while i thought it was cool that Bruce and he band ignored the 'Unplugged' format after one song and played full band for the rest, Wikipedia says that Bruce lost confidence in the band after one song and changed to electric right there and then. Is that true??

I don't know anything about Bruce losing confidence in that band at that moment. I believe he just went with how things should be at that time. I watched it unfold on TV and it was awesome, despite new band members - it still is today as far as I am concerned.

Now, i can also understand that a lot of loyal fans may not have been so happy when Bruce dissolved the E Street Band and played with a sessions band, but was it really that bad?

The band wasn't bad - it was different. The controversy surrounded the fact that Bruce was not with his childhood buddies anymore - some considered him a flatleaver (a Brooklyn term) - left his friends flat and moved on to other things. Bruce had said numerous times in various interviews that at that time he needed to explore other avenues, and some of the E-Streeters wanted to do the same. I saw several shows on the HT/LT tour, and all shows were amazing. TGTJ tour was amazing to me as well, and that was just Bruce alone. MHO
I happen to think a bunch of tracks from Lucky Town and Human Touch are some of his best songs, even if they are more optimistic in sound. Were fans really that appalled by the new sound back in 1992? Was it such a bad thing that Bruce sounded happier?

I don't thing it was appalling - once again, some people didn't want to accept the change. The sound was different. Back-up singers were there. the classic "Jersey sound" was not as it was. There are some very classic songs that Bruce has re-worked over the years from those albums. "If I should Fall Behind" "Lucky Town" "Real World" and Just Another Roll of the Dice" are some. My fave personally is "I Wish I were Blind."

In a way, i feel lucky because it's only in the last year or so that i've become a big Springsteen fan so i missed all the controversy.

As a long-time Bruce fan, I personally feel that without all the change and controversy, the come-back tour in 1999 was all the more sweeter, and the band has evolved in ways they never would have if they had stayed together - comfy in one situation for all that time i.e. Steve - Sopranos, Max - Conan, etc.
One more question - how bad was the apparent 'controversy' in 2000 when Springsteen debuted 'American Skin'?

It was bad in the beginning. People who didn't read the lyrics and understand the meaning of the song took Bruce as siding against the cops. There were policemen who boycotted the shows and who got up and left the show when the song was being performed. There are people to this day that don't like the political side of Bruce (Kerry, VFC as well) and became "lesser fans" as his likes and dislikes became evident. Amadu Dialo's mom was at one of the MSG performances of American Skin at the time. It was all over the papers. Some fans didn't like that either. But - once again, they really didn't understand the true meaning of the song.

p.s. I watched the Amnesty International DVD from 1988 for the first time last night, and the performance of Twist n' Shout may be the single greatest thing i've ever seen from any musical act ever.

Bruce is the greatest musical performer as far as I am concerned (but then again, I am quite biased). His talent, charisma, and pure energy evoke natural emotions in people. He has an ability to make you relate to him on a personal level, no matter what he has to say. Twist 'n' Shout was a staple cover for Bruce in the early days. I have witnessed it many times. My personal fave was New Year's Eve, 1980 (I said this once before on this thread.) He danced his heart out with the rest of us.

Anyway, I hope I have helped you in some way. Welcome to Bruce's fan base. Go over to backstreets.com on BTX - there are plenty of brains to pick over there as well.

AUCTIONS AND MORE FOR GIANTS STADIUM
With only three shows left in Europe, Springsteen and the E Street Band's three-night homecoming stand at Giants Stadium is just ten days away. For the July 27, July 28, and July 31 shows, tickets may still be available through Ticketmaster (300 levels popped up for the last two shows when we checked), but if you want to go a different way...

Expensive tickets to be sure, but they come with quite a bonus... The winning bidder for Max Weinberg's completely restored 1957 Corvette on eBay -- man, is that a beauty! -- will also receive four complimentary tickets and VIP backstage passes for their choice of the three New Jersey shows. Auction ends July 23.
Also on eBay, Jon Landau Management has donated a pair of tickets with E Street Lounge pases to a Giants Stadium show of the winner's choice, with all proceeds benefitting the Skin Cancer Foundation. Tickets are either in the general admission pit or first tier loge section, bidder's choice. Visit http://www.skincancer.org for more information. Auction ends July 21.
As usual, check Charityfolks.com for a number of Springsteen ticket auctions -- right now they have pairs with E Street Lounge passes up on the block for July 27 and July 31, benefitting Farmers Against Hunger and Paterson Habitat for Humanity.

    PLAY BALL!
For one night, the Lakewood BlueClaws become the BruceClaws
Next weekend, Bruce and the E Street Band return to New Jersey with a homecoming stand at Giants Stadium. To help gear up, this coming Friday night, July 25, the BlueClaws -- Lakewood, NJ's Minor League Baseball team -- are celebrating with Bruce Springsteen Night at FirstEnergy Park. And they're going all out, wearing these custom BruceClaws jerseys, created with special permission from Minor League Baseball. After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned to benefit the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County.

Plus: nothing but Bruce playing over the PA all night, a Bruce-signed baseball raffle, Giants Stadium ticket giveaways, and more. General admission/lawn tickets are currently available at the ballpark ticket windows or by calling 732-901-7000 (option 2). For the general admission seating, fans can bring a blanket or a beach towel to spread out on the lawn overlooking the outfield, however no chairs are permitted.

And as an added perk available only to our readers, mention "backstreets" at the time of purchase (phone or in-person only) and receive a voucher for a free hot dog, bag of chips and small soda with each ticket purchased. So go enjoy an evening of The Boss and baseball... and eat for free!

For more information, enlarge the PDF below, and visit http://www.blueclaws.com.

thanks for all the info, it is greatly appreciated!

I'll never pay any attention to the negative folks who don't seem to understand things. I am in love with anything Springsteen at the moment and digging up all this classic old footage that i have never seen before is so much fun!

Bruce and the band seemed to have so much fun in those BITUSA shows, it's ridiculous. Well, Bruce seems to always have fun, it's so much fun to feel the joy coming out of the screen and the speakers.

Not only did Henrik Lundqvist take in a Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band show this week in Stockholm, but before the concert, the Rangers goalie met his musical hero. "It was a great experience!" Henrik said.

    3. Cash only for tickets purchased at the IZOD Center and Giants Stadium Box Offices. No credit cards. ATM's are available onsite.

    4. The IZOD Center Box Office will not be open on Sunday, July 27.

    ENTRY PROCEDURES

    1. There are four gates at Giants Stadium: A, B, C and D. All gates will open at 6:00 PM to allow entry into the stadium. Patrons with tickets located in lower tier (100's) mezzanine (200's) and upper tier (300's) may enter through gates A, B or D.

    2. All patrons with field tickets (reserved sections 1-15 and General Admission) must enter through gate C only. Entry to Giants Stadium with field and GA tickets will be denied at gates A, B and D.

    GENERAL ADMISSION LINE

    1. All General Admission tickets will go into the "pit" on the field at the front of the stage.

    2. 3 PM - On the day of a show, sequentially numbered wristbands will be distributed beginning at 3 PM at gate C. Wristbands will be distributed until 4:30 PM.

    3. 4:30 PM - A starting number will be randomly picked at 4:30 PM, announced and displayed on a placard at gate C. No more wristbands will be distributed once the number is announced.

    4. 4:30 PM - All fans with GA tickets and a wristband should begin lining-up in numerical order beginning with the announced number. The line will be escorted into the GA pit area in front of the stage at approximately 6:00 PM.

    5. If you arrive after the wristbands have been issued, you must line-up behind those with numbered wristbands. Those who arrive after 4:30 PM will receive their wristband for the pit as they go through the turnstile.

    6. One wristband per patron.

    7. A wristband and a General Admission ticket are required to enter the GA area in front of the stage.

    8. The starting number will be drawn randomly at 4:30 PM by a fan. The fan holding the wristband that matches the starting number drawn will be first in line (i.e. if #'s 1 - 100 were issued and number 10 was drawn, the line would start with 10, then 11, 12, 13 through 100 then 1-9). When the starting number is announced, the line will shift accordingly.

    9. The purpose of the random number distribution is to insure that all fans have the same chance of being first in line, eliminating the need to camp out. This policy also helps to insure patron safety and provides for effective crowd control.

    10. Anyone who receives a numbered wristband has a chance to be first in line!

    TICKET RESALE

    1. In accordance with New Jersey state law, the maximum resale value is an additional 20 percent of the face value of the ticket (excluding service charges).

    2. Anyone trying to resell tickets for a greater value is subject to arrest.

    DROP LINE

    1. If fans still wish to wait in a drop line for the possibility of late-release tickets, the drop line will be located at gate D at Giants Stadium.

    2. Sequentially numbered wristbands will be distributed beginning at 3 PM to maintain line order. This is not a random process. Line will be set on a first-come, first-served basis.

    3. There is no guarantee of tickets being released for any night of the concert series.

    4. Tickets, if available, can only be purchased with cash. No credit cards.

    5. One wristband per patron. A wristband only guarantees you a place in line. It does not guarantee you a ticket to purchase.

    ADMISSION POLICIES

    1. Due to heightened security measures at the gates, we strongly urge all guests to arrive at the Stadium as early as possible to avoid entrance delays.

    2. All seating within Giants Stadium is reserved for guests holding valid tickets.

    3. Physically challenged guests requiring assistance (Gates B and D) should contact a Guest Services Representative at the gates or Mike Smith, ADA Manager, in advance, at (201) 935-3900.

    4. To determine where your seat is within a section, remember that the "higher numbered seat is closer to the higher numbered section." So, if you have seat 1 in section 111, you are on the aisle next to section 110 and seats 2, 3, 4, etc. will be going towards section 112. If you have seat 1 in section 222, you are on the aisle next to section 221 and seats 2, 3, 4, etc. will be going towards section 223. For field seating, same rule applies.

    5. Exit/Re-entry into Giants Stadium is not permitted. All guests entering the Stadium are subject to search. Refusal may be grounds to prohibit admission.

PERMITTED ITEMS (all items are subject to inspection)

The following items may be brought into Giants Stadium: plastic bottles of water (one bottle per fan with cap removed), binoculars, small purses and fanny packs, seat cushions and Aramark bags containing just-purchased merchandise.

    SIGNS

All of us have been enjoying the signs and banners with song requests. And we appreciate that the U.S. stadium shows may loom epic in your imaginations, inspiring grand and vibrant art. Please show respect for those in the crowd whose views of the stage may be blocked by your signs by keeping them to a reasonable size and displaying them for only short periods of time.

    PROHIBITED ITEMS

The following items may not be brought into Giants Stadium: cameras (of any type), video cameras, recording devices, large bags, umbrellas, glass bottles, cans, coolers, thermoses, alcoholic beverages, hanging banners, sticks, large signs, noise makers, illegal substances, laser pointers, clothing containing vulgar language, and any item deemed by management to be dangerous or inappropriate.

Prohibited items that are discovered during inspections at Stadium entrances must either be returned to the owner's vehicle or discarded. The Stadium will not provide a storage area for these items. Unlawful items that are discovered during security inspections are subject to being confiscated and the person in possession of those items is subject to arrest. Guests arriving by mass transit must take particular caution not to bring any prohibited items, as no exceptions will be made. Thank you for your continued cooperation and please be assured that your comfort and safety are our primary goals.

    SMOKING POLICY

Smoking is permitted on the spirals and at ground-level plazas at all gates. Smoking is prohibited in all other areas of Giants Stadium.

Exciting changes are in the works at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Meadowlands Xanadu - the ultimate sports, leisure and family entertainment complex in the United States - is under construction on the property surrounding the IZOD Center. the Sports Complex using mass transportation via NJ Transit's existing Pascack Valley line or the Secaucus Transfer Station.

As a result of these continuing improvements, traffic patterns and access to certain parking lots will be affected. Please allow extra time for travel and parking. We appreciate your patience as we make these improvements and thank you for helping us make your visit to the Meadowlands a comfortable, convenient and pleasant one.

    PARKING

    2. Tailgating is permitted in IZOD Center surface parking lots. Tailgating is prohibited in Deck 23 (parking garage next to IZOD Center).

    3. Grills are permitted for tailgating enjoyment, provided guests do so only in the same space occupied by their vehicle. However, their use near buildings or in any area where guests or property may be damaged is strictly prohibited. Please do not discard hot coals near vehicles or in plastic waste receptacles.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION (PORT AUTHORITY, NEW YORK CITY)

    1. The Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan at Eighth Avenue and 41st Street offers load-and-go bus service for all events at the Meadowlands Sports Complex (20-minute ride). There are two bus options - #351 or #164.

    2. Special Event Bus #351 - Service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal will begin operating at 3:00 PM for all concerts. The last bus to the Sports Complex will depart at 8:00 PM. NJ Transit buses will drop off guests at Giants Stadium at the bus loop at gate D.

    3. If you need to arrive at the stadium earlier than 3 PM, use Bus #164 which has all day service to Giants Stadium. This bus will drop off near the walkover bridge.

    4. Return service to New York begins immediately after the event ends (Bus #351) and will continue to operate for up to 30 minutes after the event. Pick-up is at the same location after the event (gate D bus loop). Buses depart on a load-and-go basis.

Youngstown -> Murder Inc. is easily one of the best 1-2 combos ever performed live...

this was my second bruce show....unbelievable. 3 hour concert...i knew it would be special in jersey. "rosalita" is certainly the way to close a springsteen show; i liked that so much better than "american land" as a closer.....

    "jungleland"....just incredible

I've seen Bruce around a dozen times - none of those previous shows comes even remotely close to how amazing last night was.

I don't understand how he has so much energy.

Im embarassed to say....Last night was my forst Bruce Show.
I grew up here in New Jersey and it is kind of a right of passage..

Bruce and the E Street Band dealt all night....Amazed with the Boss's energy and the crowd was just nuts...singing, dancing....what a party....

    And They Played Growin Up.....

Im going back on Thursday...Im hooked Until I see Ed in Newark next week..

unbelievable show. it was my third time seeing the boss and after a pair of 2 hour shows on the first leg I did not expect a marathon of this caliber. I was dying when they played rosalita totally unexpected and amazing

Very good show last night...probably my 10th show and it still blows me away how much energy Bruce has!

I was very happy to hear Jungleland. Growin' Up too!

And the seats Jwmcc and I had were great, Sec. 2A right behind GA on the floor, so pretty much row 15.

Has anyone caught the rewinds live tracks / setlist on XRP ( 101.9 ) after the shows ?

    pretty awesome !

theyll likely be near 90 different songs played on these 3 shows in Giantys Stadium!- At this Rate - who knows for sure what The Boss can come up with , besides a little Magic

    NYPJ1- you shoulda went.
They are only selling using 2/3 of the full stadium- its not near as bad as you assume and you can still easily pull off tailgating without getting there at 7am.
The Band makes use of the big house just fine .They sound incredible.
    :)

Bruce seemed more emotional the first night.
Perhaps he came to the realization that this was the end of an era.
The second night was more relfective on the crowd and the Birthday of Patti and all of the family around and in on the experience.
Max Weinbergs' son playing drums on B2R couldnt be more poignant and symbolic, really.
Last night I was in row 1 ( of the red chairs ) of sec 132 , and it was amazing .
Only the 3rd live performance ever of Held Up Without A Gun , Drive All Night , Out In The Streets opener were all highlights for me from night 2 .

Oh yeah and there was a Giants Stadium puker over near the pit on the floor on Pattis side,..i hear they were pprojectiles. and for night 1 in section 108 a girl peed right there in the alsle / seat ,.... before being escorted out of the Meadowlands.

I heard all of it last night on that station. I'm a big fan of that station, it's much better than Q104 or K-Rock.
