    Dumb question #47

How rowdy is the GA area usually?

the " pit pigs " , as they are known by on the btx boards,.
are often visited by the same people at multiple shows ( wonder how they get in there everytime- either that or they are paying and arm and a leg nightly )

i think this varies from venue to venue, city to city .
of course the ultimate intangible is Bruces energy levels on any given night,
we all know he commands the crowds pretty good no matter what , usually having them eating out of the palm of his hands.

Blood Brothers alt is a totally different song in terms of arrangement. also on that EP:
    High Hopes (cover)
    Murder Inc. (live)
    Secret Garden (with strings)
Without You (not sure if it's a cover... don't think so)

I was finally able to get the Blood Brothers EP.
I bought it from an Amazon seller for $23.00 with shipping.
It was brand new and came packaged with the VHS movie.
The different version of Blood Brothers is amazing.
The other (2) new songs are not my favorites.
The live version of Murder Inc is not as good as the NYC version.
Still worth it just for Blood Brothers alone.

    Certainly won't be any moshing.
If you get into the front "pit" (there are 2 sections for GA), there'll be plenty of room to carve out a spot not too tightly packed and with a good sightline, unless you are at the front of the line, then the Gods of rock implore you to get along the rail at the stage and be squished, but it'll be worth it.
    This weekend we rock Portland

it's cool you got it. it is sort of a rare item nowadays. yeah, that alternate version of Blood Brothers rocks hard. i really dig High Hopes.. other than that it's sort of a wash.

Springsteen, whose "Magic" CD was surprisingly not nominated in any major category, won three Grammys: Best Solo Rock Vocal and Best Rock Song for "Radio Nowhere" and Best Rock Instrumental for "Once Upon a Time in the West" on a tribute CD to movie music legend Ennio Morricone.

Rock Song: "Radio Nowhere," Bruce Springsteen, songwriter (Bruce Springsteen).

Solo Rock Vocal Performance: "Radio Nowhere," Bruce Springsteen.

Rock Instrumental Performance: "Once Upon a Time in The West," Bruce Springsteen.

and none of it was televised, no performances.

only ( besides thwe Foo Fighters )

a bunch of lame crap otherwise,...

    Chris Zelkovich(Toronto Star);

"Move over American Idol and make room for Rockstar Curling, a reality television show that may indeed have a rock-star connection.

NBC confirmed yesterday it has an exclusive option to air a 10-episode sports reality show that will give the winners a shot at competing in the U.S. championships and even going to the 2010 Olympics.

And one aspect that would make this a draw to the button for NBC is a plan to land closet curlers Bruce Springsteen or Jon Bon Jovi as part of the show, assuming the rockers aren't worried what being connected to a sport with brooms might do to their images.

According to sources, the two rock stars are among a group of entertainment types who rent arena time on occasion to pick up brooms instead of guitars.

Organizers are trying to negotiate a deal to get one of them involved, possibly as a host."

Rock stars courted for curling reality show

hey Bath, what's the Grammy total for the Boss up to now?
this was taken off the btx boards.

Bruce could be tied for 5th. The Grammy's website has a search feature but it doesn't have a top to bottom list so based on who you can guess, you can find out. Anyway, based on who I could think of that were rock or pop or soul and some people my parents listend to. So, here's the Top 25 list I could compile:

    1. Quincy Jones - 27
    2. Stevie Wonder - 22
    3. U2 - 22
    4. John Williams, movie score composer - 20
    5. Bruce Springsteen - 18
    6. The Beatles - as a group and as solo artists - 18
    7. Ray Charles - 17
    8. Eric Clapton - 16
    9. Ella Fitzgerald - 13
    10. Michael Jackson - 13
    11. Johnny Cash - 12
    12. Bob Dylan - 10
    13. The Beatles - only while as a group - 10
    14. Count Basie - 9
    15. Frank Sinatra - 9
    16. Sheryl Crow - 9
    17. Paul Simon - solo - 8; 4 more as Simon and Garfunkel
    18. Barbara Streisand - 8
    19. Dolly Parton - 7
    20. Herb Alpert - 6
    21. Madonna - 6
    22. Whitney Houston - 6
    23. Willie Nelson - 6
    24. Billy Joel - 5
    25. Dionne Warwick - 5

Artists barely avoiding a shutout by winning 1 Grammy are: Pete Townshend, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Nirvana, Pink Floyd (and not for Dark Side Of The Moon), & The Clash.

Notables that won 2 Grammys: Dire Straits, Marvin Gaye, Melissa Etheridge, Otis Redding (but only after he died), Rolling Stones, & Tom Petty.

Noticeably devoid of ANY Grammy recognition are: Blondie, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Little Richard, Neil Young, Patti Smith, The Doors, The Kinks, The Who, The Supremes, & The Moody Blues

1973 "KING BISCUIT" SHOW STREAMING ONLINE NOW
A classic Greetings-era E Street Band performance has come to Wolfgang's Vault: the original King Biscuit Flower Hour recording from January 31, 1973. Springsteen and the E Streeters were opening for Biff Rose at NYC's Max's Kansas City, and this is an hour's worth of music -- six songs from the early show ("Mary Queen of Arkansas," "Bishop Danced," "Wild Billy's Circus Story," "Spirit in the Night," "Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?," and "Thundercrack"), and two from the late show ("Saga of the Architect Angel," "Song to the Orphans").

"Bishop Danced" is the only song here that was officially broadcast, and it also turned up on Tracks; though the rest of the material has circulated among collectors, this is a clear upgrade. One of our, um, "audio experts" reports: "I've compared the Wolfgang's Vault version, and it is an improvement over all of the boots I've heard of this show. Previously available recordings sound like really good soundboards; the WV version sounds like a commercial CD with much more high end, without any hiss at all, the vocals crisper and more forward. Unlike a lot of their King Biscuit shows there is no sound overloading and boominess." Listen here.

Also new to WV today, in the latest Crawdaddy!, is Joe Sullivan's "Not Fade Away," tracing the connection from Buddy Holly to Bruce to the Arcade Fire; and from the archives, a 1973 review of Jon Landau's It's Too Late to Stop Now: A Rock and Roll Journal.

THANKS, SUZY, FOR A YABBA DABBA DOO TIME
We're sorry to hear of the recent passing of Suzy Shaw -- longtime Springsteen fan and keyboard player on the 1982 Bruce Springstone parody record. Its picture sleeve alone is a classic, picturing Fred as Bruce and Dino as Clarence, and the songs themselves have had a long life. In fact, the forthcoming book, Baseball's Greatest Hit: The Story of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," celebrating the song's 100th anniversary, will list the Springstone B-side among the top 25 versions of the song ever recorded.

In 1994, Suzy wrote "The Bruce Springstone Story" for Backstreets #48, her own page right out of history. Of meeting Clarence Clemons, she wrote: "I was almost too shy to say anything, but when I finally did, I told him I'd played the organ on the record. He said, 'You bad girl!' with a delightful twinkle in his eye."

In Suzy's honor, here are the A- and B-sides from Bruce Springstone's Live in Bedrock:

BACKSTREETS News updated February 22, 2008

IRAQ VETERAN FINDS INSPIRATION IN "DEVILS"
A new documentary called Body of War focuses on Tomas Young, a veteran of the war in Iraq who was shot and paralyzed his first week serving there. Young himself selected the music for the film's soundtrack, Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran, and as Billboard.com reports, Springsteen's "Devils & Dust" will lead off disc two of this two-CD set. Other artists include Against Me!, Public Enemy, Tom Waits, and John Lennon, along with some of Bruce's Vote for Change tour mates: Bright Eyes, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, and Eddie Vedder, who contributed a new original.

It's a very personal collection of music, as Young previously told Billboard.com: "The songs collected here are the sounds that have helped to inspire me and keep me going as I struggle to find the strength to deal with my new physical limitations while trying to find the energy to fight when many parts of my body and brain are telling me to stop....Each song you hear you're hearing because I found a meaning in it that helped focus a number of emotions and turn them into something that I hope will ultimately be positive."

The CD set will be released on March 18 from Sire, and an LP version on April 15, with all proceeds to benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War.

2 weeks from today Bruce & ESB bring their Magic to Nassau Coliseum .

    cant wait,....

today at rehearsals ( the first for this upcoming leg : ) in Asbury Park :

    DSC00404.jpg

    DSC00402.jpg

    DSC00403.jpg

    from Stan The Man :
Bruce and the band got back together at Asbury Park's Convention Hall this morning for a rehearsal before the start of Thursday's world tour.
The band went through what was a basic setlist from the Fall shows.
Charles Giordano was there, Danny Federici was not.
Bruce even stopped to sign autographs as he left for the dozen fans there.

My thanks to Jeremy, Anne and Tom for filling me in on the songs Bruce played before I arrived.

The music started at 10:15 a.m. and unlike last September, there was no radio playing loudly so we were able to hear the band play.

    Today's setlist:
    1. Radio Nowhere
    2. Night
    3. Lonesome Day
    4. Gypsy Biker
    5. Magic
    6. Reason To Believe
    7. Candy's Room
    8. She's The One
    9. Livin' In The Future
    10. Promised Land
    11. Tunnel of Love
    12. Workin' On the Highway
    13. Devil's Arcade
    14. The Rising
    15. Last To Die
    16. Long Walk Home
    17. Badlands

The music stopped for about 10 minutes before they resumed with:
    18. Girls In Their Summer Clothes
    19. American Land.
    20. Waiting On A Sunny Day

    They finished play at 12:10 p. m.

    Patti Scialfa was there today.
The music was very fluid until the encores, with one song played right after the other, just as it was a concert.

Only about a dozen fans around, most of them veterans of previous Asbury Park rehearsals.
Bruce left at 2:35 p.m. and waved to the fans before he drove down the ramp.
Two fans were waiting at the bottom of the ramp and Bruce stopped to sign for them and then signed for the dozen other fans who had been waiting at the top of the ramp and walked down.
    He personalized every autograph.
Not too many fans looking for autographs today from band members.
Max Weinberg stopped to sign a few as did Charles Giordano.
