont know if jet sings about any of that. but it's a great soundtrack to a party or to just chill. im guessing you've only heard cold hard bitch and are you gonna be my girl. cos honestly, they crib much more from the mid-tempo songbook. those are basically the only 2 songs they have that sound anything like ac/dc. no, they're not original, but they're fun and write some decent tunes. no, they're not extremely deep, but there can be beauty in simplicity... listen to any beatles album prior to rubber soul.0 -
The fact that some of this stuff is being debated is a complete joke.
Lets end it with Jet is a great band and one of the best of the decade. Who cares if they have a retro sound? Its not a bad thing.......sounds way better than all the faggot emo and bad indie music out there today.
But Pearl Jam is incredibly successful, have fans that have been around for many years, they have made many classic songs and albums.Alpine Valley 2000

The Crowes are just long-haired rocker dudes from the early 90's. By the mid-90's a lot of bands cut their hair and grew up, and now this new wave of shaggy haired 70's retro bullshit is everywhere. Having shaggy hair used to make you a rocker scum. Now it will get you a modeling job.0 -

Haha! That's where we're going to end it? That would be like me saying, "Let's end this with Jet blows, has not an ounce of talent, and the world of music would be better if they had never existed." Comfortable with that? Didn't think so. As with just about any band that gets brought up here, it will end with people disagreeing. In my opinion, the best rock music being made is in the world of indie rock. Also, emo does not exist. I wish people would realize this. It is a meaningless label, just like grunge. Move on.It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.0 -

I didn't say they sounded like AC/DC. I simply place them both in the cock rock category. I have listened to that entire Jet album, and the mid-tempo stuff is even worse.
As for The Beatles, they are my second favorite band. Many of my favorite Beatles songs are their simple ones (And I Love Her, I Feel Fine. . .). But comparing their undeniably beautiful music to anything Jet has done. . .let's not go there. It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.0 -

You are a crack-up. Boy bands are created by record labels to feed to gullible teenagers. I don't know which bands you are referring to when you use EMO or today's boy bands, but generally speaking, they sing about the same content that blues artists sing about (heartbreak, feeling down). That's a worthy enough subject, in my opinion. If you don't like the way they deliver it, so be it, but they are still rock bands. It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.0 -

Simple Plan is a boy band. I'd throw Good Charlotte in there as well. They are pop acts trying to pass themselves off as rocks blands and generally blow. My Chemical Romance are in music for all the right reasons. I got a chance to interview Ray Toro, their guitar player, and he's a great guy who truly loves what he does. They look up to artists like Green Day, Queen, Face to Face, and David Bowie. And they are saving kids' lives, just like Pearl Jam did. I find their live act tiresome, but they have a few good songs, and they are making a huge impact on people's lives. I'm glad they're around. It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.0 -

Please dont bash Jet and other bands of that genre and then declare MCR to be a decent band. You lost all credibility.Alpine Valley 2000

That is your opinion. I have mine as well. I also said I like Men at Work and can't listen to AC/DC. I also think Oasis is a decidely average band who insists on making the same album over and over again (I own them all!). I don't care if you agree with my opinion. I think My Chemical Romance is a decent band who are serving an important purpose. I think Jet blows. Deal with it.It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.0
